Quick question: I notice that on my computer, CPUz reports Vcore lower than what is set in the DS3 bios. Easytune 5 generally reports the voltage to be what I set in the Bios. But if I watch it for a few minutes, occasionally, that voltage will either go up by 0.02 or down by 0.02. What is going on?!!#@

You will notice earlier in this thread that was already done and they were reminded that there is already a separate thread for that. No need to post it here.

That is perfectly normal. You will see it drop more than that when the cpu is heavily utilized.

Sweet! Thanks for the clarification! I thought maybe something screwy was going on!

Normal power fluctuations, most likely. More likely to happen when your CPU usage suddenly goes up and down, I think.

so whats the word on these settings? I'm looking to overclock, never used these type of settings before but maybe they are worth while these days?

CPU Enhanced halt- says cpu will enter C1 state to reduce core clock...etc ??

CPU thermal monitor- says it will throttle down cpu when it reaches a certain threshold, I dont see a setting for this threshold but it sounds like a good one to keep

EIST- used to best manage my cpu for me somehow

what about the smart fan control, right now its set to auto, is that allowing the program that came with the mobo to do it?

Will it work ?

This is exactly what I did, worked fine, no windows reinstall needed.

Well, in my case after changing to AHCI Mode, WinXP during loading displays a beautiful 'blue screen of death' just for a split second. Then the mobo performs a self-reboot... and over again. Had to change back to IDE Mode :-(

You want to disable most things.

I disabled all of the following:
Limit CPUID, C1E, TM2, EIST, Virtualization

I also turned off all of the fan/heat warnings and left the fan speed control on auto.

Yes......i think you need sp2 to get the right drivers for this.

any ideas what might have disabled my IDE drives? When I set the sata to AHCI did I need to change something else too or can I not run sata AHCI with IDE drives on their chain?

F8 beta, the same time I set it to AHCI is right after I had the case open to install a floppy I dont know of any way the floppy would affect it. I did go back and check my IDE cables and they are seated.

I am running F8 bios and have two drives plugged into the Jmicron controller in Raid Zero. My optical drive is working fine, Take a look earlier in this thread for some info about this. I seem to remember something.

I found this on another website.

2) If your HDs are plugged into one of Gigabyte's SATA2 ports, just change the following BIOS setting:

Integrated Peripherals -> Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode -> AHCI mode

In this mode, the IDE port and the SATA ports are detected as standalone devices, Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller and GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller, respectively.

Now you can see/change the transfer mode of the IDE devices, just open the properties of the third Primary IDE Channel.

Here's a question.

I've got two SATA hard drives using the Gigabyte SATA ports, non-raid. I have two optical drives (DVD and CDRW) drives on the IDE cable. I have my BIOS SATA set to AHCI.

I just realized that Windows doesn't recognize/show my CDRW drive. My DVD drive is working fine. However they both show up in the little pre-Windows-boot drive screen along with my two SATA drives.

Anyone know what my problem is here?

changing that setting between AHCI and IDE definetly makes my IDE drives dis or appear, IDE being the one that lets me use my IDE HD and DVD drive.

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode, mean anything to me? I dont see a difference.

I would pass all of these IDE problems to Gary.

I'd suggest asking GB tech support, but that has not proven very useful to me on other things.
I've been thinking......might be worth trying to switch from cable select strapping to a master slave strapping.......or vice versa if you dont know how to do that.......the documentation on the drives will help. I know it is a pain, but I don't really have any other ideas.

Might also be worth going into the bios and letting it auto sense them again and then save it.

Well that was strange.

So I go into the device manager one last time to poke around before I decide to format and try using straight web drivers rather than the CD drivers. It actually was showing up but it was disabled. When you go to enable a device it tells you that it's probably disabled due to a conflict of some sort, and when I tried to enable it it just said it was unable to enable it.

So all I did was go through the properties and turn off "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device." (My DVD drive is attached to my soundcard.) And then it started working. So apparently either having two drives set for audio output or the CDRW not being connected to a soundcard caused the issue.

That seems an odd reason to disable a device. Or at least odd that it would default both to a conflict. Oh well. It's working now so good enough I guess.

They did have major issues with that Creative XFi soundcard. not sure if it is xfi or just xi.
Not sure if they got those fixed.
Hope Gary reads all this. He is our only hope of getting it passed to GB to the right people.

I'm actually using an old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card that I got back in like 99/00. Just a quirk, I suppose.

Does anyone know whether or not DS3 supports DDR2 1066 ?
I'm aware that there is x4 ratio in BIOS that theoretically allows memory to run at 1066 (with FSB running at 266),
but will it work ?

If you had memory that had been proven to overclock that high, or memory that was rated for that speed. Maybe! Google it and see if you can find someone who has done it.
