OK, I ordered that PSU. Hopefully it works for what I need without any problems.

Thanks everyone.

For those interested in RAM compatibility, I put 2GB of this memory on the board and it booted up fine without any increase to voltage in the BIOS even though the RAM is rated for minimum 1.9v - higher than the board's stock 1.8v.

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

e6300
965P-DS3 v2.0

If you do any OC with this RAM (i.e. above 400 MHz), please tell us how high you can go.

Thinking about upgrading my motherboard with the DS3. Is anyone using the Super Talent memory (specifically: 2GB Super Talent T800UX2GC5 ) ???

I have not tried this fix from Gigabyte:
Gigabyte-version2 board FAQ

How do I solve the problem in the following situations?

1. System hangs up when installing Windows Vista.
2. RAID array fails.
3. If the Marvell LAN is disabled in OS, system becomes extremely slow when copying files or even hangs up.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Please make a bootable disk (you may build this disk under Windows XP and select "make this disk bootable" while formatting your floppy).
2. Please unzip the file downloaded from here into the bootable floppy you just made.
3. Use this floppy to boot you system and type "eep.bat" after the DOS prompt.
4. When this utility has done its work, please reboot your system.

Are these boards easily overclockable with the software? Or do you guys mostly just use the BIOS. I don't have any experience overclocking, but I think I am going with this for my next setup. I am waiting for the E4320s to be released so I can get a good price on a 4MB cache chip...

I would be upgrading for a AMD 64 3800+ X2 so I would really need to overclock to see a difference most likely...

I always use the Gigabyte Tune software that comes with my DS3.

I can OC up to 550FSB using the software, but stable only up to 547FSB, which is about 3.83GHz.

If I OC from BIOS, it won't boot past 530FSB.

People say it's best to use BIOS to overclock, but I don't really care If I can OC with the software and get stable , why not? ^__^

547FSB STABLE

547FSB

550FSB just screenie
550FSB 3.85GHZ

CPU-Z validated 3.85ghz 550FSB

I dont run my rig at full steam for daily use.

I'm running 450FSB @ 3.15GHz. 1.26volt on CPU, 1.8volt on memory. All voltage settings on BIOS. 4-4-4-4-8 timing on BIOS. 30c idle, 42 full load.
450FSB, 1.26V CPU, 1.8 VDIMM 4-4-4-4-8

Kinda amazes me tho.. 1.26volt for 450FSB... GREAT BOARD =)

Whats the deal with using IDE and SATA drives? I have my master IDE hard drive that has my OS and it doesn't seem to be compatible with the two other SATA hard drives that I want in. Once windows has booted up, the hard drives don't appear even though the motherboard recognizes them. Am I missing something?

What mode are you running the SATA drives? In the bios, does it say AHCI? Where have you plugged those SATA drives (which SATA ports)?

Not sure what modes the SATA drives are running, but my SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode is set at IDE and not AHCI and my SATA drives are plugged into the SATAII0 and SATAII1 ports.

Hi all

Great thread, makes for very interesting reading

I'm very dissapointed with my DS3. My friend had one and he's been struck by the dreaded DS3 @bios update gone wrong thing so I'm certainly not touching that. I also see that the ICH8 chipset doesn't support NCQ either.

Now my problem. I've got the realtek 1.57 high definition audio drivers installed right now running in 2 channel mode (the jacks are connected correctly before anyone asks). When playing Battlefield 2 I have the sound quality on high and EAX enabled, I start playing the game and the volume goes through the roof, it's completely unplayable. So I turn EAX off and the the volume goes back to it's usual level but the sound is choppy and awful. There's no way I'm turning the settings to mdeium as this defeats the object of having a "gamer's" (that's a laugh) motherboard.

I also have problems listening to people over xfire, very intermitant sound once again. Now I know it's not my settings as I used to run everything just fine on my asus motherbaord. All other sound - mp3's, videos etc are fine

Sorry if this has been mentioned in this thread but if someone could direct me to it if it has I'd appreciate it

Please can you say what drivers, from where and where to install ??

As for F6 if i install 6.1 Systems Configured for AHCI Mode:

1. On the Start menu:
1b. For Windows* XP or later operating systems,
select Control Panel.
2. Open on the 'System' applet (you may first
have to select 'Switch to Classic View').

3. Select the 'Hardware' tab in Windows* XP or Windows*
Server 2003, select the 'Settings' tab in
Windows* 2000
4. Select the 'Device Manager' button
5. Expand the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' entry
6. Right-click on 'Intel(R) 82801GR SATA AHCI Controller'

Is this ok for SATA??

Okay... If you plug your SATA drives into the gigabyte purple ports and you also have IDE devices such as DVD, then you might have problems with Jmicron drivers. The best configuration is to have your SATA drives on purple ports run in AHCI mode or Raid/IDE mode. Then the Jmicron driver will distinguish between IDE and SATA and make your IDE devices IDE and your SATA devices SATA.

The problem: it's hard to do this AFTER you have installed windows. If you're okay with a fresh install of windows XP, do that. Goto driverstation.com OR www.jmicron.com to download JMicron 363x driver. You want a version around 1.17 or 1.18, NOT 1.14. Unzip the drivers and you will find two folders called floppy32 and floppy64. These can be used during windows installation (F6 with XP and nothing with Vista) to allow your windows program to see the hard drives. Then everything will work!

If DON'T want to reinstall windows and still want to try this, here's what you should do... 1. install the Jmicron driver for SATA port, make sure you choose the non-IDE option
2. change the mode in bios to AHCI or RAID/IDE.
3. restart and hopefully windows has recognized drivers and finds your HD correctly.

are SATAII 0 and 1 the purple ones or the yellow ones? The 4 ports with the same color came from intel ICH8 and the 2 ports with purple color came from Jmicron. See my message about setting up the Jmicron ports correctly. Intel ports need NO setup. If you don't need RAID, just plug the SATA drives onto 2 of intel port and you should be fine.

Alrighty I'm really new to this sorta stuff... First off my setup is one IDE HDD that contains my OS and two clean SATA HDDs with no intention of running a RAID setup. My system runs fine with only my IDE drive plugged, but the problems appear when I want to add the other two drives. I did what Yiranhu suggested but whenever I add the drives to the purple or yellow ports using AHCP or RAID/IDE mode, my OS crashes to a BSOD when it boots up. Can anyone offer me advice in order to add my two other drives or give me an explanation of how I can get everything running smoothly if I do a clean install?

Thanks, Chris

If you don't care about RAID, then do this: move your SATA drives to the intel ports. Two of the 4 yellow ones. In Bios, you should set everything to IDE mode only. That should work. Just don't expect RAID/AHCI. (intel might have AHCI option now. but I don't know how that works).

When I move my SATA drives to the intel ports my bios can detect the drives, but my OS either crashes right after it boots up or my OS doesnt recognize the drives. I don't know if there is some unknown confliction or if there is something wrong with the actual drives (that are only a couple months old).

hey I'm making a lot of coasters and I think its got something to do with my DS3. In the burn phase of both CD's and DVD's it will just stop writing, no certain %, it could be anything 30%, 78% whatever. I've had 2 different burners in there, one of which was in my old computer and never had this problem. It seems that browsing the internet or any sort of multitasking greatly increases the chances of it locking up but it has also done it with nothing else going on and sometimes it locks up the entire system and I need to use the reset button.

The burner is sharing the IDE with a hard drive I use for extra storage and my main HD is on the gigabyte sata connection. Should I try moving the HD to the Intel sata port?
