Just looked in there now and I don't see anything that I could recognize as being associated with Realtek.

I'm looking at the "Sound, video and game controllers" directory and I don't see anything associated with Realtek, I went and bought a cheap Sound Blaster and I do see a entry for it "Sound Blaster Audigy"

So, anyone with the DS3 rev3.3, can you look and see what entry you have for the onboard Audio?

The drivers say that they loaded and there was no error!

I currently have 6 entries:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Sound Blaster Audigy
Video Codecs

The Sound Blaster was added when I installed and loaded drivers for it, so I would expect to see the same thing for the Realtek chip, no?

If any1 can stare and compare with theres and tell me what they see I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if they did not load, where did they go and how would I get them to load correctly?

I installed "Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA Driver in English edition)"
from drivers section for GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 3.3) at Gigabyte's site.

Ya, I did the same but I did not get the nor do I have the entry in the devices table for some reason!! If the chip is not recognized I suppose the drivers would not load but I never received any errors.

I do have Audio set to "Auto" in BIOS, I don't see any other entry for audio in the BIOS.

Maybe you can try to manually uninstall all devices from
sound, video and game controllers category, restart your
computer and prevent Windows from installing default drivers.
Then install these drivers from Gigabyte's site and see what happens.

P.S. in BIOS, audio should be set to auto, it's like that on my ds3 and everything works fine.

I'm sorry, i missed the "Sound Blaster Audigy" part of your message.
Under my knowledge you can't have two sound cards operating at the same time so
integrated audio is probably disabled. If you want to use your Audigy card you should install just drivers which came with that card, not the ones for the integrated realtek audio.

Na, the SB Audigy card I bought yesterday and installed just so as to have some audio.

So, if I uninstall all the drivers under the Sound/video and game controllers and try reloading the Realtek drivers from Gigabyte site you think that will do it?

Is there a way for me to check if the OS can see the Realtek chip b4 I try that?

And yes, I normally would have the Audio in BIOS set to "Auto".

I can use some help on my build.

My components are:
Gigabyte DS3 version 3.3
E4300 (with retail HSF)
2x1GB Ballistix DDR2 PC-6400
SATA HDs
7600GT video card

I put the whole thing together (I have a ground strap on my wrist and attached to the case) and pushed the power button. The HSF, the case fan, and the power LED all turn on, but there is no video, no POST as far as I can tell and no beep codes. I tried reseating different components and still nothing.

I thought maybe I was shorting the MB on the case, so I took the MB out of the case and placed it on top of the static bag. Then I took everything off except for the CPU/HSF, the PC speaker connector and the power connector. I hit the power again and the HSF starts to spin, but again, I get no beep code. I thought maybe the speaker wasn't working on my new case, but when I remove the speaker connector while the power is on, I can hear it crackling.

Gigabyte tech support says that if there's no beep, it's probably the CPU. They tell me to try another CPU.

Luckily, my brother wants to build the same PC, so I had him go get the same CPU and MB from Microcenter. This time, I just took his brand new MB and put his brand new CPU/HSF on. I put the motherboard on top of the static bag again, and connected the speaker (a different speaker on a different case) and power connectors. Same thing happens with this one. The HSF starts up, but no beep codes.

I'm about ready to dump my DS3 and pay the restocking fee and get an ASUS. I'm going to tell my brother to do the same.

Any last words on things I can try before returning my Gigabyte?!?

If you want to use Realtek integrated audio, I would suggest that you
completely remove the sound blaster audigy from your computer (from PCI slot) and uninstall it from device manager
with everything else which is located under the Sound/video and game controllers tree.
Then install realtek drivers from gigabyte's site.

As far as visibility od realtek chip in OS is concerned, here is a screenshot:

But I can't say for certain that it will see realtek chip if drivers are not installed,
I would bet yes, but I'm not entirely certain.

Yeah you definitely need to choose which sound card you want. The onboard or SB. Obviously if you want the SB sound card installed, you need to disable the onboard audio and/or uninstall drivers first.

Hi all ! I am preparing to do a new build with a DS3, but am still not completely sure that I would get it over a 650i board. My main concerns revolve around RAID controller issues with the 965's vs. less-than-stellar overclocking of the 650i boards. Slight edge to the P965 at the moment, but 650i may be a better option for the future considering RAID and SLI

Goals of this build as follows:

Now: Single hard drive under XP Pro 32-bit (No RAID) with 2 gig ram, e4400, and 8800GTS, OC to 3.3 GHz--gaming(BF2, HL2, Oblivion) and photo/video editing.

Once Vista gets better drivers and patches (6 mos.?), I will then do a Vista Premium install, possible add another hard drive for RAID and add 2 gig of ram (total of 4 gig)

Let me know what you think of my selected hardware and point out any problems you see with my immediate build plans as well as my future changes down the road with the Vista install. My last build was an Athlon XP-M OC'd to 2.4GHz on an Abit AN7--it has been very good to me and will be my net-surfer while I do the new build.

Hello all!

I just recieved this board on friday and installed everything without a hiccup (specs are in my profile sig) This if my first intel build since the Pentium 2, and I was writing this to see if someone could point me in a direction of how to overclock it. I did a few searches, but most of the overclocking things that have came up are generic based overclocks, and not specifically for our Motherboard. If there was a guide somewhere that someone knew about, or even explain it on here, it would be much appreciated. here are a few specs about my specific setup:

The G. Skill ram I have runs at 2.0-2.1v at 800 speed SPD is 4-4-4-12
The processor stock core voltage is 1.35
The CPU idles between 15-20C (good airflow in my gigabyte 3dAurora Case)

I have exactly the same problem with 1manarmy on my GA-965P-S3 board. My (conservative and fully memtest/orthos tested) overclocking settings are lost most of the time when I boot fresh.

I really don't understand. Is there any BIOS version that doesn't have this issue?

I bought this board based on the rave reviews and overclocking ability. How I wish now I would have just went to Fry's and bought the E6600 with the ECS mb for $229. Here are some of the troubles I am having.

1. I am also having trouble with the bios holding overclock setting. Defaults to speeds below normal. One nice feature in the bios is the ability to save setting and recall them, which helps to quickly get bios back to where you want. But the trouble is still frustrating.

2. With ACPI set to S3 in bios, windows will go to sleep, but not come back. If/when it does, I lose bios settings as well. Many times I have to clear cmos to get back to bios.

3. I have a 500gb sata 2 drive that shows up as multi word dma mode 2 in windows. Samsung sata dvd drive also show up as multi word dma 2I have tried xp pro, vista ultimate, loaded raid drivers when installing xp and vista, ahci on & off in bios, orange and purple ports, but I can't seem to get windows to recognize the drive correctly. My old athlon nforce4 chipset at least sees drive as sata 2 w/ ncq. Any ideas what would be causing this. If I can just get this to work, I would just shut it down and not worry about sleep mode (even though I would like to use it).

glad to hear you are having success with your DS3. I wish I could say the same for myself as I am now in the process of RMA and I will try the new ASUS P5K Deluxe (p35) MOBO.

I had issues with the DS3 holding my 9 X 340 OC. It was fine for a couple of days then it started revert back to stock speeds. I followed the HardForum OC guide also.

Sorry to hear about your experiences.
This mobo so far has been rock solid. Never a burp. Always holds OC settings. I did flash to F11 from the stock F10. OC'd to 420 but decided to drop back to 333fsb for a 25% increase but could drop Vc down to 1.15V for very cool running. Since I like cool and quiet machines, I decided to leave it at this 2.66ghz speed.

I have built many many PCs over the years, mainly using the two A--- brands, with some Fox and Bios and few others. So, this is only my second Gigabyte mobo. First one was just last month...945P-S3. It didn't OC nearly as well but it was only a $75 mobo. Thanks to this thread and other readings, I decided to try the famous DS3 Rev 3.3. I think I like these Gigabytes. At $114 from Mwave it was a pretty good deal. However, the $99 Rev 1.3 may work for others.

There has certainly been alot of discussion about people having DS3 troubles hodling their OC settings. I don't know the answer. Mine has been fine. I just wish everyone had as good as experience as I have had with my DS3.

is anyone with more than 2GB able to overclock over 3.0Ghz with ver 3.3 F11 bios? i've tried an e4300 (both 7x and 8x) and e6300 and I can't even boot past 3Ghz. i tried 4x1GB and 2x2GB. there is something happening at around 3.0 Ghz. if i use any two of the 1GB modules the DS3 boots and starts memtest at 3.4Ghz. kind of sucks, since i want to go to 8GB.

I've had the same problem as 1manarmy and others. Set the machine up and did a modest OC to 300 it ran fine for a week then reverted to stock speed and I couldn't get any OC going.

I've updated to F11 and still no change. However when fiddling with the BIOS yesterday, changed the speed, changed the PCIe speed, changed the PCIe voltage, nothing,until finally I decided to set it to automatic voltage control and it's now holding it's OC (at 320 atm) through reboots.

So I'm presuming that the issue is with the system not getting sufficient voltage at my manual settings to run properly. The mobo seems to reset itself if it doesn't like the bios settings. Now I haven't really had time to tweak my memory settings and I'm just running in auto with the multiplier set to 2.33, so there may be something happening here too.

Vcore looked to be at 1.35 but I wasn't able to see the other voltages. Any suggestions on how to check the other voltages from windows (I'm using Vista). (I'm using CPU-z and Speedfan for OC and temp reading) Core temps seemed ok idled in the high thirties and mid forties to low fifties under load.

I think I fixed the problem.

I set the multiplier to 6x (for my 4300) and the system boots and reboots without problems.

Performance is identical to what I get when the multiplier is set to the highest value (9x).

1manarmy (and everyone else who has this problem), if you haven't returned the board yet, could you please test this?

there are people having similar 'cold boot' fsb resets and it's stated it's due to some OC setting not being stable. I had it once, tweaked a few settings in my bios and haven't had it since - I think I raised a few voltages a little here and there

Now my question this time is there any truth to the post at the top of this page:

I have found my max RAM frequence to be 430 (860) and run a E6300 at 7 multi (so 7*430) ... any higher and I get memtest86 errors. However in this post the guy found :

how can the pci-e frequency increase the max memory speed ?? Has anyone tested this on their own RAM ?
