even though its got some bad reviews i guess most of the people happy with this board.

Are the 590's going to remove the multiplier?

I had a problem with 333 FSB with my patriot ram and 320 worked fine, 300 worked fine but 333 and 340 I couldn't get to work no matter what. So thought it may be just a problem running at those freq. Tried 360fsb, it worked just fine. If you are having a problem with a certain freq you might want to try skipping over that freq range and trying something a good bit higher.

What's the highest selectable MCH voltage for DS3?
Any links to a volt mod?
I've read MCH voltage is reall stopper for high FSB.

I am about fed up with this motherboard. I have a 6300 running at 7 x 380 for 2,660 mhz. The machine is dual prime95 stable overnight (10 hours), either with small FFTs (stress cpu) or large FFTs (stress memory). The only voltage increase was for the cpu (from 1.325 to 1.365 volts). I am using the Ninja heat sink, and everything is cool. The problems are with booting and the PCIe video card. I have tried both a Radeon X550 and a Radeon X700pro with the same results. On a cold start, most of the time it will recognize the video card. Sometimes it will boot up with the PCIe in x1 mode (instead of x16). But on a warm boot (any kind of restart), the odds are about 5 to 1 that it will not start the video card. The computer seems to be booting up (judging by the IDE activity light), but the video card never turns on the monitor.

What I have to do is turn off the computer for at least 10 full seconds, and then turn it back on. Then the video card will be initiated (at least most of the time, not always). Is anyone else seeing this behavior, or should I initiate an RMA?

Yep I was experiencing this same issue, and it's really weird since for all intents and purposes, the system is stable. But for some reason the board thinks otherwise. I solved my issue by upping my fsb voltage (MCH) by +0.1v. Haven't had any of the booting issues since then. I'm stable at 385x8 on an E6400 now with vcore at 1.33v. The board is definitely finicky, but with some patience these overclocks are insane.

I had the same problem with my Ati X1900XTX. I set the PCIE frequency to 105MHz and that fixed it.

I have a DS3 with an e6300 and Patriot DDR667 memory.

So far I have not been able to get past 2.33 ghz on the cpu (@39C with Stock fan) due to what seems the memory's inability to go past 667mhz at all. (7x333 FSB with 2.0 memory multiplier).

Is there something I have missed (I did mildly increase memory voltage but that did not help) to enable higher FSB settings without increasing the memory bus speed or should I have bought either faster DDR2 or a higher multiplying Conroe?

Also I heard the Asus P5B now has unlocking ability of the cpu multiplier and also heard that Gigabyte may have this feature too (either now or in a future BIOS). My F4 BIOS allows me to pick 6x or 7x, is that normal or does this mean it is already unlocked but in the down direction only?

Thanks!

Hey I had the same problem. What I did was set vdimm, vMCH, vFSB to +0.1V to start. I also set vcore at 1.325 for my 6300. I found out that DS3 was adjusting the voltages that were set to auto based on overclocking setting. Once I set my own voltages I was off to the races. You should be able to get that memory to 800 or better. I also set my memory timing also. Ctrl F1 on main bios screen unlocks hidden menu. Also remember to disable any thing that you are not using including legacy USB. Hope this helps.

I'm old school so if it ain't broken, don't fix it, but would it be worth updating to F5 from F3?

i'm using gskill 6400 with the black heatspreader and i'm having issues getting this ram to overclock (even the slightest bit)... has anyone had much experience w/ this ram on the ds-3 mobo? can i get a screenshot of all the values you plug in for in the Cntrl+F1 menu for for the ram?

also, i've heard that users are finding out that this ram is not ideal for this board. i'm considering an RMA... would i be better of going w/ crucial ballistix?

My stuff comes in tomorrow, E6300 with this mobo, and I'm just getting ready and doing research.
I know that the NB runs hot. I'm wondering what the limit on it's temp should be before I bite the bullet and either glue an 80mm fan to it, or just buy an aftermarket fan for it.

in hindsight I would have just picked up one of these before I even built my box:
forcetake chip force cooler

My northbridge seems to be running around 45C just running Boinc in the background. Not sure what it peaks at. But every bit of cooling helps I'm sure.

So now I've ordered the cooler and have to take things apart again to get under the board :\

edit: clearance may be an issue with some CPU coolers but I've seen snaps of it fitting in conjunction with the DS3 and a Zalman 9500 so I'm not too worried in my situation.

I know ya'll are hip-deep in OC'ing, but I was wondering if anyone else was having stability or other issues due to the Microsoft high-definition audio driver? I've installed WinXP twice, and both times everything runs great until I install that blasted driver. Boot times increase by about 10 fold (no joke), the system stalls or hangs at random times, I get blue screens at shut down. All kinds of crazy crap, and the one and only single change that I've made in both cases was installing that driver.

Am I all alone here? Prolly means I have a bad audio chip, huh...

For anybody who wants to cool their NB w/o a lot of money, zip tie a 60mm fan to the left side of the NB heatsink and have the air towards the CPU. Here's what it looks like on my mobo.

I'm using the HDA driver from Realtek for ALC883. Got no problem w/ it. The audio control panel will read Gigabyte.

If you haven't flashed to the latest BIOS, do so. Gigabyte has just released the official F5 BIOS on their site.

The NB can be cooled the cpu cooler if you have say a Blue Orb II. This is a large cooler with a 12cm fan which blows air down onto the the cpu and the surrounding components, eg NB and RAM. I have not tested the temps but it seems reasonable that the air flow does help cool them. My case panel has a grill just by it.

ok I Am not a noob when it comes to building but I am having the worst trouble with this board. I did just a bench test (meaning board, cpu, ram and without ram and vid card) And I get a 2 second fan spin then nothing then it goes back on like a constant reboot. I am using C2D 6400, 5400 OCZ Gold's, and 7900gtx for the test setup. I have already done rma and nothing was fixed. Any one have any suggestions??? I am at the end with this POS and am about to break it so and advice may save its life

I installed a Jing Ting Forcetake Chip Force Chipset Cooler - Rev 2 this evening on my Gigabyte DS3. It was a fairly interesting install, a little tricky.
http://epowerhousepc.com/forcetake-chip-force-chipset-cooler-p-746.html

Here is the Forcetake next to the stock heatsink on the right:
http://home.comcast.net/~schroet/1.jpg

I was a little concerned whether it would fit next to the Zalman 9500 but managed to find a good angle finally:

http://home.comcast.net/~schroet/2.jpg

http://home.comcast.net/~schroet/3.jpg

And finally with the MSI Radeon X1900XT installed:

http://home.comcast.net/~schroet/4.jpg

It seems to be helping the temp of the northbridge by about 2-5C, not a whole lot but it sure looks pretty. I would rate the difficulty of installation around 7/10, nothing fancy but requiring some dexterity. Could have been easier if the Zalman was out of the way but I didn't feel like taking it back off. The Forcetake heatpipe was actually bent tighter than 90% out of the box and I had to widen it back up a little with some gentle pressure.

So I currently have this E6600 running stability tests at an FSB of 375, core speeds of 3375mhz at 1.344v and 2gb of Corsair XMS 6400C4 running at 938mhz, 5-5-5-15 at 2v. CPU temps around 64C while Orthos is cranking, and the northbridge is now around 55-58.

I should mention that I had to sacrifice the use of my F_AUDIO header as the pipe/sink sits right above it by the audio connectors.

Rashean700 do you have a fan plugged into the SYS_FAN header by the floppy connector? I decided to put the fan sensor wire from my power supply on there. I have seen boards (not specifically this one though) not want to stay on if there isn't a good signal from a chassis fan.

Can you confirm your video card is healthy in another system, or put a known good vid card in this board just to test it out?

Finally got all the parts in for my C2D box last night.

Gigabyte DS3
E6400
2G Corsair XMS 6400
Zalman 9500

I installed windows and ran some benchmarks before I OC'd and at stock speeds, the E6400 was about the same speed as my X2 3800 setup @ 2.5Ghz O.O

OC'd now, currently at:

3.2Ghz @ stock voltage (1.325v)

CPU Clock Ratio: 8X
CPU Host Frequency: 400
PCI Express Freq: Auto
CIA2: Disabled
System Memory Multi: 2.00
CAS Latency time: 5
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay: 5
DRAM RAS# Precharge: 5
Precharge delay (tRAS): 12
ACT to ACT Delay: AUTO
Rank Write to Read Delay: AUTO
Write to Precharge Delay: AUTO
Refresh to ACT Delay: 0
Read to Prechage Delay: AUTO
Memory performance enhance: FAST
DIMM OverVoltage Control: +0.2v
PCI-E OverVoltage Control: NORMAL
FSB OverVoltage Control: NORMAL
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control: NORMAL
CPU Voltage Control: 1.325
Robust Graphics Booster: AUTO

I have to say I'm impressed. Especially since I haven't had an Intel box since the BP6 days. I also had no idea how underfed the X1900XT was until now

Has anyone used the Scythe Infinity with this board? Are there any compatibility issues?
