going to go try some cheap ddr2 to flash the bios to F7...luckily i have a friend close who has cheap ddr...otherwise i'd be SOL!

I got some cheap ddr2, it booted, at least I know the mobo isnt bad.

SO i set the vdimm voltages to +.3 volts and no dice, tried everything from +.0 to +.4 and got nothing with my OCZ ram...wow, this is making me hate OCZ...way to drop the ball on this one!

Anyone have a damn PATA IDE controller working with a DVD-Burner? As I posted earlier I can't get it to work right with two different ones. IDE is damn spotty on this board, it won't even boot with my IDE HDs! It just keeps rebooting!

I have a NEC-3550A on a Promise Ultra100tx2 and the best burn I can do is 2x. Anyone have any success with SATA-IDE adapters?

My system doesn't start with this card.

One thing I found out the hard way is that the PCI slots are rev 2.3, and most rev 2.2/2.1 cards WILL NOT WORK. You might check to see what rev version your PCI card is. Ah, just checked it. Your card is a rev 2.2...sorry you are probably out of luck with this board.

Yeah, I've got two DVD burners hooked up to mine and both work fine... There is an update through windows update that causes them stop being recognized, maybe look back through the thread to find it.

I can only use 1 pata->sata converter at a time but man it kicks ass.

No. It is not a joke. I'm not going to use the system for game playing and the voodoo 3 has a very good dac for 2d - besides I already have it in my current system.

Could you guys point me to the PATA to SATA converters you're using? I'd like to use 2 DVD-Roms, but only 1 of the 2 drives I have is a burner, so just being able to use my NEC 3550a at 16x will be fine with me. Burning at 2x sucks.

I already wasted $15 on a PCI PATA controller.

My 6300 is running solid at 2344. Memory at 1005.

I've upped volts a little for the memory. Wish I had bought a 6400 or better memory, Oh well! Faster then an FX at this speed.

Having a problem with my optical drive. My old drive worked fine this new one sucks!

I actually tried to run one of those cards on the board I bought. I only plan to use the system for Folding at Home initially and maybe upgrade the video to a X1900 series card to run the GPU Folding client when they get the bugs worked out. I was not able to run any PCI cards on this board.

It's got rev 2.3 PCI slots, so the older PCI cards won't work. Sorry.

Does anyone use the Memory dividers?

I'm Running 1:1

Tried using the first divider and it crashes the computer. Do you have to run 1:1?

Memory up to like 1000mhz now

wow i didnt even know we had a DS3 thread here.
i spend all my time with the SD3 thread over at XS.. guess i should come here and help out a bit too huh ?

Xellos, please list for me your hardware, i want to make sure i have a handle on what your using.

certain ram will not work in this board becasue the baord only boots at 1.8~1.9v default vram. if your ram is not rated to boot at that low of voltage you will have this issue.
certain OCZ, and gskill ram do this, and i believe some corsair and mushkin too.

the ram in my sig works fine the ram uses an SPD to tel it to be able to boot at a lower voltage.
not all ram(s) do this. the gskill 6400 ZX's are one of them. you cant buy them anymore, as i do believe gskill yanked them becuase of compatability issues.

if your overclocking at all then dont. set the bios to defualts and if it boots then you know you are not giving the ram enough voltage or the cpu enough voltage.

this board is very picky about ram, psu and cpu. if you dont have a good psu thent he board is going to remind you of it all the time.

also on Oct 13th, the day after the F7 release, gigabyte replaced the F7 with a Rev 2 of the bios, its now dated 10/13/06 they replaced the bios with a new one that implemented a fix for the X-Fi. but then again they said they fixed the X-Fi long ago ..
so believe what you want.

i dont advice flashing with the updated one as i did and i can no longer boot at high FSB like i used to. atleast on a 8x or 7x multi.
i was stable and bootable at 463 x 8 but i can only do 450 x 8 now. i dont know why or what they changed but they did something, and its not reacting well to my system.

Also the Micron D9 fix is in the work, word from Taiwan is that they have the D9 fix in place but they are doing the final tweaks on it so that now us Micron D9GMH and D9GKX owners can finally use our ram at nice high ram speeds. ie 100% stable at 950mhz and above.
since many of you probably already know the D9 based ram can not run over 950mhz stable. the D9GMH can do a little more than the GKX but that is only cuz the GMH is a different latency ram.

gskill is also working on a new SPD file for the ram that will help also, but this isnt something that everyone can do, its something only for themore technically advanced.

anywho...

Has anyone come up with a comprehensive list on stable PC6400 for this board? I'm looking to order but I can't get consistent answers on memory compatibilty and with prices what they are it's going to cost a premium for peace of mind and extra performance&quality I don't need.

Basically I'm looking for a 2X1024 pair of modules rated at PC6400. I can live with 5-5-5 timings. There's a small chance I'll overclock the memory, but if I do my target speed would, at most, only be around 850. I plan to leave the timings alone.

I don't have access to a cheap 1.8v stick of DDR2. I'm actually looking at the S3 instead of the DS3. Is it safe to assume at this point that newly shipped S3's have the new bios that resolves the 1.8v issue?

What's the latest on OCZ PC6400 sticks? Can I expect to boot, flash to newest bios version, and then use OCZ in the manner stated above?

Specifically can anyone confirm compatablity (and/or very mild overclocking) with the following modules?

OCZ OCZ2G8002GK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Gold Gamer eXtreme XTC
OCZ OCZ28002048ELDCGE-K 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Enhanced Latency Gold

GeIL GX22GB6400DC 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 DDR 2 Series Dual Channel
GeIL GX22GB6400DCK 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400 DDR 2 Dual Channel Memory
(same as Geil above but with a K in the product line... not sure what
the difference is)

Any suggestions for 2gig PC6400 memory is appreicated even at 5-5-5 timings. I'd really like to get this baby ordered and running.

henderson dont bother with OCZ its overpriced and underperforming.

grab some of the gskill 6400 lower priced stuff. i believe the NR is one model
if your not going to overclock the just grab some generic stuff.

As I posted in the other thread, the low priced Patriot DDR2 works just fine and is fast. Works at 4-4-4-12.

Okay,
Thought I had my problem solved. But still issues. Bios ver F7. When burning 1 dvd at a time no issues, burns at rated speed. When trying to burn 2 dvd's at a time, both burners won't burn over 2x. System hardware information show 3 primary HDD controller and 3 secondary HDD controllers.
System info.
E6300
2x1GB Patriot DDR667
1-350GB Sata2 HDD
2-16X dual layer burners.

Anybody with any insight on how to get both burners working at rated speed would be appreciated. Otherwise I'll be burning one disk at a time.

Thanks

Burning one disc? How about burning none?

Come on guys, someone running NEC-3500A on their setups please tell me what controller boards or SATA to IDE converters they're using?

What exactly is a pwm fan and where do you find them ? I tried searching newegg and they didn't seem to have them.

Are both (non cpu) fan headers on this motherboard pwm or just one ?

what do you mean the 3500 is a IDE drive not a SATA so why do you want a SATA to IDE converter ?

listen go to ebay and get a usb external enclosure that is for CDROM's.
i have 2x 3550a's. both are IDE. one i have IN my dektop the other i use in an external enclosure on my laptop.

how hard is it.. go buy a cdrom external enclosure.

now if your talking IDE to SATA then your in for some trouble very few IDE to SATA converters actually work on these boards. and i wouldnt use one.
