Been out of the loop here for a few weeks but I'm trying to keep tabs on stuff as I'm compiling a shopping list . Am I correct in assuming that the previous 2.1v DDR2 problems are now solved by the F4 BIOS? What are the odds of a board I buy now (or within the next few weeks) having at least this BIOS preloaded? Any issues I should bear in mind with potential Corsair DDR2 TwinX XMS 512*2 set, 5-5-5-15? Any suggestions or thoughts? I'm also planning on the Zalman 9500 flower, and the E6300.

DS3 should be getting it's F8 bios today, unless it's delayed. It's supposed to fix a lot of the porblems with it, such as D9.

As for me I am just hoping it allows me to run faster than 430fsb. My ram is running at stock voltage with good timings, undervoltage on my cpu, but can't push it any farther as my FSB is holding me back.

How would I know if my RAM has D9 chips? Is it only micron-based memory that uses the D9 chips? What exactly is the incompatibility between them and the DS3?

Anyone heard if the Samsung Modules work okay with the DS3 combo? I've found samsung modules to be high quality in the past.

I recently picked up this mother board and it is not behaving nicely. I am putting in a e6400, 7900GT KO and 500W ThermalTake PSU with this RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145566

Right now it will start the case fans and then stop, start again with everything else kicking in and then stops for good. If I short the power pins on the motherboard to start it I get a loop of the everything just starting to kick in when it stops. It doesn't POST so I ordered some cheap 1.8v RAM to throw in and see if this is the cause of my problems but any insight would be appreciated.

Oh and things I have already tried are reseating everything, trying with just one or the other stick in different slots. No memory at all, no GPU. I am going to test my PSU in another system to make sure that it is working correctly soon.

Thanks

I had the exact same problem and it ended up being the PSU. It would start to spin up, then die, then start again and so on.

I replaced my 480w Enermax with a 550 Antec NeoHE and it's run great ever since.

I just tested my PSU on my other system and it worked fine and showed stable rails, so I am leaning away from it being the PSU right now. I will keep it in mind though. Thanks LikeLinus.

I fixed the problem I had with my set up. Not entirely sure what made it come around. The last thing I had been doing was manually shorting the power pins. After I plugged back in my case power switch a little later I decided to give it another go. It booted up with one RAM stick in and I was able to get everything working.

The DS3 Micron D9 issues have been isolated to a series of sub-timings in the BIOS and a resistor on the board. Changing out this resistor and utilizing the latest beta BIOS resulted in a very stable 7x510FSB with an X6800 and 7x525FSB with a good E6300. Gigabyte will release a final BIOS on or around the 16th of this month that should result in 480~490FSB capability with the majority of D9 modules, anything higher will require the resistor change. Hopefully I can get a "how to" posted on it before I leave tomorrow (it will void your warranty, repeat it will void your warranty), if not it will be on Friday. I will have more details later in the week.

Thanks Gary for staying on this problem and working hard with Gigabyte to isolate and resolve. I am looking forward to the "how-to" and the new BIOS. I'm running a DS3 with some high-end Team D9 memory that will hit 500+ FSB easy but have been limited to 440 FSB since I got it. The 440 FSB is rock solid with my Team at 2.2V 4-4-3-9, and I am happy with everything else on the board, but I really want to get my E6300 up to 3500+ with 500+ FSB.

Hopefully the board mod for the resistor will not be too difficult for everyone. If its just a removal and jumper it that should be pretty easy. But if its a change in value that requires soldering in another SMD resistor or wires to an adjustable pot that would be a fair bit trickier. With any luck the resistor is in an easy location on the board to work the mod.

For those of you that are not expert soldering and working with SMD don't worry. I am sure there will be plenty of people that are (maybe here on the AT forums) that will offer to mod your board for a nominal fee, if you don't mind the warranty voidance.

It does not sound like this resistor change was a design flaw that Gigabyte should be responsible for fixing since the board works fine with D9 memory up to 440-450 FSB, well over 50% overclock, as is. I will be more than happy with Gigabyte and my DS3 purchase if the new Bios finally fixes the D9 sub-timings problem, and I will applaud them for listening to Gary and their customers in fixing it.

I wrote an earlier thread asking about this issue I have found on my new PC. the people seemed to say that it was normal for the P965 Gigabyte boards to initially power on and then go off for 1 second and then power on again and load the OS. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is it in fact normal?

I have found that when I keep the power plugged in at the mains, that the computer will come on right away when hitting on the on button, but when taken out of the mains it will go through the on off on process. Maybe its checking the power connectivity or something?

Please share.
If U know how to fix it plz Help
Thank U very much

PS. before that it's normally, after i updated BIOS to version F7 by @BIOS program.it be like that.

afaik its not checking connectivity but doin a "bios test-initialising" (thats what one of the gigaybyte mods wrote in the german http://forum.gigabyte.de). Guess its a bios test after the board was disconnected from power completely. If ur having the on/off problem more often then it might be due to Memory Settings, try to play around with the settings to fix it. And 3rd reason may be IDE cables...at least one guy fixed his problem by changing them. Hope this helps a bit..

What are the specs of the system you tested the PSU with? My PSU wasn't bad, it just didn't have enough juice to power the system. Just something to consider.

GL finding the problem.

sry, i dont even have this board, this info is just what i read in other forums. and from what i read the on/off-problem is well known though the solutions may vary. maybe someone else here can guide u to fix the problem. iam pretty sure someone else here must have stumpled over it too. if not u can still RMA it, as far as i know u need to send the lot number to the gigabyte service which will give u a RMA number and u can eventually send them the probably defective board. good luck...

Might be a noob question, but does anyone know how I can do a quick boot with this mobo? I don't really want to see my devices IRQ numbers when booting up.

yeah, mines about 1-2 seconds, but I'd rather not even see them. It's kinda an eyesore to me.

Which bios are you using? The F7 bios has a flash screen of the Gigabyte logo if enabled. I run F6 so I don't know how long the logo stay on screen. It may or may not be long enough to prevent the IRQ numbers from showing.
