I updated my BIOS to F8 just last night and it fixed an issue I was having where I would lose my FSB OC whenever I would attempt to reboot my machine. Instead of rebooting, the machine would just hang and I would have to power off manually, and when I powered back on my CPU speed would be back to 266x7. I've rebooted about 8 times already with an OC, and each time the machine has rebooted gracefully. I hope this helps anyone with a similar issue.

My timings are 5-5-5-12, using 800MHz Corsair DDR2-6400. My ratio is 1:1 and the memory is currently at 700MHz with a 350MHz FSB. At the same settings under the F7 BIOS, I couldn't reboot my PC without it hanging after Windows shutdown, after that I would need to power it down manually. I assume it wasn't a CPU OC problem because I ran hours upon hours of Prime95 tests with no errors...but I didn't want to push my OC any further than 350 without bypassing that hurdle first. I have no clue what could have been causing it...

That sounds like the problem a lot of people described but it was usually at a much hight FSB speed. What cpu is it that you have?

This board has been driving my friend and I nuts all day.

His optical drive is stuck in PIO mode, and yet none of the solutions we've tried throughout this thread have worked.

He's currently running his one hard drive(raptor, sata1) on the ICH8's SATA, set it to IDE mode in the BIOS, and had to do the small trick of installing the correct Jmicron driver to get his DVD drive to show up. But yet it still remains in PIO after that.

Did I overlook something critical that was pointed out in this thread?

Ok...

Make sure you download THIS F8 BIOS (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Moth...ProductID=2314&ProductName=GA-965P-DS3
)...and the @BIOS at gigabyte.com.tw which is 1.01D, gigabyte-usa.com has @ BIOS 1.01B. Last night I swapped the P5B-E back out for the DS3, grabbed the 1.01D @BIOS and F8 official off the website. Flashed, reset CMOS (yes, necessary) and I'm at 515 rock stable and so far no cold boot issues. MadMikeSS flashed with the beta bingo13 had and his OC was jacked up... with this BIOS off their site he can OC the same. Something is not the same between the beta F8 and this final one on their site which seems to so far work flawlessly for me. If you try this - make sure to use the right files!!

Have a nice holiday everyone!!

Actually, the best procedure would be: reset CMOS (with power cord unplugged), THEN flash the bios. In other words: don't flash the bios when overclocked, voltages other than default, etc.

Okay. I just tried this new F8 official bios posted on the GB's Taiwan website. I hate to swear but it ****ing pissed me off. The computer booted after flashing resetting and all that jazz. With F7 I was able to reach 2.8 GHz @ 1.23 volts (probably lower if I wanted) (all other voltages normal) on 6300. Now, I can't get to 400 MHz at all even at 1.325 volts! What is going on? Everything is set the same way as before. I was able to reach 380 MHz on FSB before this thing crapped out.

I know it can't be the RAM becuase it's DDR2 800 running at less than 800 MHz. I'm guessing it might be FSB voltage or something. But why would F7 work but not F8? I don't really want to raise voltage unless I have to.

Rig spec:
DS3 F7 - 2.8GHz 6300 C2D
2 GB GSkills 800 MHz CL4 ram

BTW, I noticed that F8 has a MCH temperature reading besides the motherboard temperature. Is there anyway to access that reading using some software?

Thanks all

This is almost comical. That MCH temp was in one of the earlier bios that was released and then it went away. And now you say it is back. I can't look at it cause I don't have a board anymore LOL. But I can tell you that I emailed GB tech support about it over a month ago to ask if it was coming back and they told me it never existed. So......take a picture....cause it will probably go away if you flash another bios LOL.

As for accessing it, I have no idea. I didn't see it in anything that I used to monitor temps.

Out of curiousity, what temp does it show?

57 would be about right since the heatsink will burn your hand if you touch it.

I just setup my new system today, i have the following:
Gigabyte ds3
e6300
Patriot 2gb 667

It seems that the temperature software utility i have is reporting the two e6300 core temperatures at 47C. Isnt this high? also is it worth updating to f8 bios. And how can i know what the current version of my bios is? thanks..

In the bios setup, disable the Gigabyte logo screen. On reboot, look at the DOS-mode bootup screen, which will display the current bios version. Or, a Windows program like CPU-Z, Everest or SiSoftSandra can show the bios version, or at least the bios creation date.

48C seems a bit high for stock settings. My E6300 runs at 32C idle/37C heavy load with an overclock to 2.8GHz. Although, if you are using the cooling solution that came with the CPU, that might be a normal temp...I have never used the stock cooling solution myself. I would invest in higher end cooling first if you can. A high performance 80mm fan CPU/Heatsink combo at least, 120mm if your case has the room.

I am having trouble getting the GSkill ram listed below to boot at 4-4-4-12 timings. I have tried 2.0-2.2v and the ram will not boot at 400FSB. The closest I can get the ram to 400FSB is 360FSB at 4-4-4-12. I have the brand new F8 bios for the DS-3 motherboard. Is this ram comptable with the DS-3 board?
