Got this mobo in gf's machine. Gonna replace p4 preshott with an e6400 tomorrow night and do some oc'ing. The ram in the build is corsair value and is running at ddr2-750 right now, so 3.0ghz shouldn't be a problem. Just had a few questions for all you ds3 users out there. I didn't get a chance to read through all the 59 pages in the thread, so I thought I'd post them up:

I was wondering if there are any "strap" issues like with some of the asus boards? (IE, does it strap at 400, so I should go higher then that to make up the difference?)

Is there an fsb range that is problematic and I should avoid if at all possible?

thanks!

Anwser: Yes

I run 1:1. When I played with the dividers it didn't go well. I think most run 1:1.

yes, there's a strap issue or yes there's and fsb range that has trouble reaching stability? Or yes to something else?

It differs per motherboard but I believe all the 965 chipsets have issues with straps or dividers, whatever intel calls them.

1:1 is your best bet IMO.

i have a question too - is everyone advocating using Micron D9 ram on this board? Seemes like the Geil 6400 stuff deos pretty well with this board and it's not too expensive

I'm in the same boat as you StopSign. With the F7 bios is seems that my X-FI isn't recognized in Windows roughly every 3rd cold boot whereas the F9 bios doesn't retain my overclock settings. The F9 also freaks me out every time I cold boot it. It powers on w/no POST and stays on indefinitely until I power cycle.

Sigh... I pray there will be an F10 bios with these fixes.

It was $13 for ground to my house making the total $143ish

Plus eWiz's site looks janky. I just don't trust them for some reason.

lol, yeah the site needs some work. But I don't think you need to worry about trusting them. I know quite a few users who go there to get the Enhance 5150 PSU.

But you got a better deal anyhow with ZZF.

According to that site what you (we) have is Elpida chips on a Brainpower PCB. I can get mine to 465 and possibly more. The max is around 475 to 480 where it doesn't boot. I read a review somewhere that said this memory doesn't like to be overvolted. Have you tried running it at the rated 2.1v?

MWave.com is also back in stock on the DS3.
Their price is $129.15, less "$10 off" coupon for new customers (via froogle.com).
Do a froogle.com search for:
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel 965 Chipset
and mwave.com's price of $129.15 appears first.

CPU is at 1.2500 or something around there. It's undervolted by 0.075v.

Yes, Vdimm must be +0.3 to be operational at this clock speed. 1.8 or 1.9 might actually be stable at stock, but I haven't tested that. I just know it boots up at 1.8 no problem.

Everything else is at normal.

i'm surprised you're getting 456 speed without overvolting the FSB. I'll give it a try though.

I had it stable at 465 with FSB at normal. I'm not going to push for that though because I'd rather run my CPU cool by undervolting despite the ever so slight performance loss.
