Any bios is fine if you don't overclock. The only reason for you to update is if a newer bios has some features you want.

Eh, F10 was going great for me until this morning. I encountered the black screen of nothingness upon cold boot. I had to powercycle after the black screen and then speeds reset to stock settings. I then updated to my proven stable oc settings and booted back up. Yesterday I had shut my pc down several times trying to make it cold boot but I guess I didn't leave it powered off long enough. Odd thing is, this only happens when I overclock to over 700mhz ram. 699mhz doesn't give me the cold boot issue. I have Corsair Dominators :|

This damn motherboard is fine, until you turn it off for long periods of time. I'm seriously thinking about RMAing at this point.

700 mhz? Is that 1400 MHz after double rate?

No. By trial and error I found that my cold boot issue starts at 700mhz(350mhz x 2) ram.

My stable overclock (13hrs + of Orthos) I've been using was 8x400 on my e6600 @ default voltage. Cold boot on this DS3 won't hold the settings

Edit: updated sig for more info.

I did the long term cold boot test this morning. I had the system off for 12 hours since last night and into this morning. Turned the system on this morning and it ran just fine to my astonishment. Prior BIOS version would keep cycling on and off at DDR 1000 until the BIOS reverted back to default clock values. I'm happy with F10.

How can you possibly be having problems with 350 MHz memory?

That's what I'm saying. That speed is very much under spec for the Dominator's I have. But for some reason the motherboard gives me the cold boot issue when the ram is at 2x350 and above. I think I'm going to try upping the voltage from 2.1 to 2.2 on the ram and see if it gives me issues on cold boot.

Doesn't sound very feasible for me... but just in case...

Thanks all

The following procedure has worked perfectly for me in XP through several boards with different RAID chipsets: You'll need 3 drives for this....otherwise, it can't be done.

I use Ghost 2003, but I suppose other cloning software will work. You'll net to set-up your cloning software before you begin the cloning porocess.

Enter BIOS, enable RAID/IDE - reboot into XP. (Don't bother with the RAID set-up screen just yet). XP's new hardware detection will either nag for the RAID drivers or (if it doesn't) enter system properties, open SCSI device and update drivers. Just be sure the appropriate RAID drivers are loaded before you go to the next step.

Shut 'er down, unplug the power cord and punch the power button (anti ESD).

Connect your two RAID drives to the Purple SATA leads - Boot to the RAID configuration menu, set your RAID properties, save and shut down. Unplug the power cord and punch the power button (anti ESD).

Now connect the drive you want to clone to a non-RAID (orange) SATA connectors.

Boot into the Ghost applet. Ghost 2003 uses floppy, CD or flash drive to boot into a DOS (PC DOS) environment. Select Clone, disc to disc: The application will detect your drives. For example: Assuming each of the 3 drives are the same size (I.E. 250 GB), the RAID set will be detected as 500 GB. Select the 250 GB (still using the example of 3 X 250) as source and 500 as destination.

It should take 10 to 15 minutes.

After your completed, shut down and disconnect the single drive.

Boot into your new RAID environment.

Now wasn't that fun?!?!

I'm overclocked just fine with F4 .. ( see specs below )
All the struggle seems to be with trying to get tighter RAM timings .. ( unless I missed something ..

I have my RAM set to ' AUTO ' .. Needless to say, the timings are pretty loose, but I spend my time working with my PC, instead of on it ...

I turned my PC off before going to bed last night. This morning I powered on and still no cold boot issue. Even after this extended period of time. The whole system has been stable at DDR 1000 memory speed with the F10 BIOS.

Anybody notice that the F10 BIOS is no longer on the GigaByte site? Hereis the page that I've always used. I've got the 965P-DS3 rev 1 board. After some positive comments, I was going to download F10 and give it a try.

This is where I got F10 from. It works with my revision 1 board.

Got the F10 Bios Installed after trying F9 and having loads of problems.

Loads of problems with the F10 also, having to use really loose timing's on my Geil D9 based Dram. like 5-8-8-20 shockinlg loose. Dont know really why there should be a problem here, I worked for Micron for 2 years in the test engineering department and all the module which were stress tested in the quality department were tested mainly on Gigabyte, Asus and MSI motheboards with all modules running through all the boards and all the different chipsets.

F10 is hit or miss for me. Last night I went to 8X400 which is always very easy and I played COD2 for a while with no problems at almost stock settings for ram (+0.3) and CPU (1.4V). I took it up to 405 and the thing went into an endless reboot cycle! This is ridiculous since I've been getting 8X420 in the past. Also, I hit the same 700Mhz wall that someone else did... I was at 9X350 very stable but 9X355 also went into an endless reboot cycle. I think F10 is better in some respects, but very quirky for different setups.

First a question: does enabling raid places enough of a burden on the motherboard to impact the stability of an OC? I'm finding that after enabling raid, I need to increase the MCH voltage by 0.1 to maintain a very stable 400 MHz FSB with 6300. Otherwise, I ran into the situation of the monitor refuse to display anything even though the computer beeps once indicating the system has posted.

Second question: what exactly is the FSB voltage? How does that differ from MCH?

I'm not sure what would happen with the good old F7 bios.

P.S. Reinstalling windows XP (because of a virus invasion) was such a hassle without floppy but with a RAID.

My new DS3 mobo is on the way. My Hardware provider changed my old mobo because of "ide problem". Finally, i'm gonna take a deep fresh breath.

Fellas, i want to use my hdd's and my optics without any problem for this time. What's your sytem installation (raid0) advices and instructions for me?

From now, I really appreciate your help. Thank's in advance.
