Someone asked the question not long ago why all these problems were never mentioned in any of the anandtech reviews. I didn't notice anyone answering that, even though they do read this.

I agree I think testing is different then actual use for one. Anandtech isn't the only site either.

I like pcper alot myself but the reviews are about the same as here.

HardOCP does the best job IMO of reviews, those guys tell the truth, period.

It's hard to imagine that one of these companies can't pay one tech person to cruise the forums and anwser questions.

AMD about mid-year should have some new exciting products out. It has been a tough road on this 965 product and I can tell you ASUS 965 products have been the same with quirky stuff.

I recommended EPOX because I think they had the best budget product for AMD after chaintech went belly up. After looking into it more there 965 is a product not ready for release. I have faith that epox will correct the problem shortly but who knows.

I never had any of the IDE problems with my board but I only use one optical drive which is new. OCing has been great but I'm not an extreme OCer like you all. 400fsb with my 6300 is great.

The Raid 0 is really funky, not a great performance benifit and there is a bug somewhere with sound or mouse drivers that some programs freeze for a moment when opening which I don't like.

Good luck with your search.

BTW they don't use the jmicron controller.

or get one of the 975 boards? 680i is just too expensive IMO.

EDIT: Skip the epox looks like epox is beta testing this product with end users. That stinks!

Quite honestly....... I won't ever buy another Intel chipset motherboard. They have just done too many stupid things over the last 3 years and I'm tired of being the beta tester for them.

The thing that really frosts me is that hardware review sites keep letting them get away with it and endorsing all their crap. Someone asked the question not long ago why all these problems were never mentioned in any of the anandtech reviews. I didn't notice anyone answering that, even though they do read this.
And for every whiner like you there is a guy like me(probably 10,000 to 1 whiner) that has absolutely no issues with the Intel chipset and the Epox/MSI/Gigabyte boards.

I gotta say that the DS3 I have(rev1.0 and C1) runs like a perpetual motion top at a very nice overclock and extremely stable. I don't get the cold reboot nonsense either when I decide to turn off my system(which isn't often although when it does get shutdown it definitely gets cooled off).

I don't understand why people like you continue to rag on this board and now this chipset. You said you would leave and yet you are still here spreading your venom.

Dude, get an iMac and don't try to overclock it. You are a system killer... I wouldn't let you use my system even if I stood behind you because I am sure you would figure out a way to kill it.

Downloaded the F10 bios for my Ds3 rev1. Everything seems to run fine haven't had the cold boot issue with this board at all so far regardless of bios version, currently running the E6600 at 3.42ghz (380 x 9).

One happy camper here.

same as cicero here. Only issue ived had is that ived tried to find the lowest voltage needed for 380x9 and i think i found it at 1.387 volt. But im still testing. Ived gotten my ram up to 507 mhz with no issues. This board is awsome =) . Still using the F9 bios though

You're not the same as cicero. You're using F9........

But anyway, for those of you who haven't gotten cold boot problems: the problems usually don't start until you exceed 400 FSB. Both of you are at 380.

I have rev1/C1 from last Sept. Sure it has its quirks but overall I'm quite happy with it. If I had to decide on a mobo all over again I think I'd still go for a DS3.

I hear ya, bro. My decision to go with the DS3 is one I would make again... as would be my decision to go with a C2D E6400 and DDR2-800 Corsair RAM.

Running so smooth at 3.2Ghz it should probably be against the law, lol. I am entirely sure I could get more from this system but it already does everything I do really fast and is stable to boot while being faster than the top of the line C2D chip. How can you argue against that? Simple, you can't.

I just purchased this setup:

Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte P965-DS3 (rev 1)
2 GB Corsair PC6400 DDR2 (2x1GB)
Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro
Ati AIW X1900

I have a few quick questions

- My Temps are reporting as the following. CPU: 25C and SYSTEM: 39C. Is that reporting correctly? This is my first Intel system and when I had my previous AMD one the system temp was ALWAYS lower than the CPU.

- Is it normal for the CPU fan on the Artic Cooler 7 to not run depending on the temperature of the CPU?

Thanks for any help!

System seems a little high. I would expect no more than 35. Is this at stock?
Not sure about this fan NOT running... generally it wouldn't stop running... it would just run slower. What's your fan setting in BIOS? I would use Intel QST with PWM.

It depends. I have sunbeam's cpu cooler... It does a good enough job of cooling that 1000 RPM at idle is good enough. Full speed of 2300 PRM is not loud but it's loudER than 1000 and thus unnecessary.

Edit: I'm using the F10 BIOS with the option to set AHCI for the ICH8 chipset.

The AHCI setting only applies to SATA drives connected to one of the 2 purple JMicron SATA ports. And, not all SATA hard drives support "AHCI mode", only very recently released drives. The DS3 board uses the ICH8-non "R" chipset. So, the Intel Matrix Storage drivers are only for Intel Raid chipsets. The DS3 board does provide Raid, but only via the JMicron Raid controller (purple ports only).
The latest JMicron driver can be found here:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/jmicron.htm
Use these drivers to make a floppy disk for a fresh Windows install (press F6 while booting from the Windows install CD). The target SATA boot drive (connected to a purple port) can be AHCI mode for either Raid or non-Raid.
Note: not sure whether the AHCI setting would also apply to the orange Intel non-Raid SATA ports (doubtful).

Anybody know where to get the Intel Drivers for AHCH? I am using F10 Bios and when windows boots up it asks for driver...?? Where do I get that?

Not sure what AHCI option for intel ports mean... This option is really new so you might just have to ask Gigabyte what they are... I personally would use the purple ports for AHCI... You can install the Jmicron drivers and then move the drives to these ports wihtout reinstalling windows. That should work...

Thanks for the help. I acually just disabled the system fan control and the CPU fan is now running at 2500RPM and the temps are: System: 37C and CPU:20C.

Everything on my system is stock and the weird thing was that with fan control, the CPU fan wouldn't even spin (0rpm) until the temps started going up to about 25C on the CPU. It freaked me out the first time I turned on the machine to not have the CPU fan spin!

It seems that Intel has yet to provide a functional AHCI driver for non-raid chipsets.

I had the exact same experience. When I booted up the very first time, my Freezer 7 Pro wasn't spinning at all. Every 5 seconds or so the fan would wiggle a little. I thought the fan was broken. Then I did some reading on the DS3 and found that I have to disable fan control to have the fan always spinning.

well got a dilema now,

with the F10 bios seems to be stable at 450Mhx~FSB but gets rocky above that, F7 was better for me. But now i have had my faulty Asus p5B-Deluxe Wi-Fi replaced and its sitting her screaming to be hooked back up. Really not sure what to do now

No issues with Miron Ram there

Unfortunately the link you provided won't work. Tried several times after loggging in and said I don't have permission. ( I guess I am not of Nobel Birth! )

Have any other places to get the drivers?
