Wondering if you could help me, i have a ds3 rev 2 board 1 sata hard drive 1 sata optical drive both drives are connected to the purple connectors.
device manager shows pci device error. the hard drive is running achi and the optical is running in sata mode both show working properly
i was wondering if my pci error has something to do with the way i setup the hdd and optical drive?
how do i get rid of the yellow mark in device manager for pci device?

What bios version? F8 or later includes an updated JMicron controller firmware.
Are Intel chipset and JMicron controller drivers installed?
What SATA HD model? Only newer HD's include AHCI support.
Sorry: don't have a list of which ones are, or are not, supporting AHCI.
Not sure whether ANY optical drives include AHCI support. Try connecting the optical drive to an orange Intel SATA port.

Man this thing really has me stumped. I have 1 seagate 320gb sata drive, 1 lite-on optical drive, 1 evga 7900gs ko video card. All three devices show working properly. Optical and hd working in scsi mode. Video card is working fine. Installed intel, jmicron and video card drivers, dont think theres any other drivers available. But i got this stupid pci device error. I tried the orange port and still showing up. Any ideas?

Is this PCI device related to your HD, CDROM, Video Card?
What do you mean by PCI device error anyways? What's the message?

Is your sound card working?

Your post is not specific enough...

I dont have a sound card, but heres the error code details it gives me in device manager: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_284B&SUBSYS_A0021458&REV_02\3&13C0B0C5&0&D8
I did a google search and found it was for high def audio, so i guess i need to find the correct driver for it.

LOL... this is why i mentioned sound card. I had the same issue - some stupid PCI issue. It turned out to be UAA... funny thing is, I installed UAA driver... it just didn't register for some reason...

Hi, interesting thread, just read my way through the last 10 or so pages. Couldn't find a forum hosted by Gigabyte so stumbled on this treasure trove of experience via google. Some advice would be welcome please.
What's with the 'CIA 2' overclocking option. My understanding is its an automated overclocking function. However whenever I stick it in 'cruise' mode, the lowest setting, and change system voltage control to 'auto', which the CIA 2 option seems to suggest, the rig then fails to boot, or even post, forcing a reset of the CMOS. Am I doing something wrong or is the CIA 2 option just pants generally?

I wouldn't use CIA 2 if I were you. What's your system spec? Some kind of C2D assume? Memory speed? If you want to overclock just do it directly. Set your memory multiplier thing to the lowest number (which is 2, which means 1:1). Then start uping the FSB. There's a good chance (assuming your memory can handle DDR 800) that you can run stable at 400 MHz at all default voltages (barring what you need for memory to get to DDR2 800). Well what I said only applies to 6300 and 6400... 6600 might need more work...

Thanks for the response. I've included system spec in my signature, memory is 2 gb corsair xms2 6400 so i guess it runs at 3200 x 2. Have been a PC enthusiast for years but never really got to grips with hardcore cpu and ram overclocking. I'll do some experimenting as per your suggestions and hopefully wont fry anything!

Well step up the FSB slowly and you should be fine. With a 6600 you can probably start OC at 333 MHz on FSB. Only thing to make sure is set your memory multiplier to 1:1 and set your memory's voltage to the correct voltage. Default voltage is 1.8 on DS3. So if your memory has a specification of 2.0, just up it by .2 volts. It might work at 1.8 anyways...

I was eager to overclock, but then I witnessed the suggested stock temperatures said in this thread. These temperatures are at stock settings. I have never overclocked this system.

Idle temps.
25C CPU
37C System

Load temps.
35C CPU
45C System

CPU cooler is the Scythe Ninja Plus Revision B, with the fan control disabled in the BIOS. The case is a Lian Li PC-G70 (full tower case). The system temperature worried me from the start. Should I think about an aftermarket cooler for the northbridge, or is there something else at work here that's the cause of such a high temperature?

Thanks.

Ok so far, heres what I did

CPU Host Frequency = 333 (what would the E6600 default frequency be)?
PCI express frequency = 100 (as suggested in several posts)
Memory Multiplier = 2.00
Stock voltages.
So with the above, does this mean the ram is running at 2 x 333 = 666. Furthermore to run it at 800mhz would I need to set the CPU host frequency to 400 and leave the multiplier at 2.0?

Sorry for all the questions!

My ram is C4 and according to the corsair spec sheet stress tested at 2.1V and 800mhz so should be plenty of headroom once I get the hang of which levers to pull in the bios.

do 4:5 instead of 1:1 aka 2.50 in bios.

Im using 2.66 or 4:5 on f9 bios

stock fsb for a e6600 is 266x9

fsb at 380 x 8
pci-e 100
ived uped my diim to 2.2 (0.4)
fsb at 0.1
and 1.387 volt on the cpu.

a note though. U need to have some good ram(and cooler) for this but if u do then the performance is awsome.

stabile ived runned a 10 hours orthos with nothing.

Not sure I follow how 4:5 = 2.50. If the memory multiplier is 2.5, doesn't the ram simply run at 2.5x the CPU host frequency? What does the 4:5 ratio signify?

I might be wide of the mark here but to run memory at 800mhz is that not

cpu host = 400, with mem multiplier = 2.0
or
cpu host = 200, with mem multiplier = 4.0

etc.

Similarly I am assuming the cpu runs at the product (in mhz) of the CPU multiplier and the CPU host frequency, would that be correct?

in the bios u got 2 diffrent mhz when u oc on this board

the first is what ya ram is rated for 800 if u got pc6400 ram and the second is the one that they gonna run on in a overclock. As u change the multiplier u can see that the number changes. This means that u can get ya ram to do higher mhz even though the fsb isen`t high. But remember to give the volt ya ram is rated for and loosen the timings in the begning when you go over its rated mhz(800 for pc 6400). When u have found a stabil oc then u can take down the timings slowly and offcause ya pc gonna get some dead boots but in the end u gonna find the best timings that ya ram can manage. im runnings with 950 mhz on my ram or 475 mhz in cpu-z with a bandwidth of 7.2 gb. I know that they ca do more but im waiting currently for my new water cooler system and ill take it higher.

@ ako23

dont look at those cpu temps. Use a program called coretemp that actually shows the temp of inside the 2 cores and not just outside.

35 cpu means that ya cpu is hot...think is the end of the 50ish C. And c2d are rated to 60 so take it easy mate.

Well with a bit more experimenting i've now got

CPU multiplier = x8
CPU host freq = 375
Mem multiplier = 2
Stock voltages and timings.

Which I guess means its running at CPU = 3ghz and ram at 750 mhz - awesome (for an overclocking noob)!
Booted first time as well.
Noticed in the bios the system temp was 40C and CPU temp was 45C, prior to the above ramp up, im assuming thats ok?

I know the 6400 ram is rated to 800mhz, but what would be a reasonable limit for overclocking a E6600 cpu, 3.2 or 3.4 ghz perhaps?

my ram is doing 475 mhz at 3.4 ghz and be sure that its inside the core that the temp is monitored and not outside. Thats why u use a divider cause the ram can do more but the mobo can`t.

I'd say 3.6 is fairly reasonable.

I have decided to build a computer agan after several years off (last was P3-700 running at 933). I have I hope settled on this board as a middle of the road (pricewise) board but good overclocker - my question is what memory is MOST reliable with this board - want 2 Gig set up. I do not want memory issues. I plan to run either a 6300 or the new 4300 processor overclocked medium high - do not need to breack any speed barriers.
