No higher bandwidth gain either, but rather less bandwidth as you're forced to loosen your RAM timings at the higher FSB.
I agree...515x7 would most likely require you to loosen timings. But if you read carefully...what I'm really after is the sweet spot: maximum bandwidth, the same Ram timings at 450 FSB as you would use at 400, and all on the 1067 strap. I believe that spot to be 450 x 8 if the OC target is 3.6 ghz.

Take a breath pal. We're just having a friendly discussion here and I certainly value your opinion and view.

Does anybody have any experience with removing the NB heatsink on DS3? I see a pin holding it in but I don't know if I want to mess with it. I would like to take it off put on some as5, and also strap a fan to it before reattaching it. But i don't want to mess with it unless I can put it back on...

Anyone finding the DS3P 3.3 with F4 bios a bad overclocker?
Can you use a DS3 non P bios on a DS3?

Don't know man. I think that if heatsink is hot - that means good heat conduction and no need of arctic silver 5. I have only attached 40mm fan to the heatsink with one screw. It is an easy operation. The most important thing is to hold steady with a hand NB heatsink and very gently to screw.

I agree... hot would mean good conductivity. Your picture is not working though...
I wanted to hot glue this thing to the board... but I'm not sure how hot it gets maybe that will melt the glue... I thought about screw but I can't get a good spot to apply the screw...

OK, so I am currently running 370x9 with Firestix at 2.1v and 5-5-5-15 with the e6600 at 1.4v and passing Orthos for at least one hour. What other setting can I try to improve my OC? I have tried 4-4-4-15 and crashed Orthos, tried those timings at 2.2v. I guess I can't complain with 3.3, but I was wondering what other settings can I muck with. I am running stock cooling and getting around 53 with Orthos at the 3.33GHz setting. Using the F10 bios.

Another question. I am running a Raptor 74GB in the test setup. Which SATA port is optimal. I am currently using the Orange one labeled SATA10. Someone mentioned this:

"So, all I have to do to get optimal mode and benefits from SATA is:

1. BIOS->Integrated Peripherals->OnBoard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode -> Changed to 'AHCI'
2. install GSATAII drivers
3. Reconnect HDD from orange port to blue port
Will it work ?"

I don't have a blue port, but a purple one. Is this in effect the same thing? Thanks.

they meant purple...

If you are not going to run raid, then just leave it on intel's ports (orange).

Since you have a raptor, just leave it there and get couple of more drives to run raid 0 on the purple ports...

Doesn't your firestix have D9 chips? Why is it struggling to 4-4-4-15 at below it's DDR 800 specification? Is your memory multiplier set correctly? i.e. it's not on auto but on 2.00?

I don't know. I looked at the chips using this technique --> link, it looked like the pictures. So I assume it is Micron.

BTW, memory is on 2.0.

I do it . Works great.

Thanks, guess I won't have to buy a fan controller.

I have another question, will DDR2-400 memory work with this motherboard? Gigabyte lists the supported memory as DDR2 800/667/533 memory. I'd like to reuse some old memory so I was hoping I can still use it with this board.

I can't seem to find drivers or bios upgrades for the DS 3.3 version on the gigabyte site. Where is everyone getting them? Thanks!

Thanks a ton Tenax, I am having some major problems with Vista though. How does one monitor CPU temps with vista? Is there any gigabyte software available that works with Vista?

Arr having major problems with my DS3 with CPU fan and front audio panel.

I received the DS3 V3.3 shipped with F10 from NewEgg

1.) The CPU Fan on my Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7 does not spin at all unless the CPU Fan Smart Control in BIOS is set on Disabled. I really don't want it running at full blast all the time, why won't the Intel QSF or Legacy options work?

2.) The front panel audio ports of my Antec P180 do not work, I really need to make use of front audio ports for my headphones. I tried to dl audio software from gigabyte but it won't work with Vista. Anyone else know how I could get these to work?

Thanks!

i don't use vista so take my opinion with a grain of salt:

a) the auzula or whatever the heck onboard audio is called can be finicky and that may be your problem more so than vista..someone on another forum said if you are having any sound problems, go to the realtek website and download latest drivers from there.

b) are you sure that the fan won't spin? if i understand it correctly, on the intel setting thingie, the fan won't kick in until the cpu gets to a certain temp which you should be able to adjust in bios..i was a bit alarmed the other day after trying some overclocking and have to reset the bios (which enabled the intel smartfan type option we're talking about) that my thermaltake typhoon fan wouldn't come on..well, at least not right away..took at good 2 minutes before it came on..and i remembered this from the when i first got the board as well and it wasn't a but..i believe the system will literally not turn on the fan until the monitoring software feels it's required..so i would recommend lowering the cpu temp that the bios monitors? i use a typhoon and it's very quiet at any speed. i disabled all the thermal stuff in the bios and let it do it's thing..obviously there is still some monitoring and adjusting of speed that happens in any case as my typhoon at non overclock will run as low as 750rpm..as high as 1440 when i hard overclock

Well, you know you can adjust the fan speed from within windows then. Use speedfan or something. It will be at full speed at boot but after program loads it should lower the fan speed to whatever you want.

I was hoping for more of a fix though, I hate using band aid solutions. Is this a common problem with this bios (F10) or am I in the few? Thanks for continued help

I know you have checked but are you sure you have the header plug plugged in correctly. I have found myself missing it even when I checked twice. Miy front panel works fine with XP Pro - do not have Vista so cannot help but do not see how that would be a driver issue if audio works otherwise..
