I can't complete the Beginner Series because the oldest cars I see are in the 90`s. I can't do any of the classic car races. I'm lvl 6 so do I need to level up to unlock more cars to purchase so I can get an older car? No old Euro or Japanese cars anywhere in the used or new dealerships for me.

I don't know how it works but I just keep going back after I do like an event and there is no inventory. I finally found a old Japanese car for the event you are talking about, some POS Honda, and omg, it is fucking horrible. It is like half the speed of the rest of the cars in that event, I was pissed I spent credits on it.

I'm lvl 13 now and still haven't found cars for some of these events, I wish the used car dealership was setup like the new car so we can just pick and choose wtf we want instead of it being freaking random all the damn time.

One thing that has made me LOL though, for some events that have no restrictions I used the F1 McLaren (gamestop preorder car) and the rest of the competition is in freaking civics and shit lol

i'll have to try this when i get a chance. i don't recall this issue.
i remember the clutch/shifter working better than i expected, meaning i could put it in first and let the clutch out slowly and "stall" the car.

what car are you driving?
i remember the clutch not working with the GT-R, perhaps because it's DSG.

So far this has been with every car I have tried. I think it has something to do with the manual clutch perhaps not registering being 100% disengaged or something.

I was reading at GTPlanet.com that you get less XP the bigger the difference in your level and the level of the race you run. You don't get less XP with an insane car, just with every level you are higher than the race you run.

Don't forget that we can trade cars back and forth, so if anybody has a decent car that can be used for one of the unique series (like the Japanese classic or similar), some of us would appreciate the sharing. If somebody has a Yaris, I wouldn't mind to borrow it for a series.

I'm assuming that when you gift a car to someone, it will keep any and all performance upgrades.

EDIT: Looks like the promised 1.02 patch was just released an hour or so ago.

No patch notes.

Once you hit a certain lvl you are given a yaris as a reward. I think I got it when I hit lvl 11 maybe?

I finally got a car for the Japanese thing for 69 or older. A skyline, gets beat by most of the cars on the straight aways but pushes ahead in the turns. Ended up getting gold on the 3 races with it. Though I had to get shady at the end of the third race and kept cuttin infront of the car that was tryin to pass me on the straightaway lol.

I just threw a turbo, intake, exhaust and some soft sport tires on my 1960s beater, won all the races by like 30 sec. Seems to work for all of the A-spec stuff I've done so far.

Does anyone have a truck I could use?

Damn things are nearly impossible to come by. The only sure fire way to get one is to do the I-A license. I suppose I could do it, but, eh....

Anyone playing GT5, feel free to add me on PSN: fatpat268

There are no brake upgrades.

Makes me wonder if they forgot them, or if was by design not to include brake upgrades.

They're claiming they left them out intentionally to save space What an enormous crock of shit. Do they really think we'd buy that? They forgot them in their 6 years of development somehow and they're trying to not look like the fools they are.

They've been working on the same game since 1997. The same formula has been present for each iteration. Each subsequent sequel has been based on the prior, so they've not had to make something from scratch since the first one. This game should have been honed to perfection, but it's really pointed out how much they've ignored the basics since day one. They still can't get the menus / navigation right (it's been a disaster since GT2), the sounds are still embarrassingly bad (it's not the 90's any more, racing games actually sound good these days), the same USELESS, and I mean USELESS AI we've seen time after time, the damage that we've been bitching about since GT2 is now here and it's a huge disappointment. The online racing we've wanted since GT3 is now here and should be rich and feature-packed. There shouldn't be this many glaring errors in a game that's been in development for 6 years. 6 years. I'll repeat it again, 6 fucking years. It should be a masterpiece, not just look like one.

The other thing that gets my undies in a bunch is the premium vs non-premium cars. All of these cars should be premium. I find that a ton of my favorite cars, which I'd love to see the enhanced detail and interior, are non-premium. Stupid. Again, you had 6 years.

Lastly is the feeling of "artistry" and seriousness I get from the game. The first half of the intro movie is a snoozefest of ore being transformed into steel. Steel being transformed into sheet metal...all the while you're listening to plinky piano music. What am I in a fucking museum!? I'm playing this game for FUN, let's have some! The overall presentation is sterile and I get the feeling the creators didn't have fun in mind when directing the development of this game. It also shows when I can't modify non-premium cars in any way. It's 2010, let's have some flexibility for christ's sake.

All that being said, I'm still playing the game and having fun with it, it's glorious to look at, but I'm just really bummed out by the drawbacks of a game that really should have been perfected. The fact the mark was missed is a disappointment, does Polyphony even know what their fans want anymore?

You really, really believe they forgot them? No, they just didn't put them in. For whatever reason.

They either forgot them or weren't able to implement them by release date for some reason. Why would they not implement something they've had since their first game? You can upgrade everything else, chassis rigidity, midpipes, headers, strut bars, they've included more detail than any of their games before, but the brakes are mysteriously missing because of "space limitations"? That's such a lie.

I think the navigation/menus are pretty nice. Everything you'd want is just a couple of clicks away. The main GT Life menu is laid out nicely and easy to understand. I like it a lot more than GT4, IMO it's a huge upgrade.

As far as the sound, I'm not an audiophile, but every indication from other people around the net is that the sound is great and the series' best. There are still a few here and there that think it could be better, but you're the first I've seen to say "embarrassingly" bad. I think the sounds are great and even like that they've upgraded the usually bad tire squealing noise that I've always hated in the GT series.

I'll give you the damage bit. I personally don't care about damage since I don't think it really adds much to racing games anyway. The point is to not hit other cars, which I don't typically do.

As far as the online component, I've not raced online yet, but everything I've seen and read about it contradicts your saying that it's not rich or feature-packed. If anything, it seems like they're one of the first Japanese developers to produce a competent online feature set. From being able to gift and share cars, paint, horns, etc., being able to spectate in-progress races, being able to run practice laps while people are joining your lobby, having a social-network-like message board for each individual friend to enhance communication, 16-player online racing, etc. The only two things that seem a bit odd is the lobby codes (which isn't even that big of a deal) and the fact that anyone in the lobby can start the race (which will most likely be fixed before too long).

I think you're forgetting that Gran Turismo is more of a car museum than a racing game. This has been GT from day one, I'm not sure why you're expecting it to change. I personally love the sounds and looks of the menus in the entire series.

There's a severe, and I mean severe lack of attention to vehicle sounds. Pick up a game like Forza 3 or GTR 2 and you'll see how in-game sounds should sound. In GT5, a Subaru, which has one of the most distinct engine notes for a common car, sounds like a Civic and nothing like the real thing. I will say the sounds are the best of the series yet, but they still lack pop...realism, they've very unconvincing to me. I would think I'm being too demanding, but other games can get it right, so it's possible. Why can't the virtual museum of a game get it right?

They've never simulated brake fade or allowed different compounds for the pads.. I don't think that the missing brake upgrades are a huge deal as a result.. unless they'd implement those too.

I couldn't disagree more. The menus are idiotic. The UI doesn't flow well at all, and it takes way too many button presses to do something simple. Stuff like buying upgrades for your cars and changing your oil should all be accessed from your garage. You shouldn't have to redeem a ticket to get a car, it should go straight to the garage.

When I press the Circle Button, it should back out of the menu, and not just move the cursor to the close button. I should be able to change the options while in game and in the GT Life mode.

It's as if no though was put into the UI. It's cluttered as hell, and with the loading, the menus are a lot slower than they should be.

I agree with Geno on this one, this game is a huge dissapointment. Considering the time they had to work on it, there are no excuses why they couldn't have gotten it right. I got the game at midnight when it came out and so far there have been 2 large updates trying to "fix" what should have been right to begin with, especially considering how long the game was delayed so they could "get it right" before releasing it.

I love the GT series games, but I always end up just running laps at 3 or 4 of my favorite tracks with 3 or 4 of my favorite cars trying to get the best lap times. With the AI as bad as it is, that is the only thing fun to do in this game. I just wish they would do away with the leveling system and having to earn money alltogether so we wouldn't have to suffer through racing against the AI cars for any reason. (maybe that is the reason for B-spec, you can earn money while not having to even sit there while the race is on... I can think of no other reason for B-spec)

I'm hoping the online play works well enough so I can get online and race with a few of my friends, then it will at least be some justification for buying this game.

Well...... back to Nurburgring to run some laps!

I'll have to take your word for it then since I'm not really qualified to judge it correctly. I guess that's why I don't see an issue with it in the first place. Ignorance is bliss.

I finally got a truck (did the IA license... IA-10 is HELL). I willing to send it anyone who needs it for that truck challenge.
