I beg to differ: Fanatec GT3 RS V2 is better. Bundle that with a quality shifter like the act-labls shifter, and use their awesome pedal set, and you've got something that'll blow the G27/25 out of the water. No more cheap "shifter" feel, and a BELT driven FF, as opposed to gears.

Of course, there are better wheels out there, but fanatec is better than G27.

I know you probably don't have an Xbox 360, but you (anyone, actually, who likes GT5) owe it to yourself to find a way to play Forza 3.

I only played the Forza 3 demo.. my G27 doesn't work with the 360 so that was all I did. :\

I've been able to look past the flaws/annoyances so far and I'm really enjoying the game for what it is. So feel free to gift me your cars too. :awe:

So what you guys are telling me is that you don't want to do a GT5 racing night? I'm not saying the game has its issues, it definitely does. I'm just surprised that it's completely ruining the game for some of you.

Oh well, if you guys decide to quit playing, be sure to send me your nicest cars, horns, and paint chips.

Horns and paint chips......... really?

Yep. Horns just for collecting them and paint chips so I can paint cars colors they weren't meant to be painted. Because I can.

While you're at it, send me all your museum cards, too. Those are fun to collect and read through as well.

As someone who has a CS degree now, they made some weird choices in GT5. Things that could EASILY be fixed programming wise were left broken. The driving itself is okay, physics feel good to me though.

Anyone notice the weird VW trucks from the 40's? WTF was with that? VW supplied the Nazi army with trucks during WWII, not sure if those are the SAME models, but I think they are... Seems kind of disturbing to include them. Stupid move on part of Sony?

Arstechnica's review is up:

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/revie...-race-a-racing-fan-reviews-gran-turismo-5.ars

I'm in no way a fanboy one way or another FM3/GT5 as I even considered (briefly) picking up everything I would need to play GT5, but, man, these are some brutal reviews. I think I'll wait.

Yeah, brutal but mostly spon-on review. I don't regret my GT5 purchase, but it's not quite as solid and polished as I expected. It's really tough to find a truthful video game review these days anyway. Usually they are like this: "The game was meh, with poor graphics. 7/10". Really, it's like "WTF" sometimes. Anyway, it seems that GT5 is a flawed gem. It's a definite buy for those only with a PS3 (no other good racing games to choose from) but somewhat of a tough sell for those with FM1-3 already in their house. It's different, in some ways better, but a tough sell to those with access to FM3 especially.

It's almost like Sony discourages any other racing games on the PS3, and that might be partially why GT5 didn't have to really deliver a gem. No competition = worse product. I really was hoping some recent great racing games were the driver for GT5 to be better.

Does anyone else feel that the standard controller kind of sucks for GT5? I don't remember GT3 feeling as clunky with the D-Pad or analog stick.

Edit: I really want a wheel because of this....

it leaves everything but you dick nice and clean?

Sad to hear controller just doesnt work well. I dont feel like spending 150 bucks for a wheel but did want to try gt5. might have ot just wait till it hits the 40 dollar mark (via sale or something) to pick it up

Yeah I was looking at the fanatec line, looks really nice but I think I'd really have some serious buyers remorse dropping $300+ on a wheel and stand for one game.

Got a chance to play a little more last night and I was pretty certain the GT5 gods hated me after this run. Took me about 10 more attempts to get the gold trophy and I now have gold in all the B licenses. As for the controller/steering wheel controversy, I'd much prefer a steering wheel but I've been using the controller for now. It seems to work just fine.

a fair review, and i think this sentence sums it up for me.

Residual goodwill stemming from the many hours I'd put in with GTs 1-4 was just about gone, but after playing for many extended sessions, here's the take-home message: at its core, GT5 is a damn good racing game.

but i disagree with their verdict that this is a rental. there's no way you can experience all the GT5 has to offer on a rental basis.

i am surprised they didn't complain more about the load times.

someone asks what's the best wheel... Of course, there are better wheels you can spend for over $1k. But the fanatec is the best consumer level wheel, that uses real leather/alcantera. For realism and the price, fanatec is the way to go.
