Looks like a few territories got the awaited gran-turismo.com facelift that shows you your profile, picture gallery, message board, log, friend list, etc. Not currently up for US site at the moment, but US players can sign into the Hong Kong site, since it is in English. Just head to http://www.gran-turismo.com and choose the Hong Kong site, the login button is in the upper-right.

Looks pretty awesome, it's basically the interface that's in the game transported to the web. The best part is no more flash drive to get pictures, they can just be uploaded. A couple of pics I've taken that I've not bothered getting to my PC:

This is live on the US site now.

I don't really think race night is going to work for GT5 since there is no PI and no real way to make the cars even.

Biggest flaw in the game imo. This is what makes Forza 3 such a great Race Night game. Pick a PI and run with it. The cars may not be exactly even but they are close enough to make fun races.

In GT5...pick a car cross your fingers I guess?

Does this mean we bring back the Forza race night?

I don't know what PI is, but you can set rules for a Lounge in GT5. You can set power limits, tyre limits or just set everyone to have the same car. These are some of the best races as everyone has the same tools, it's just won by the best driver.

It's very important to have strict rules and damage on, though, to prevent bumper cars. I hate that and will leave any race with people ramming and using the PIT maneuver.

PI is Performance Index. Its a feature in Forza3 that equates that all cars that are rated a 'B500' performance index should be relatively equal in lap times. It wasn't a perfect system as some cars seem 'better' than others at any given PI, but it got you in the ballpark. We also ran a lot of our weekly races in FM3 on 'SPEC" builds where everyone ran an identical tune and upgrade package. Neither of those things are feasible under the current online structure of GT5, unless you set it to the same car w/no upgrades.

I don't understand how it wouldn't be feasible. Can't you just tell everyone what car and tune to use? It would be a private lobby, it's not like somebody here would be an asshole and refuse to use a certain car.

that's what we do back in forza 2.

in forza 3 we just send the tune out and people can apply it to the car. any missing upgrade parts will be prompted and bought automatically. it's a gen behind in that aspect.

The only bad thing about specific tunes is when your car has an upgrade that can't be removed.. I'm attempting to participate (need to qualify) in the Spec Miata challenge over at GT Planet and had to buy a new Miata cause I couldn't remove the Stage 1 engine tune. Atleast the car is only like 18k..

We would definitely have to do it that way. The good news is the upgrades are kind of simplistic compared to Forza unless all the fully adjustable mods are on the cars. I want to make it work as I love(d) the Forza racing nights til my Xbox decided to start making loud, obnoxious noises.

Well I'm down for a race night if somebody wants to get it going. I've come close to trying to start it myself but I don't want to be in charge of the thread. I also don't want to step on any Forza toes, either. The Forza night has been going for a long time and deserves to be respected, even by GT folk such as myself.

BTW, there's already a GT5 race night thread here if anybody wants to resurrect it. If you want to create a new race night thread you can. Just let me know and I will lock the old one.

We should definitely start a new one, that thread turned into a complete mess.

Well, whoever wants to take the lead go ahead and start one. I'm not going to do it because I don't have the game.

I didn't know someone could feel threatened by an old game.

Because it plays better and more realistically than a game we've waited 6 years for? But I can't think of another racing game that looks better than GT5, it's definitely the high mark that other games will have to meet. PD just has a way of polishing the look of the game to perfection (except for the shadows, lol)

lol but I don't understand what you're trying to prove with that post. You're trying to prove that a brand new game looks better than 2yr+ old game that is an expansion on a 3yr+ old game??? That doesn't make sense.
