So i picked up the game last night. Its fun. But man the beginner races are pathetically easy. I won most of the races with an 8-10 second lead. using crappy cars. The yaris event was the only challenging on since the gift car yaris was so underpowered. but i managed ot win that anyways

Licensing tests are my downfall though. I did all the national B ones and got silver in most. The last two (indy speedway and straightway overtaking) i got golds on. The rest i just couldnt get gold. not even the stupid breaking one lol.

O well though im in it more for fun than all golds anyways

Try the special events? I don't have the patience for the VW van race. It's so painful. I keep going off track since it doesn't feel fast but the van can't corner.

Has this happened to anyone else doing the advance Top Gear Special Event with those old WWII era cars where a group of them would be coming from the opposite end of the track. You start in 7th or 8th place but after a mass collision in the middle of the track a few cars in front get taken out by the other group. This leaves you in 3rd or 4th. If you pass them up and get to 1st there's a good chance you'll get taken out by the last car in the other group (happened to me on first try). On second try I stayed in 2nd and this time the car in front got rammed into and I cruised onto the finish line.

Was this a bug or intentional? I went back to try the intermediate one but it was fine. I didn't try the advance again though.

Yes, its intentional. There are only 8 cars in the "race" but there are 6 or 8 more that are offset to make it challenging due to the figure 8

I ended up learning the track with the Lotus in intermediate instead. Trying to learn it on the VW is just painful like you said.

I found the VW race a ton easier once I figured it out.. (draft draft draft and brake super late). The Lotus one is still giving me troubles (even with assists on).

that's really tough to do, congrats.
wheel or controller?
any tips?

I did it with the pad and 3rd person view lol. As for IC3 and IA2 I don't know how I passed those since I was basically doing the same thing I did previously. Same brake points, same lines, but for some reason after 30 or so tries I ended up faster than my ghost. :hmm:

This guy has tips on all the tests but hes uses a wheel. Plus hes a freak with the way he passes people on the outside during the one lap battles (especially S8). It's just impossible for me do that on the pad so I just used his vids as guidelines to what place I should be around at different parts of the track. I think I'll get a wheel for the rest of the game... sometimes I wonder if all that was worth the sore thumbs since the all the prize cars suck. :\

Yeah that one has some wonky physics going on. I tried it with ASM and ended up even slower so I just left it with ABS and TC.

I couldn't disagree more. The menus are idiotic. The UI doesn't flow well at all, and it takes way too many button presses to do something simple. Stuff like buying upgrades for your cars and changing your oil should all be accessed from your garage. You shouldn't have to redeem a ticket to get a car, it should go straight to the garage.

When I press the Circle Button, it should back out of the menu, and not just move the cursor to the close button. I should be able to change the options while in game and in the GT Life mode.

It's as if no though was put into the UI. It's cluttered as hell, and with the loading, the menus are a lot slower than they should be.

Totally agree with you pat it has my nerves gone.. nobody wants to use the stick to go to home or wherever a complete pain in the hole:thumbsdown:

they lotus is really fucked up, the rear wheel can't get grip at all. ABS in this game is a must for me because it locks up even with the slightest brake.

If you're talking about the intermediate Top Gear challenge, it's not the car, it's the tires. I don't know what they're thinking when they're equipping the car with comfort hard tires. Must be some kind of inside joke with the guys at Top Gear I guess.

I haven't tried it personally but people on GTP say changing the brake bias for the Lotus helps as all cars are put on 50/50 for some reason. They market that feature heavily for the DFGT wheel so I suppose it might work if you put more bias up front.

^I've found that it is the tires...not the brakes. I haven't had too many issues with the braking. It's the acceleration and the lack of rear grip that's the problem. 3rd is what I've managed so far but I know 1st is possible.

Now that my B-Spec driver is getting better (up to lvl 16) I'm enjoying it much more. In fact the long races don't bother me. Once he's out in front I just hit the "pace up" button every once in a while and read a book. I've been able to get a lot of reading done in my boring investment book that I normally get tired of after 10 minutes.

Now if I could only win an old race car for the nostalgia race. How are you supposed to raise $4-15million to buy one? I'm almost up to 2mil, but I couldn't imagine grinding to 15.

I finally got a Formula GT from the UCD! It's such a blast to drive...my B-spec Bob absolutely loves it as well.

The Nostalgia Race? That's in the Amateur category, no? If you've got a Countach LP400 in the garage, that'll easily win it...it's the prize car for the A-Spec professional Lamborghini Exclusive. If you wanna spend a mere 100K at the dealership, the Ferrari 512BB '76 will do it too...after boosting the HP a little bit.

No I'm talking about the old race car event under Expert. The only car I have that is fast as them is the 700HP cobra which is almost impossible to drive.

Ahh...in that case, grind to level 21 and do the B-Spec "Like the Wind" series...the prize car is the Toyota 7 Race Car which will easily slay that race. Assuming you don't already have the car to beat Like the Wind, you'll probably need to spend a little cashola--but far less than what it would cost to simply buy an old race car brand new from the dealership. Or if you've already beat the B-Spec Amateur Roadster event, you should have the Mazda Furai Concept which can do it. Otherwise, a race-modded Corvette ZR1 is perfect.

I just don't see the Camaro cutting it. I have an 69 SS and it looks like it would max out at maybe 450-500HP and still weight 1200 lbs. Even with the z28 hits 500hp, it still weighs a crapload. The Cobra weighs 960kg and has over 700HP and still isn't fast enough. I'm working on leveling up B-spec to get that Toyata 1 race car, going to take a while. Almost lvl 19...

i don't have the specific numbers on me right now, but i believe the hp is around ~560 and the weight is ~1050 kg. you have to race modify it. I was able to pull way ahead in the turns, the straight i believe the chapparal and the toyota 7 will gain on you a little bit. But you will be too far ahead for them to catch up

Is there a trick to getting experience? I am at level 21 and struggling to get to 22. I have done almost all the special events except for finishing the karts and the rally's(I'll never do the rally's). I haven't gotten gold on all and never will, I don't have the patience. There is only one or two level 21 races which isn't even in the ballpark enough to level up. Do you really just have to run the same shit over and over again?
