458! I think one of the B spec races give you an F40 as a prize.

Agreed. I bought the 458 for the Ferrari races and have used it for more races than any other car in my garage. I easily made my money back on that one. I need to turn my wireless back on to get the update. It's weird I can get updates but yet can't connect to any of the online servers.... still....

Cool thanks. When I get home from work tonight I'll buy that one.

The money update has helped me so much. It would have taken me forever to afford a Ferrari but I did it in one night of playing. Makes it so much easier.

How are you guys blowing through money so quickly? I think I had over a million by the time I was midway through the amateur races and I am not in expert and still have nearly 3 million.

Im surprised they are increasing the price value. Sucks for those of us who have already completed the special events and cant get any money for them again.

Because I haven't completed the special events or license tests. I want to play the regular A-Spec game before I do any of that but as it was before and going to be again, you basically have to do all that extra stuff because they don't give you enough money or experience to play only A-Spec which sucks.

If you want some extra cash you can exploit the game save system or the birthday gift like the rest of gtplanet lol. :awe:

Personally I think it's way too much hassle signing up for all those PSN accounts. D:

Yea, I find that annoying too. Now I just sign in to shut it up. Wonder if that's what they wanted.

Wow, the OS patch, game patch and installation process is painful. Visiting my parents and was going to load up the game since I'm staying all week. After 90 minutes in and still haven't driven a single race. Sony at least needs to streamline the patch process to something similar to the 360.

The installation really sucks cus it takes forever but I've never had any game or firmware patches ever take that long as people always say they do.

It's something that only certain router owners experience. The 608MB patch took closet o 45 minutes to download I would estimate. That was after the PS3 system update which took 30 minutes.

It's obviously fairly widespread since lots of people complain about slow updates on the PS3.

I've kind of given up on trying to play GT5 even though I'd really like to play it. Here's why:

For one, I can't go back to playing with a controller. I needs me a wheel. Only way to play IMO. I don't have a wheel for PS3. Good wheels (like the logitech g27) are quite expensive. Then, I need someplace to latch the wheel onto where I can race comfortably, which is harder to figure out than it sounds. I might be able to rig up something cheapo just to mount it but in all likelihood it wouldn't be comfortable or feel like a racing cockpit. Then a problem becomes setting up and breaking down the whole wheel/mount situation every time I can play GT5. Kind of a hassle. Can't just leave the wheel and all that stuff out in the living room all of the time. That won't fly. Then I'd need a place to store the wheel and all that, and space I don't have a lot of.

A decent cockpit setup would probably be at least $100. I've been eying lots of different wheels and racing cockpits (custom and retail) for a long time. A lot of handy/smart people have come up with good designs. I've drooled over some setups other people have going. The custom made cockpits don't look too good most of the time, but the issue is money money money.

Another problem is I wouldn't be able to play it online, which is kind of a big reason to get GT5 (I also imagine finding games can be a problem, then of course the lag issues that follow.). I can't upgrade my PS3 firmware for unspecified reasons, therefore I can't logon to PSN. Perhaps there would be another way to go around PSN and still play GT5 online but then I'm even looking at many fewer options for finding a game to join, if I can find any. Probably wouldn't be worth it

I could spend a lot of time in single player modes though I'm sure. GT5 online sounds great on paper but I'm guessing the execution of it leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyways, with all those issues plus the $300-500 I'd have to spend (at least I already have a PS3 ), It's not worth the trouble

Sucks to be you. I'm having a great time playing it on just a controller. I plan on getting a wheel next month but I don't let anything hold me back if I want to play something. Seems like a dumb reason not to play a game you want to.

Anone got any tips for getting gold in the last race of the first set of bonus races? I've tried everything and consistently come in 3-4sec behind the Ford GT.

There's a severe, and I mean severe lack of attention to vehicle sounds. Pick up a game like Forza 3 or GTR 2 and you'll see how in-game sounds should sound. In GT5, a Subaru, which has one of the most distinct engine notes for a common car, sounds like a Civic and nothing like the real thing. I will say the sounds are the best of the series yet, but they still lack pop...realism, they've very unconvincing to me. I would think I'm being too demanding, but other games can get it right, so it's possible. Why can't the virtual museum of a game get it right?
They may not sound like the Subarus you are accustomed to because many idiot Subaru drivers put un-equal length headers on their cars purely to get that unusual noise, knowing full well it makes less power than equal length.

damn how i hate the FWD cars in this game.
I think the 04 Integra Type R is quite brilliant. I was planning on buying the DC2 version because I have personal experience with them and they are typically quite good in games but the newer version appears to be better. Plus, the newer version is a Premium model and can be upgraded with Race Mod.

Anyone notice the weird VW trucks from the 40's? WTF was with that? VW supplied the Nazi army with trucks during WWII, not sure if those are the SAME models, but I think they are... Seems kind of disturbing to include them. Stupid move on part of Sony?
I saw some pictures floating around the net this week of the Nazis celebrating Christmas. It is kind of disturbing that we still celebrate Christmas, knowing that they did as well...

I just got GT5 and PS3 as a gift. First console I've owned since an original Xbox years ago that I barely used. I think the game is great. Do I not have as deep of perspective and experience as many of you? Sure. I played the original GT1 and GT2 over 10 years ago and nothing since. I wasn't waiting around for the game. I'm not comparing every little menu to competitors. I'm taking it as I see it and as someone who is a car guy and races cars for a hobby, I am quite pleased.

Few GT5 questions:

Is there any log of best times for your cars on various tracks? I'd like to know for fact which cars are faster on which tracks and if I am improving over time with a given car.

Do most people use the buttons or the sticks? I was really wary of the sticks but I've gotten fairly used to them now. Any unconventional configurations?

Has anyone considered putting an SSD in the PS3 to decrease load times? They don't bother me too much but it might be a worthwhile upgrade for those who it does.

Does the racing line graphic change depending one what car you are driving or is it one size fits all?

I use the triggers for brake and accelerate, the left stick for steering, and square and cross for shifting up and down.

I'm guessing that someone doesn't know that Subarus come that way from the factory. :hmm:

Should I tell you that they come from the factory with unequal length manifolds, or shall I let you look like an idiot? :hmm:
And that stupid burble isn't anywhere near as pronounced from the factory.

An SSD will help, but not all that much. SSDs in the PS3 don't show the significant gains over HDDs that they do in PCs. Not sure if that one hybrid drive (HDD with several GB of memory) does though. I'd be curious if its any better, probably not.

Actually, after checking, it does seem GT5 benefits quite a bit (about halves load times):
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/gran-turismo-5-loading-times-slashed-with-ssd-install/

Doesn't seem quite as good here though:
http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-load-times-significantly-reduced-by-ps3-ssd-upgrade/

Not sure how performance will hold up over time, or if its the specific SSDs or what. I remember seeing SSD being tested before and it not showing much gains in most situations.

I dunno, seems kinda silly playing the world's best/most realistic driving simulator with a hand-held controller. 80% of people play racing games with a controller though so you wouldn't be in the minority. I think once you play with a good wheel, you can't go back to controller.

Jesus! 39 seconds load times!

That's bad...

Yikes that is pretty ridiculous.

Did anyone see if they were able to get the Xmas gift cars yesterday that were supposed to be Japan only but everyone was supposed to be able to get them? I didn't get to sign-on at all but just signed on right now and nothing.

Alright so I just got this for Christmas and I am beyond underwhelmed. First it prompts for quite the long install proces probably took about 20-30 minutes to get in game.

Then is there any 4:3 support for the menu screens. Everything is so tiny and I realize that a 19 inch CRT is not the best gaming experience but the menus are darn near unnavigable with the small screen size and the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Once I get in game it goes full screen and looks good but a large portion of the GT experience is in the menus...

All the other PS3 games I picked up this holiday work fine on a 4:3 screen but this is just a miserable experience. Oh well guess I'll have to wait to grab a small LCD or hook it up to my monitor.
