The new bonus races are where the money is, some are up to a million credits for gold. Plus they are a lot more fun than the regular Aspec races, even the AI is much better.

At least in the bonus races you more than make up for what you have to spend on a car to run it.

Haha i think ill pass on that! I hated the Yaris. its kind of funny if its a more or less open race (ie just by country or by year not specific make) Ill easily overpower the competition with my car and can make up for my crappy driving. But the single cars races do prove a challenge

I actually had fun buying a Ferrari 458 and fully upgrading it and tuning it. Absolutely rocks now. Best 400k or so i spent. I have found now that im in the "expert" level or whatever money comes much quicker. Just getting the ferrari and going broke and im back up to like 300k. It helps i have cars for the other races i suppose (like the buick 62 special upgraded)

O well enough of a ramble from me!

I agree. I did the same thing, pretty much went broke building the Ferrari and it has repaid itself several times over now. Between Aspec and Bspec it's the best money I have spent, up over 7mil now but nothing to spend it. I'm getting tired of running the same crap over and over again to level up.

i started playing Shift on PC ....its like having a caterax removed. got so tired of gt5's fuzzy graphics. probably not the most accurate sim in comparison but i'm having more fun playing it. Cant wait for Shift 2.
stopped using my G27 wheel though, got too lazy messing with it, so much easier to just pick up the pad.

GT5 has fuzzy graphics??
maybe the normal cars and shadow jaggies but everything else is amazing.

the tracks, backgrounds, premium cars, photo mode.

The game has an amazingly well-polished look about it and has just about the most "coherent" look to it. However it is only running at 720p so jumping on a PC with 1920x1200 resolution is quite a difference. I'd still take GT5 @ 720 though, it's just too pretty

the only real bad graphics ive noticed are the shadows on the cars when you are sitting at the start line. When it goes the look around right before starting the shadow looks blocky at the ends instead of nice and smooth.

The rest looks nice.

Ill have to play around with audio. i know in my ferrari 458 if i am in bumper or cockpit view the sound of the engine comes out of my rear speakers, hence engine behind. Once i go to the external view it goes to coming out of the center speaker. Ill have to see if every car does that or only MR/rear cars.

If you move to chase cam, then the engine is now in front of you and the sound is placed accordingly.

amazing would describe graphics of many PC games. for a console it looks fine, U2 would be amazing for a console but whatever, the textures in gt5 are still fuzzy. they blur depending on distance too and call it whatever you want, but play shift on PC maxed and play GT5 is a huge difference visually. so i started having more fun out of an older, less sim like, game cause its easier on my eyes...so what.

There's infinitely more Standard cars than Premium which hurts the game a lot cus many of the Standards seriously look like they're pulled right from GT4 and not changed at all. Like you said, shadows look like crap 99% of the time, also most of the backgrounds look horrible. There are some good ones, they are only the ones that are in cities with buildings but the tracks with nature (trees, dirt, mountains) they all look ugly and are low-rez which is understandable since the it's too much for the system to handle but most of the backgrounds really do look ugly.

meh... i haven't found it to be a big deal. most of the time, i'm just so focused on the driving aspect of the game.

side question, does anyone play with surround sound? the game offers DD sound but i haven't noticed any audio coming from my surround speakers (5.1 system).

I play with a large 1080p tv with a quality 5.1 surround sound setup. I think it looks and sounds excellent.

Sound wise is kind of meh for me. i have 5.1 (setup in sig). Subwoofer wise theres pretty much nothing so i dont even turn it on. Rear wise i notice it more when there are cars right behind me. I can tell if they are on the right or left behind me. Overall it sounds decent but it also lacks IMO. Things like if im in cockpit mode and lose traction in my left rear tire it would be awesome if the left rear speaker had the squealing sound only. Or maybe it does but i havent noticed it at all if it does.

I also do focus more on the race once it starts than over graphics or sound.

Subwoofer is certainly used. It provides a large thud when I hit a wall or other car that adds to the realism. Missing it would definitely subtract from the experience.

i honestly didnt notice anything significant having it on. Then again i dont hit walls and dont want to have it on just for the rare times i do hit them For normal racing i didnt notice it at all. In fact in the rally (just beginner races) the amp didnt even show getting a signal at all which means no bass But to each their own, just me experience that its meh

could also be my crossovers. My front's have decent bass and i use them at night without the sub so i have them go as low as they can and set the sub crossover lower too. So the bass might just be higher than my crossover so it doesnt go to the sub.

Even with a subwoofer, it sounds nothing like a real collision. It sounds like someone whacked a plastic barrel with a nerf bat

Cars are just plastic anyway. I think the sound is appropriate myself.

Oh come on, you know when cars crash in real life they all just bounce off each other and show no damage at all. After all, this is the most realistic racing game ever created.

I'd much rather have no damage than get pissed off at the AI drivers messing up my car.

Seriously? People are still bitching about this 12 YEARS after the first GT? Guys, the manufacturers most likely stipulated to PD that they don't want realistic damages to their cars. This is what I heard 12 YEARS ago with the first GT.

Of course and people still believe it. Instead of them taking the time to do it and god knows they had the time.

You would think it was appropriate if it said "OUCH" everytime a car bumped the wall.

What exactly is that supposed to mean?

I never said that the contact in the game is realistic. But given what's there (a very questionable damage model), I think the sound is fine.

I seriously do not get the fascination with the continual hate on this game. I don't even know why I keep reading this thread, we're 650+ posts in and we're still bitching about the sound when cars hit each other? Didn't we do that a month ago?

Time to do what? They don't get the license if they put the manufacturer's car in a bad light.

Cus no other car games have had licensed cars in them and damage..........

They have damage in this game but only in high levels so is that putting them in bad light?
