Especially with a slightly cheaper and faster 6990 without a day one resume of having components on the card incinerate leaving you with a $750 paperweight rma hassle.

Bolded = Incorrect. The reference Asus is 699.99 on the Egg right now. The cheapest 6990 is 709.99 so it would be the 590 that is slightly cheaper.

To be fair, the 6990 has free shipping, with $8 shipping for the 590. So I'd say they are the same price...

Last I checked the XFX was $735... Would I pay $35 more to flick a switch that turns my card into a jet engine? No.

I'd rather have the card that keeps it's warranty after overclocking.

According to sweclockers the 590 looses its warranty if oc'ed too... To bad.

"Den som planerar att överklocka bör dessutom se till att ha god ventilation i chassit och vara medveten om att garantin inte gäller om frekvenserna höjs över specifikationerna."

You can translate it yourself(swedish) but the short version is:
You need good ventilation in the chassi and that the warranty is void if spesifications are exceeded.

No bonus for nVidia there.

These guys have been claiming a lot, I'm surprised no other review site has mentioned anything like that...

You're using a GTX460 with a dual core, I don't think you'd be buying a 590 much less a 6990, just blind loyalty for a brand I guess.

And me having different priorities than to buy expensive hardware brings what to this discussion? Oh, right, nothing. Thank you for showing your true immature ways.

So an XFX 6990 that you can overclock without worry of warranty issues or pulling a Three Mile Island on you... good choice out of the options available.

I'm sorry; but that was downright hilarious! But, you're right. XFX did step up to the plate on this one. AMD was a dumb on the whole warranty aspect. However, I digress; and hey look, I can see it from a gamers perspective and not someone with tunnel vision. :sneaky:

Which is why I don't get why you're defending it that much, it doesn't affect you in any way except that it's hurting your preferred brand's reputation or something.

I'm not defending anything, I'm telling it how it is. Can't see that, I guess you should re-read...

Just to make it clear, I wouldn't pay anywhere near $700 for a video card. For the sake of conversation though, I'd pay $35 more for a card that can O/C and you won't blow it up if you do. Especially one that needs to be O/C to reach it's potential. It's not like you can just go out and pay $35 more for the next model up.

The real deal, IMHO, in the high end, is crossfired 6950's. You can get 2 of them for $490AR. About the same price as a single 580. Unlock and O/C (or just O/C, really) and they'll walk away from the 590 and keep up with anything the 6990 can dish out.

Now this I can agree with. Nvidia really needs to step up with their SLI scaling to compete in the 2+ card category, and they also need to get off their asses and add 3-monitor support for 1 card. I would like to add a second monitor (for Excel/CAD work) + keep my HDTV hooked up, but cannot on my GTX 460 . But that is for another discussion... I don't even have another PCI-E slot to hook up another card, because when I built this rig three years ago multi-card setups were just starting out and I didn't think it would catch on. Well, it did.

Read it and weep.

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2235009&postcount=182

excerpt from the nVidia bulletin:

"any overclocking/overvoltaging can void your manufacturer's product warranty."

And Bta is not happy:

"Now NV is hiding behind the warranty void bullshit instead of admitting this card is unfit to be an "enthusiast" card, and is more of a something for people too faint hearted for overclocking that they'll pay for their overclocking-incompetence with buying a faster card that doesn't can't overclock. "

Keys is going to work triple overtime tomorrow, no more 3dsurround for him.

GTX590 overclocking
HD6990 kicks sand in its face, throws it to the ground and wee wees all over it

This is a needlessly inflammatory posting that will only serve to escalate an otherwise deteriorating situation.

Please keep your posts on-topic, productive, and non-inflammatory.

I've definitely had mostly positive experiences with NVIDIA cards and I'm pleased with my GTX 580, but I wouldn't buy one of these.

Just read kyle. Looks like yet another less than interesting launch. Quiet but slow and hot.
Didn't even win the single card performance championship.

Still this is from the guy with 1 1080p monitor and has no need for any of these dual monsters.

Don't worry, the green cavalry has arrived.

Im not worried about the green team. I refused buying Nvidia for years. The 570 is my first Nvidia card since the 6800gt. If the 570 didnt fit my needs so well I would have a 6970. It was hard giving Nvidia my money. I just thought personal insults were against the rules here but three different posters in three different threads since I joined have called me dumb, crazy, and whatever else for defending the 570 (not Nvidia) against FUD. Thats all I'm worried about.

Insults and personal attacks ARE against the rules, but you need to report them instead of bringing them up in the middle of a technical thread.

This conversation you are having with 3DVagabond is a thread-derail, you need to broach the topic in the correct venue (Moderator Discussions of Reported Posts).

My point was that sort of retaliatory posting is not limited to one company's fans. It's hard to stay out of the exchanges too. Usually some *marketing type posts a lie or half-truth, or omits some pertinent info and the next thing you know, you're taking one side or the other. The best thing to do is go along with it, don't take it personal, and try an have fun. You know the old saying, "When in Rome...".

*can't say it's an absolute fact there are marketers here, but it's the only logical explanation for what some of these people post.

The 267.84's are out and has enhanced protection like the retail cards should use.

So retail cards will have greater power throttling (lower performance) than the cards that were given to reviewers.

Real nice.

From [H]:
We truly thought the GTX 590 was going to make the Radeon 6990 look bad, but the fact of the matter is that NVIDIA made the 6990 look that much better. The GTX 590 is not the "World's Fastest Single Card Solution" as stated on our page 1 slides; the Radeon HD 6990 is very much retaining that title. Hail to the King, baby!
Don't worry sweetums. Retail cards selling today will not have this worry. __________________
