The betrayals in Arena are complete BS. If I get the rockets and someone on the other team wounds me, my teammate will finish me off and pick them up. There is no real incentive to win, so nobody plays as a team. I can't stand the lack of teamplay in a team game. They have effectively cut down all the boosters and cheaters by making the game worthless to play.

They need to bring back the H2 ranking system for ranked games. They can easily tweak it to make it much better. This new system is beyond broken.

Honestly, the H3 system worked well (I don't remember how the H2 system worked), the only thing was that it was a tad bit confusing with playlist separate rankings.

Other than that, I wasn't really impressed with anything. The story of Halo is pretty good, but I think Bungie is horrible at telling it. I don't know if it's just how they tell the story or they just don't give enough detail, but I've always found that when I finish a Halo game, I'm really not 100% on what I just did or what all happened. There's just something about how it's presented that it doesn't immediately click with me. I've heard this complaint from others before, so I'm not the only one.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree... 100%. Half the time, I have a helluva time trying to figure out who is talking (especially when everyone has their helmets on), and the other half is trying to figure out what they're saying. Gah, I hated Kat's accent.

Not only that, the storytelling sucks in general. Going back on it and reading people's impressions on the story, it makes perfect sense now. But, while playing it Bungie throws you in new location after new location with little backstory. Perhaps I wasn't paying attention, but the storytelling could have been better. But, that's just Bungie's style, and it's been that way with all the Halos.

h2 ranking was fine for the most part.


as you won you ranked up. you lost you ranked down. eventually you leveled out and play people with the similar rank..

however each playlist had its own rank.. which cause some uneven matches when the great players started playing in a new playlist...

I didn't get a chance to play H2 but from what my friends told me, if there wasn't cheating in H2, it would've been the best Halo so far.

There was really only cheating at the 40+ levels. That is why Bungie scrapped the idea because of cheating and boosters. Then, they scrapped the H3 ranking because of new accounts. So, they just removed any kind of meaningful ranking system and now I get to "have fun" destroying guests...

And when the MLG playlist comes out (which is supposed to be competitive), it will be full of quitters and people without mics. I predict Reach will die when Black Ops comes out.

so that just makes them on par with any other fps out there.. there is no ranking system in badcompany or and cod game.

I plan on shifting towards Black Ops unless it sucks total balls, which I doubt. The level cap that Bungie put on everyone was a terrible idea, it made the game incredibly boring and repetitive when there is no longer any gain.

Were there no prestiging on CoD I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much, the fun of the game for me isn't in the winning and such, it's in starting from scratch and earning my gear. Heck, if I could just play levels 1-50 over and over I would.

Since I hit the level cap in Reach my interest has dropped noticably.

Were there no prestiging on CoD I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much, the fun of the game for me isn't in the winning and such, it's in starting from scratch and earning my gear. Heck, if I could just play levels 1-50 over and over I would.

Same here, Kabob. I like to win and have fun with my friends, but I also like to build and progress towards something.

If there is no end-game after hitting the level cap, I can see a game getting boring, unless you just like the gameplay that much. I'm one who needs the meta-game in order to keep interest in a title after beating it or playing a few rounds online. The advent of achievements and multiplayer systems as found in the newer FPS titles has really helped me get a lot more bang for my buck out of games.

i guess im just a sucker for gameplay then. rpg elements in fps are just added stuff. thats the main thing i hate about cod is unlocking weapons. just give me everything.

i guess im more on the side of halo type fps where the weapons are on the ground and you pick them up... that or teamfortress like class based selection.

+1, the "meta games" as you eloquently put it are what keep me playing. The play time of CoD 4 and MW2 wildly surpasses any other game I've played because of the RPG elements. On top of that the prestiging is great because it never feels impossibly far to my next level, as it would in Reach when I've got to earn 4 million cR's between later ranks.

I'm the complete opposite. I like it better when if you want another weapon in the middle of a match, then you kill a guy that has it and take it off his dead body.

I haven't gotten the game yet but I honestly don't understand all the drama over leveling up and customizing armor. This is Halo, not Dress-Up Party.

Which is why I don't care about it "as much" with Halo, but I still like the levelling system. With CoD it's fantastic.

The Halo 2 team win based system made for amazing high level play and kept the playing field extremely level. If you won you went up and if you lost you went down. It was simple and the flaws with the Xbox and the Live system at the time allowed cheats and exploits. Those problems have since been fixed and the days of a team based ranking should be brought back.

Sadly, everyone wants this XP grind out the next level no matter how skilled you are rank crap.

So they basically went to a system like with Call of Duty where you get XP no matter what, and it just takes longer if you're not as good? That sucks... then again, I pretty much always played social playlists in Halo 3 anyway so my ranking never mattered anyway. My Halo 3 profile is skill level 12 with about 100 ranked games, and ten times that number of social games.

Besides, despite my being a lowly level 12, it seems like every time I play ranked I end up dying a lot anyway. Even to people lower skilled than me. The parity ends up being about the same whether I'm in ranked or social.

I like everyone starting with the same weapon and power weapons being on the ground leading to battles over who can attain them. I like the back and forth offense/defense when one team has the power weapons and/or choke points.

I have a good time with COD, but I enjoy team games more. COD is just a bunch of players split into 2 groups with each person doing his own thing. I hardly ever saw teamwork being used. I think its mostly because of how easy it is to kill or get killed. By the time you spot someone you are either dead or have already killed them. Theres not much point in calling out their position in most cases.

In regards to unlocking stuff, I enjoy it but I will never be a fan of Prestige mode. Theres nothing more annoying than unlocking something you've already unlocked in my opinion. What would be cool is if they opened up newer maps for players as they max out or reach higher ranks.

With random players that's exactly how it is. With a good team though you can employ excellent tactics.

I prefer CoD but it's different strokes for different folks, and that's a good thing. Competition in the gaming market = developers striving for excellence so people will play their game.

I actually plan on selling Reach next week since I know that BO will dominate my time for several months, but I will buy it again when it drops in price (aka, when all the people who bought Reach ditch it for CoD). I figure at $39 trade in credit from Amazon, if I can get it again at half that in a few months I'll be happy.

i just wish they people would create a better skill based matchmaking..

like in cod... at least create a matching where rank level is within everyone else.. nothing is worse then going into a game as a lvl 1 where everyone is lvel 40+. i understand the weapons are fine in the begining but perks and what not create someunfair balances..

matching like 15% up or down on rank. if you are 30 u play with 25-35 group.

something like that would level out some of the matches.. and i understand that not all 40+ are good. cause anyone can get there with time.

Really they need to look at kill ratio and win ratio more than levels. I played a game on MW2 yesterday where a 1st prestige lvl 20 guy was ahead of 2/3 of the other players. Rank means nothing.

i was using rank more for balance of weapons and perks available not skll
