Do you have the game installed to hard drive? I haven't noticed any real lag on FFM

The next time there's a grunt challenge, do Gruntpocalypse in Score Attack. Score Attack counts as Firefight Matchmaking, and I don't think I've ever NOT seen Gruntpocalypse as an option in each round of voting.

Yes I do. It has nothing to do with that, or my TV setup, or even my network setup. Regular matchmaking is totally lag-free for me unless there's someone with a bad connection who keeps jumping around. Single-player is totally lag-free as well. But in Firefight Matchmaking there is a slight delay between when I input something and when it happens. It's most apparent if I sidestep back and forth really quickly - it always lags behind slightly. And it lags by about the same amount at all times, throughout the match - I don't get lag spikes.

Occasionally there is no lag, presumably when I'm the host. That happens if everyone else leaves the game or if I just get lucky enough to be selected as the host.

It's not quite bad enough to make it unplayable, but I never really do Firefight matchmaking unless I really want to complete a daily challenge. It's definitely annoying and it makes me not want to play anything other than Rocketfight, where extreme precision isn't that necessary.

And I'm not the only one. Maybe you have a really good connection so you're usually selected as the host, but do some Google searching and a ton of people have the exact same problem. It is entirely the fault of the netcode in Firefight - for whatever reason, I guess Bungie decided they didn't need to give Firefight the same treatment as regular multiplayer when it comes to eliminating lag.

I honestly don't remember the last time I actually played a game of Firefight. It's not worth it. I could fight for kills I need for challenges with 3-4 other players,or I can do a few rounds of Score Attack/Sniper Attack/Gruntpocalypse and get all the kills myself. Plus, each round nets me around 1000 credits, so it's worth it.

Regular Firefight is pretty bad. Rocketfight and Sniperfight are a lot more fun since you get unlimited ammo for any weapon you pick up and you actually start with decent weapons.

New maps are out, didn't get a chance to play them though when I was on Arena or Team Slayer. Also, last night it seemed extra laggy, not sure if it is because of the new DLC or coincidence.

For now, the maps are in a separate DLC playlist. The new playlist is 6v6 instead of 4v4 and incorporates just about every game mode. Which is bad news if you really like objective games since most people vote for slayer, but it's fine if you just want to learn the maps.

I have to say though, I was getting rocked last night, both in the DLC playlist and in Team Slayer. I wonder if the map pack brought back some of the more hardcore players who had been playing Black Ops for the past month, I don't know.

The maps are pretty good. I like Breakpoint the most, then Anchor 9, and then Tempest. Breakpoint seems kind of similar to Rat's Nest on Halo 3 - it has an outside ring, lots of vehicles, and a multi-level interior portion that lets you take a shortcut from one side of the ring to the other.

They also have a new firefight variant where you can play as an elite against the spartan team. Havent tried it but sounds cool.

Yeah, I wanted to try that last night but I waited a long time for a match before I gave up because I didn't have a whole lot of time to play. Guess I'll try again tonight.

I've been thinking about playing some reach lately too. I kept my copy so I'm just waiting for the right moment. My playing time has been a little more limited lately so I've been trying to dedicate it all to black ops

Are the Noble maps worth grabbing?

I've had the most fun with Breakpoint. It's a nice big vehicle map with a ring around the outside and tunnels and buildings going through the middle.

Anchor 9 is pretty fun too, lots of variation there. There's a low-grav area, big force fields, and plenty of enclosed and open areas.

Tempest is probably my least favorite. Too snipey and random for me.

They're all decent but it really comes down to whether you are cool with spending $10 for 3 maps. I was getting a bit tired of the included maps and wanted some extra variety.
