My biggest complaint thus far is voting for the game type. I don't like that it defaults to the first option because the first option is frequently Stockpile which I got sick of very quickly. I'd prefer nothing was selected by default and you had to actually select what game type you wanted to play so we wouldn't have everyone off getting a drink or going to the bathroom overriding those who actually have an opinion.

I would also like to see the loadouts having different starting weapons but that's a very minor complaint.

Overall, I enjoy playing the game although I haven't spent as much time with the new weapons as I would prefer. It would be nice if I could set up a custom game so that I could just mess with the new weapons for a bit and figure how the layouts of the maps.

Well, there are only two maps right now so you'll figure them out pretty quickly. I was confused playing Sword Base on Friday night but that might have partly been because I was playing in split-screen with my son.

I played again last night by myself and got the map down.

I just wish I could change the color of my cross-hairs. They keep blending in with the background and targets making it hard to know if I'm pointing right at an enemy or not.

I completely agree. Perhaps it was ignorance speaking, but I could've sworn the whole point of loadouts were to pick your weapon and armor abilities...

I'm a little of the mindset that the jetpack breaks the game. It's hard enough trying to focus on what's ahead of me and behind me, now I have to worry about people coming on top of me? ugh. At least, make the jetpack duration lower, and it'd be better.

If the jetpack duration was any lower, you wouldn't be able to fly anywhere. I think the jetpack is pretty damn perfect as is. With the two maps we've been shown, there are plenty of places you can run around without too much fear of being dropped down on. Plus, it almost completely rids the game of campers up high. There no longer is one point of entry to high spots.

Not to mention you are COMPLETELY vulnerable when you're flying around, so I think it's pretty balanced (and awesome).

I just played a couple more games and am having a lot of fun. I think the new armor abilities are all awesome if in the hands of the right person. I'm getting a bit reliant on the jetpack. When I wasn't using it I found myself hitting the left bumber and wondering why i wasn't taking off.

Remember, this is just the start of the beta and they are doing just two maps with a limited set of game types. As they open the beta up, more loadouts are supposed to become available with different weapons. At least, that's what I think I recall reading.

I'm hoping to see at least one more map... something with vehicles.

Check out the start of the thread with the link to IGN. There's going to be at least two more maps and one of them, Boneyard, is going to be Bungie's biggest map yet and include vehicles.

its a matter of opinion but id disagree, the bxr, dbl/trpl/quadshotting, autoscoping shit in halo 2 got old really really fast . the fact that they fixed it in H3 was a godsend

Halo 2 was amazing in it's day... I had more Halo 2 LAN parties in High School than I could count, however I've always felt that every Halo game has been iteratively better, if for no other reason than it's different. I do know a few people who would agree with the statement that Halo 2 is superior to all though.

Wow, that makes me feel old. Halo 2 is what KILLED the LAN parties for me. Halo 1 required it, and was effing amazing. We'd have epic KotH games, CTF, with monster kill counts, etc. Halo 2 had Live and no one wanted to put the effort into LAN parties as often with being able to play online. I played my fair share, but with the lag and lack of pistol it was frustrating. I've played just under 2,000 games in Halo 3 over the years, which isn't nearly as much as before.

Reach has been painful to play. I wasn't thrilled at all about it the first night, and gave it a second chance last night. I played three games and quit to watch baseball. This will be the first Halo game I don't buy for myself. I'll let one of my friends get it and just borrow it to play through the campaign. Unless something crazy happens this could very well be the end of my Halo multiplayer career. Kudos to Bungie, though, they kept me around for 10 years.

Yea where I lived Broadband wasn't terribly prevalent at the time, so there were a good number of people (myself included) that only had dial-up and were more than willing to throw together a LAN.

I think my top things to fix in the beta so far are:

1) The targeting reticule. It's not defined well enough and is hard to see even when it is over a target. This is especially true when playing split-screen. Needs to either be thicker or bolder.

2) A little more varied color scheme on Sword Base. After playing Powerhouse, Sword Base just looks very drab and it is easy to get lost. There are numbers noting which side is A and which side is B but they almost blend in with the walls and are tough to see in the heat of the battle.

3) Game Type voting should start out at 0 for all game types instead of all votes going to the first one in the list. Doesn't seem right to have a game type approved because three of four people in the room may not be paying attention to what is going on.

Any others?

the AR is too god damn weak!

i forget which AT member i was playing with last night but we both commented on it also sorry statslab for just vanishing, power went out, thunderstorms are fun. however unloading an entire clip into someones upper torso and then meleeing them to only see them not die is wrong

I agree with voting starting at 0

Yeah, it actually kind of felt like Gears in that respect. Takes alot of bullets to take someone down.

I usually end up using a grenade to weaken their shields first.

The AR is weak, but they either need to beef it up a little for the close range or weaken the pistol at that range.

I've notice when using the pistol the ridicule is hard to see, but I seem to have gotten a feel for where it should be when using it. Not sure if they did that on purpose but I don't remember that problem with earlier Halo games.

I haven't played the beta since the hour of game time I spent with it the day it came out. I'd like to at least get a few rounds of Invasion in before it's over.

Invasion sounds awesome, cant believe I have to go start a 13 hour shift right before they add it in.

General feelings from my ~13 hours played (almost exclusively in Arena Slayer) are positive. Definitely a step up from Halo 3. I like the new loadouts, and even though I've been sticking mostly with Sprint (reminds me of CoD which I've spent a lot more time with over the last couple years than Halo games), all of the power modes seem very useful and balanced.

I think the power armor can be a little imbalanced at times, mostly when there is lag though.

Jetpack is both very powerful but has an obvious downside, being that you are an easy target for anyone with a pistol or rifle.

Active Camo actually seems a little weak to me unless used within a coordinated group. Its not that hard to figure out the general area of the person from all the moving dots, you aren't completely invisible (like active camo in the previous Halo games), and for those who haven't tried using it themselves yet, any time you activate the camo your own radar fills up with enemy dots as well.

Sprint's benefits are obvious - gives you a little survivability when you need to make a quick escape, and you absolutely pwn face with the hammer or sword. Shotgun I find its actually detrimental at times because of the time it takes to come out of sprint and then fire.

I'm anxious to play Invasion and test out some of the new loadouts, and see the Elite ability Evade. I was a little disappointed that the loadouts in Slayer mode basically changed nothing but your ability and not your weapons, I'm hoping Invasion makes up for it and maybe when they open up more map types in Slayer different maps will have different loadouts available.

Game has gone Gold (so says the Queasy!), I pre-ordered it yesterday. I've never really been a big Halo fan (my favorite series to hate on by far) but Reach actually looks pretty interesting. I like the addition of armor powers (seems like they've been well balanced now), the ability to dodge, etc.

Went with the Amazon deal and will put my $20 of credit towards Call of Duty: Black Ops if it turns out decent...we'll see.

Also thought this was pretty slick:
Reach pre-Beta release video that I'd never seen

this is definintely a day 1 purchase for me. the commercials for this are starting to get me hype.

hasn't been an FPS i enjoyed in a long long time, since COD4.
