I managed to snag myself a copy of ODST at the rental store last night, so assuming all I need is the campaign disc and no codes or anything of the sort, then I'm ready to go for Monday. I have it for a week and have to pay $1 per day to keep it any longer, so I'll end up paying $10-$15 to be in this thing, but whatever. I can't have the guys at work giving me shit because I'm the only one not playing.

I did start on the solo campaign last night, and I'm quite impressed with it. I completely ignored ODST because it didn't interest me at all, but so far, I'm liking the story and characters MUCH more than any Halo game before already. The voice acting is superb IMO and I like the way they are telling the story thus far.

Like somebody said above, I felt pretty burned out on the Halo franchise after Halo 3, but now I'm completely stoked about Reach all of a sudden and I don't know why. I guess I'll find out Monday if that is justified or not.

I wish there was a solid release time so I knew if it was worth staying up for, but since Bungie says "late morning PST" and I'm EST I'm assuming it won't be out til 7 or 8 am at the earliest.

Really I don't know anything about the game... I've heard it's supposed to bring some fairly sizable and change usually piques my interest. I've always been a fan of Halo (and especially the quality of the games Bungie always puts out, something Epic and IW can learn a little from), so I'm hopeful about what they can do with this one.

I looked some things up and I like the whole "accessory pack" that you choose... I can see some rather interestin' strategeries setup with the "huge roadblock" one when you got someone backing you up.

Could somebody clear something up for me? I had read a couple of places that all you need is the single-player disc in order to play the Reach beta. Now a guy at work is telling me that I need a key that came in the retail case. I rented ODST this past weekend with the thoughts that I'd be playing the beta, but now I'm not sure (I never can tell if this guy at work knows what he's talking about).

So, which is it?

A.) No key required, the "play beta" option will appear automatically on the main menu of ODST when the beta is ready to go. Selecting that option will initiate the download and let me play.

or

B.) A key is included in the retail box that will let you download the beta through the marketplace first, at which point you can then launch it from within ODST.

A. There is no key associated with the beta. It is just tied to the campaign disc of ODST.

So, you got your hands on a copy of Halo 3: ODST and now you want to play the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta. You’re in luck. Here’s what you’ll need to join in our Beta test on May 3rd, 2010.

* Halo 3: ODST’s Campaign Disc
* A Valid Xbox LIVE Gold Subscription
* A Broadband Internet Connection
* Approximately 1.2 Gigabytes of Hard Drive Disk Space


To Download the Beta:

* Select “Play the Beta” from the main menu
* Follow the onscreen prompts and instructions
