i had something similar to that but wasnt an assaination. i jumped off the top of the spire and aimed at helicopter and hijacked it. i smiled.

Bungie: Over 16,000 years combined between all Halo: Reach players within a one month period....


Okay, Halo Reach is popular. Everyone gets that. But how often do you get to see a game's popularity quantified in such stark figures? Yesterday Bungie revealed that in its first month of release, gamers have already spent 16,445 years of total time playing Halo Reach.

This stat comes with a bunch of others in Bungie's most recent Weekly Update. Among the other astounding numbers:

-784 million player-games have been played (each game is counted once per player)
-544 billion in-game credits have been earned
-about 4 million screenshots have been uploaded
-almost 6 million total files have been uploaded

In addition to the stats, Bungie revealed some more interesting news for Reach's future. With the Noble Map Pack DLC on the way, they announced that unlike with previous Halo titles, DLC maps will not be put into separate playlists. Instead, the matchmaking will intelligently segment players who have the new maps so that everyone can still jump into the same playlists together.

Bungie also announced that they will be raising the current multiplayer level cap when the community completes 117 million daily and weekly challenges. According to internal estimates, the Reach community should hit this milestone in November, at which point players will finally be able to progress past the rank of Lt. Colonel Grade 3. New armor will also be made available in the Armory at this time.

So yes, with all of that exciting news for the future, that 16,000 years of Halo Reach is sure to continue growing. Cue the snarky comments about how we could have put that energy toward curing cancer, etc.

So this was by far my favorite of the Halo games... all of it was fantastic! The multiplayer so far is okay... But I think I just need to warm up to it a bit

Wowsah. I am so glad they're not making playlists exclusive to DLC, that's one of my bigger gripes with Halo 3.

So this was by far my favorite of the Halo games... all of it was fantastic! The multiplayer so far is okay... But I think I just need to warm up to it a bit

Absolutely agree. I've not been a fan of any of the other games, I'm really enjoying Reach though.

besides armour abilities this is pretty much what halo has been since halo 1..

what is so special about this one?

I know it's essentially Halo, but there's a bunch of little things that add up to make it a more enjoyable experience for me (a non-hardcore Halo guy):
  • Daily Challenges - Something to strive for every day
  • Credit System - I know all the Armory stuff is cosmetic but it's fun to unlock new gear.
  • Credit-Based Ranks - Once again, instead of "You've hit skill level 19, you ranked up in this one playlist" there's a physical number you can use to track your progress in all playlists.
  • Armor Abilties - Instead of Halo 3's "you found this one powerup that you can use," you choose an ability that works with your play style. I like.
  • Assassinations - Utterly useless but cool to watch.
  • Better Lobby System - Connecting with friends is so easy.
I'm sure there's even more stuff, that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I think the thing that gets me (same was CoD) is that it's moved from "just another FPS" to the CoD mix of FPS w/RPG elements (ranking up, unlocking new gear, etc).

On another note, I hit the level cap this morning. Now I get to play the waiting game...

o Removed the following gametypes from Hemorrhage due to the size of the map with only 8 players:

o Modified respawn zones for Slayer gametypes
* Hemorrhage

o Respawn timers for all Warthogs on Hemorrhage should now be 120 seconds


Gametypes

* CTF
o All CTF gametypes should now have a player respawn of 10 seconds
o All Classic CTF gametypes now feature Flag At Home To Score and Touch Return
o Flag At Home To Score disabled for all non-Classic CTF gametypes
o Modified Flag Return and Flag Reset times:
+ 1 Flag on Small maps use 10 second return and 30 second reset
+ All other CTF gametypes use 30 second return and 45 second reset
* Assault
o Assault gametypes now have a player respawn time of 10 or 15 seconds depending on the map


In addition to the Playlist changes, we’re also introducing two new Forge Map Variants with this update, Cliffhanger and Atom. Atom will be on display in the Team Slayer, Team Snipers, Team Objective, Multi Team, and Big Team Battle Playlists. Cliffhanger will be found in Rumble Pit, Team Slayer, Team SWAT, and Team Objective.

Joph and Kabob, I haven't been avoiding you guys on purpose .

I'm trying to get the achievement for beating the campaign Legendary Solo, so that's pretty much all I've been playing lately. Hopefully I can knock that out this weekend, and get some more multiplayer in with you guys.

OK, not really. How long have you been trying that achievement? How far along are ya? There were a few parts that were a bit frusterating but overall I didn't think it was too bad.

Not nearly as annoying as the achievement for assassinating an elite from above, that thing was straight up broken. I bet you I tried that 300+ times.

lol last night I went through and removed a TON of people I think I have 4 friends now

I'v been playing with a friend over in Japan (USMC) and we never get any lag
I was sure surprised!

OK, not really. How long have you been trying that achievement? How far along are ya? There were a few parts that were a bit frusterating but overall I didn't think it was too bad.

Probably about a week and half off and on. It hasn't really been that hard, it's just taking the time to do it. All I have left now is the last two missions (The Package and Pillar of Autumn).

The most frustrating part to me was the space battle in Long Night of Solace, guess I'm just not that great at dog-fighting. Flying behind the ship you're defending helped a lot.

I'm not looking forward to defending the lab on The Package, but it seems like hijacking a Banshee makes that a lot easier.

I love flight sims, the space-fight part was a breeze for me. Defending the lab isn't too bad, you've got several NPC teammates who can't be killed. Just stay back and kill enemies at long range.

Really the worst part of the game is the very last part of the last mission (Holdout), the last level as a whole was rough, but doable.

You're right Joph and I enjoyed 3 a lil bit, but Never played 1 or 2 online really. With Reach, it's just moar, moar, moar of the same and I really like the moar, moar, moar that they've added to it.

My only gripe is that team slayer is only 4v4 when in 3 it was 5v5 (social slayer). They should've bumped it up to 6v6 on this one, and up the kill count to like 60 or 65 per game.

haha nothing to be jealous of. Just work.

I'll be on tonight in a little while if you are on, got to at least get an hour or so of play time in.

Today's challenges are really easy and worth alot of points.

-Kill 200 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with the pistol (3500)
-Kill 88 enemies in a single Firefight MM game (1000)
-Kill 90 enemies in any game mode (1000)
-Complete a Firefight MM game without dying (500)

I got all 4 in around 20 mins on Gruntpacolypse.

BTW, I noticed there's a new map in Firefight, I should have tried it but my goal was to knock out those challenges in two games so I didn't risk it. It's the "defend the enterance to the lab" area from the game.

Nice, I'm looking forward to getting those easy credits. Is the name of the new map Glacier? If you can jetpack on the top of the entrance to the lab like in Campaign, it should be pretty easy on Firefight.

I dont' remember what the name was, for staying alive my two favorite maps are Corvette (duh) and even better, Outpost. On Outpost you don't hold up in a building, you go to the ground level and hang out to the left of the center building. No one can sneak up on you (no enemies go behind the building) and you're right next to the weapon locker for more ammo.

Thank goodness they removed infection from the playlist. Is it just me or is that mode horribly broken on some maps?
