It was good, but not worth it for me to go to the midnight showing. It felt a little long, and really wasn't able to pull together the story-line well enough to make it fully entertaining. I really liked it, but not enough for a midnight showing, and not quite as much as I enjoyed the fourth installment.

Overall, recommended, but not a real winner.

It was alright. I caught the midnight showing as well. There was more applause for Die Hard / Transformers than this one... actually there was hardly any applause at all. I was annoyed at some of the stuff they left out/changed (Fred & George's exit, statues at the end, not long enough in the hall of mysteries, who ratted them out, etc).

It fits in well with the rest of the HP movies though, for what that's worth (roughly as good as the rest of them).

As someone who only read the first 2 or 3 books (can't remember), the movie wasn't that good. I felt that the pacing was very inconsistent and didn't have a solid movement throughout the movie. I understand that there's a lot to cram in and a lot that was left out, but certain characters needed to be introduced/developed better as they had rather large roles in the final battle.

Overall, it was kind of disappointing...a solid C, I'd say.

that fight is the biggest problem I have with the book/movie...

4 very inexperienced teenage wizards (Neville, Luna, Ginny, Ron - subjective on this one, but I don't think Ron has been as involved as the other two in the previous fights) and Harry/Hermoine up against the group of Death Eaters led by L Malfoy (who I would assume be fairly powerful)???

hard cup of tea to swallow...

I thought this movie was by far the best of the bunch...BUT if you have not read the book, you would probably not like it and be confused.

This movie stayed true to the book much more than the others and crammed in lots of small scenes that would not make sense if you don't already know what is going on.

There were plenty of scenes where the dialog was taken directly from the book and I loved it.

My only real gripe is they just didn't do the ending scene with Dumbledore and Harry in his office justice. I felt that was the best written chapter in all of the books and my personal favorite and they basically cut it from the movie. They could have just kept the exact dialog as it was a perfect moment for the 2 of them.

Also, this is coming from someone who just did not like movie 4 at all...I thought they butchered the book in that one.

I've got tickets to see it on Saturday in IMAX. I wanted to re-read the book before watching the movie but I certainly don't have time and I think it's probably just as well. I do need to get started re-reading the rest of the series before book 7 comes out (yeah, like I'll finish in time).

Oh and by the way, I was at the midnight showing, and the theater originally had 5 screen available for the showing, but since it is a DLP theater, they could show it on more screens I guess, so they opened it up to 12 screens I believe, and every one was packed. So at 2:30 when the movie ended, there were a couple thousand people trying to leave the parking lot making it a 10-20 minute wait to leave. Crazy how many people went to this.

I agree, I'm a Cuaron fan as well. And saying that since I haven't read the book, some scenes/parts might not have made sense makes it even worse. As a film maker you cannot construct a movie basing it on the viewer's prior knowledge of the material. If it can't stand on its own then you have failed. The pacing really annoyed me and the director seemed to just gloss over what should have been a rather considerable loss in battle. (I'm trying to be as vague as possible as to not give spoilers) And another new character was just thrown in there with apparently great power but no background, no story.

boo. The Simpsons Movie will probably have a more cohesive storyline and better transitions - and that's sad.

Saying this as someone who hasn't read the book... it seamed Malfoy hinted that he "allowed them" to win the fight to bait them down by that death portal thingy...
