Not a chance in hell of getting it from the library in any reasonable amount of time.

I remember waiting for a Grisham book to come out & then ending up 20-30 places down the waiting list at the local library.

Harry Potter is much, much bigger than Grisham could ever hope to be.

Our local library has like 30 copies of the the book. If not just borrow it from someone else? Everyone and their grandmother has it.

Tomorrow night. Or Saturday midnight.

I ordered mine on Buy.com, but with cheap shipping, so who knows when I'll get it.

I'm not in a rush since I recently got the Complete Peanuts Volumes 2 and 3.

i thought it was tonight?

edit: pub date july 18, so i guess it is tomorrow night.

i thought 12:00am was the next day, and not the previous? or is it 12:00:01am is the next day?

I've started reading the first Harry Potter book today, not bad but not great. Of course I am only about 50 pages in.

The only book I'd wait in line at midnight for right now is the next George R.R. Martin novel in the Song of Fire & Ice series. Maybe an authentic Frank Herbert novel too (if he rose from the dead), or another Cinq-Mars thriller by John Farrow. Books can definitely be worth the wait.

12am is the next day. Saturday midnight = July 16, which is the release date.

The first book is a very simple storyline on purpose (so that young kids can read them). The characters aren't complex either. Simple good/evil stuff. With each book, the story gets a little darker and the characters get a little more complex.

FWIW, I like the 4th book the best.

4th is awesome, but the 5th seems to be much better in most respects, much more like real life than the rest combined. kinda like the 5th ep of starwars

What? You've never bought (music or books) or seen (movies) anything on its release date?

BTW, there's probably a waiting list already for the 30 copies.

Music? No. Movies? Yes. But a movie isn't available free a week after its release date in theatres.

It's on it's way...
Yes, Martin is the best around right now.

Oh and Book 3 of Harry Potter was the best (the movie sucked though).

Just finished rereading the first five books in honor of the release of the sixth one.

And the books definitely get better after the first one. I wasn't sold on the first one until Harry got to Hogwarts. The first one's a good book, but not my favorite of the five.

And the movies all suck. They can't compare with the books at all.

We all know Anubis is very anti-HP, as he has demonstrated in many past threads.

It does seem like she, J.K. Rowling, is keeping up with the reading level. She did start out a little easy, but has gotten a little more complex as time goes on. Just my 2 cents. Mine will be in the mail on Saturday.

Just came back from BN. Put my preorder down. Unfortunatly, I won't be able to participate in the midnight festivities there, or pick up my book.

Oh well, atleast I know I have one in reserve, so definately pick it up after work tomarrow!

You nerd!

Hahah, jk.

Well I go there with friends. It's more like a chill out session. Last time we walked around the area cuz it's filled with dealerships and the stupid Chevy guy didn't let us test drive and said "Do you guys even have money to pay for this." .... Yea we'll see about that this time.

You don't HAVE to be there the whole time. I got there at like 8PM for the previous book and picked up a ticket then we screwed around playing pool nearby till like 11... Hey there are other good books to read at BN/Borders too

I read the pre-release version off a Bulgarian literary website, about a week ago. If you want it spoiled, here goes -

<SPOILER WARNING>

Setting - The final chapter (chapter LXXVI) of the book. Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort are fighting a duel on the ledge outside the Astronomy tower, at Hogwarts. Harry is losing, and has already sustained a devastating wound to his wand hand. Voldemort is trying to convince Harry to turn his back on the Order of the Phoenix, and join him in ruling the magical world.

Voldemort: If you only knew the *power* of dark magic. Dumbledore never told you what happened to your father.

Harry: He told me enough! He told me *you* killed him.

Voldemort: No. *I* am your father.
