i ordered the book from amazon for gf.
she had me upgrade the shipping method to same day special for harry potter book.
we're staying home saturday morning to wait for the delivery
now she's saying if i want to go wait in line at midnite with her tomorrow and then just return the amazon one when it comes...

she's 25.
crazy i tell ya. CRAZY!!! i dont even do that with video games!

It's not a bad book by any means. It's fair well-written, and it's something that both parents and children can enjoy. You find me another book that has pleased so many varied personalities, please.

Rowling is truly a great author.

When I first picked up the book that I was asked to read by my teacher, I thought it was ludicrous and stupid. As I pressed on, getting more and more interested in the book, I was embarassed. Here was a book that I deemed "stupid" and "childish." Having wanted to push it away because I thought it wouldn't be interesting at all. As time went on, I couldn't stop following the story, it's too interesting. I tried to just stop reading them, but I couldn't hold off for very long.

I'm seventeen and I plan on picking up the book on Saturday. Not at 12:01 AM, but later, for I'm nto that much of a fan to wait in line. I've waited this long, I can wait a few more days.

They're great books to read, for children and adults alike.

When my wife first told me about HP after the first book came out, I wasn't interested and thought it was just a "stupid kids book". But when I finally read it, I loved it. I think Rowling is a fantastic story teller. I also thought all 3 movies were great.

My wife is going to take our 7 and 10 yr olds to B&N for the midnight release. I'll probably stay home with the baby and 4 yr old.

Grabbing mine at midnight too, can't wait. Probably won't even put the book down (except for bathroom breaks and foodz0rs).

I just hope that we see Harry start kicking some ass in this and the latter books. So far he's just been drifting along on luck, "love magic" and Dumbledore's kickassery. If he fulfills the prophecy by just being lucky, I'm going to be very pissed.

Harry Potter has the weakest-ass powers. He has basically no offensive spells, and hes unable to cast the more powerful stuff due to his good alignment. Meanwhile, hes at least a level 5 wizard and all he has is a few pansy disarm and stuns. He should dual class into a fighter or something to be more useful.

I know that's what pisses me off. He's ultimately going to have to be an extremely powerful wizard (to fulfill the prophecy) but so far all we've seen is an inept little twerp who can pull of a patronus every once in a while (which won't do squat against anything that's not a dementor) and that's about it. Without dumb luck and Dumbledore, he's nothing. So hopefully he starts kicking some ass.

I think that is an important part of the story. Remember that he grew up not knowing he's a wizard, so he's way behind on that front. He's got potential and bravery, but he doesn't seem to focus to learn new things. The last book emphasized his temper and how easy his mind was to get into. Hermione is the level headed studious (sp?) counterpoint. He's been lucky, obviously, but a big part of the storylines so far is how he needs his friends to succeed.
