Add your Overclocking results to this list. Just replay to thread. I will update.
Please supply the following.
CPU:
S-spec
Batch#

Waiting on the official overclock numbers on the 8 core CPU to hit the streets along with the CPU. X99 will hit the shelves in about a month along with ddr4 RAM. What CPU will you get and why?

I will be moving from a 3930k, That CPU feels so old because, I have had it so long. I will be giving my 3930k to the wife and making the move to x99.

5960X unless it overclocks so poorly in all reviews that it can't do 4.5, if the 6 core can overclock significantly better and manage at least that speed, then I'll get that instead. I'm hoping the 5960X can do a good overclock with a bit more voltage and is just a case of using water cooling to handle the heat output. Getting the 8 core, with the decent overclocking caveat, because it's just plain awesome.

Consumer grade DDR4 is already showing up at retailors: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8326/crucial-ddr4-available-for-preorder-at-overclockersuk

Some pre-release DDR4 prices from Newgg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...CE&PageSize=20

Here are the two cheapest listings from the above link:

Crucial 4GB DIMM, DDR4 2133, Cas 16, 1.2v = $67 (Available 8/29)

Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB DIMM, DDR4 2400, Cas 16, 1.2v = $90 (Available 8/29)

The corresponding 2 x 4GB kits (of those DIMMs) are $134 and $180 respectively ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...=1&name=8GB (2 x 4GB)&Order=PRICE&Pagesize=20

(Hopefully those prices drop quickly)

First error of anything "cause it feels". Irrational dude, let it be.

I'll be getting whatever is the best and available at the time of release. 5960X, 32GB DDR4 3000, and a 4-Way SLI motherboard with a ton of SATA connections. Perhaps a few GTX 880s if they're released around the same time.

Should really get Quad Xeon E5-4600 v3, with 1 TB ECC DDR4, and all the Quadros that can fit in there.

Adam, I think it is time for you to step up to 64gb of RAM.

Sure, if there are 16GB modules. I don't want to play the 8 DIMM game. Especially since I'm going for high speed.

So isn't this the first time that the top quad core and hex core are same generation?

Release order was something like this:

Sandy Bridge
Sandy Bridge-E
Ivy Bridge
Haswell
Ivy Bridge-E
Haswell-E

The high end platform finally catches the CPU architecture of the mainstream platform. When Haswell was introduced, LGA 2011 was still Sandy Bridge-E.

Unfortunately, that is more because of delayed mainstream platform rather than accelerated deployment of Haswell E. Under a normal desktop tic/tock cycle we should be on broadwell instead of Haswell refresh.

It probably will, especially once it becomes more widely used, but the early adopters can always expect to pay a little more.

actually those prices are not unreasonable.
compared to DDR3 when DDR2 was the norm.

Agreed.

I think I may only go with 4x4gb's stick for my DDR4 build at the start.

My memory usage isn't enough to go with 32GB's currently.

And with my upgrade I need to do my ssd's waiting to see how the pci-e drives stack up.

OK, here's a question:
In Haswell-E, are they going to keep some of the VRMs in the CPU package, just as with regular Haswell?
I'm asking because I remember the reviews of the the first X79 boards and their thermal problems with the VRMs.

I think I will be waiting a little bit until I can get 4 x 16GB @ 3200mhz+. Hoping these are available by the year's end for somewhat reasonable prices.

Jumping on DDR3 when it first launched was a bit of a pain. Slow speeds and RMAs.

This.

I felt pretty fortunate with my 3930K that it was perfectly happy to run 4.6ghz with either 4 or 8 DIMMS, but I would rather not push my luck twice.

With my new server needs, 32GB won't cut it so I would rather just go 4x16GB off the bat and have room to grow later. The current DDR4 speeds are a bit disappointing though...
