X99 and SLI in surround monitor setup, has an issue that's new. I used to have to plug one monitor per video card. Using video connections from all three video cards. That's actually how the drivers made you set them up.

Surround not working at all now. I click to apply the settings and all screens act like they are going to do it then it goes back to disabled.

SLI and surround broken on X99. there are lots of post on the interwebs about it from other people as well.

Gigabyte released new BIOS updates for their X99 boards yesterday. It improves DDR4 stability at higher lock speeds. Ran several hours of LinX/Unigine loops over night at 2750 with 14-14-14-36 timings @ 1.20 volts on all 8 Vengeance LPX modules. It was still running 9 hours later when I woke up.

The platform should be nice once the bugs are ironed out.

Any effect on CPU overclocking ability?

I haven't tried anything with the CPU. I'm more concerned with stability.

Of course stability is #1.

For me I always tend to double check my overclocks to see if the BIOS update gives me any more free speed.

I would suspect the board killing the CPU.

Could be possible. I explained the situation to Newegg and was given an RMA on the CPU. Unfortunately they don't do refunds on CPUs so I have to wait for the CPU to get to them, be inspected and then the replacement to be shipped back to me.

The behaviour with my CPU was interesting on the board, my replacement mobo gets to me on Monday, going to see if I can replicate it. Depending on which RAM slot I would put a stick in I'd either get a 61 error code for NVRAM or 53 code for DDR init error. If I see the same codes occurring with the CPU on the new motherboard I think it could be similar to a dud 5960X issue someone is having on OCN. Their suspicion is that the memory controller on the CPU is partially dead from having an issue like mine where the chip didn't boot on two different boards using RAM in the same slot throwing a 53 error, but their chip would post with the use of the same alternate slot on both motherboards.

This really SUX.. I wish you a fast RMA. Nothing like spending this kind of cash and having to delay a build due to DOA parts.

My 5820K is running a nice stable 4.6 @ 1.25v on an MSI x99s SLI PLUS. RAM is G.skill 2666. HSF is a NH-D14. Temps are 72-78 across the cores while running BOINC projects. I'm impressed so far. Will jump on a 5960x next spring.

Have a 14c/28T ES cpu arriving Tuesday..........

Thank you, sir. My new board arrived today and when I was going through all my parts I found there was a small piece of the brown cardboard the CPU shell is packed in stuck to the CPU base covering some of the pads... Removed it and it fired right up in the new board. :$

What is the CPU speed your going to use along with voltage?

I am rather bummed for the fact, if you go above 100mhz bus like the faster memory XMP profiles kick you up to 125mhz bus, turbo gets disabled. This is a huge power savings loss at a minimal speed gain on the memory frequency. I wonder if this will ever get addressed?

OK, granted I am super-jelly right now...but seriously does Intel advertise an "offer" from McAfee on the box for their latest gen CPU? Merely an "offer"?

If I bought the a $300 or $500 CPU from Intel and they want to get their craptastic AV involved then I sure as hell am expecting something a little more titillating than a mere "offer"...:\

Intel's beyond useless marketing aside, congrats on the hardware biostud! I am jelly

Up and running, didn't even have to re-install windows, just install drivers and re-activate over the phone.

I'll probably fix the cable clutter later

How's the crucial memory working out bio? Was looking at the Crucial Ballistix Sport, but may stick with the basic crucial if it's essentially all the same...

So far so good. I'll have to wait with over clocking, since I'm not home this weekend.

I'm running it at 1.37v for 4.5ghz. Not the best clocker. Uncore is at 38 with 1.15v cache, 1.9 input voltage and my vccsa has a slight bump. Took me a while to get it bench stable. I had to play with the LLC and CPU current to get the volt settings lower. Runs cooler than my SB-E, not going over the low 70s in stress testing. I have 2x480 & 1x240 thick rads cooling it and my GPUs.

What do you use for TIM?

Have you checked the mounting impression to see if the IHS is overly concave or convex relative to the mating surface of the waterblock?

(just curious)

That's an interesting thought. I use NT-H1 for paste and have for years now. I'm using the same Bitspower block I had on my 3930K as well and to the naked eye it does not have any visible curvature either way. It appears to be flat. I went through two different 3930K chips when I had X79 and both were very similar temperature wise.

My temperatures running linx and aida64 stress tests are about 8C lower on the HW-E. Perhaps it is related to the different IHS design ?

It's hard to see in the picture, but HW-E's IHS does appear to be slightly convex on visual inspection.

The first Gigabyte X99 Gaming G1 I bought had obviously bad components around the VRM area. There was a very noticeable squealing sound immediately after turning the system on. Fortunately, it didn't kill my 5960X. My new Gaming G1 has been running without issues.

I don't plan to ever go nuts with voltage and clock speeds on the CPU or memory, so I hope nothing happens. Those looking to ramp up the clocks and volts with water cooling may want to watch out.

Hey Adam, or anyone who has used the Gigabyte gaming G1, which revision of the bios are you using?

I've had a nightmare of a time getting mine to do anything except fail at attempting to start the bios after updating to the latest F8c version. The backup bios still works with the stock F4 version but it still suffers from the problem of freezing if I try to open the cpu options at all.

The new version now pretty much bricked the board so I'm stuck on the backup bios for now. I can feel a painfully lengthy and expensive RMA coming already...

I'm using F8c. Didn't have any problems with it. In fact, I think it's the best BIOS for the board so far.

Are you getting stuck at A9 when attempting to get into the BIOS?

Im using the F8C aswell but on a Gaming 5.

My pc suffers from the crash loop bug if i plug a ext HDD into a USB3 slot.

The new Bios fixed it for the USB front panel but the back usb slots still causes an infinite crash loop.

Apart from that its been rock solid.

I think my i7 5820K is a dud tho. 1.265V just to get 4.2GHz
