25% of HD-DVDs. Nice. I'll have to check my local BB tomorrow just to see if these deals are trickling down to retail stores.

Hmm I got the Amazon DVD deal about a week ago, but never claimed the extra DVDs that I could get. The deal is expired now, but does anyone know if I can still get them?

Hmm. Someone point me in the right direction please - I don't see a list of HD-DVD's that work with the BOGO free deal...

I would really doubt it.

I actually did the same thing ... I called up customer service and the first person I spoke with said they couldn't do anything aside from me returning my A30 & buying it again with the DVD's.

However being the persistant bastard that I am, I refused to accept no for an answer ... I called back & the second rep I spoke with apologized for the trouble I had placing my order, had me select 3 movies from the list & immediately credited my account along with another apology for the first rep giving me a hard time so I suggest you give it a try. (note however that the promo hadn't expired at that point so YMMV)

Also note that prices have dropped quite a bit on HD-DVD players even in the last week & Amazon offers 30 day price protection so you may be able to get them to refund you some cash from your original purchase price provided you bought from Amazon directly & not one of the approved merchants like Beach camera. (so far I've been credited $74.18)

Good luck!

Edit: Amazon customer service phone # (to save you the frustrating search!)

Phone toll-free in the US and Canada: (800) 201-7575 or (866) 216-1072

Another direct line: (206) 266-2335

prices may have dropped because Warner brothers and Universal announced their support for Blue Ray at CES last week. HD-DVD may be going the way of Beta...

EDIT: I was incorrect about the CC ad for $17.99. It's only for the titles shown, and only if the store has them in stock. At best, misleading.

Circuit City has HD DVDs for $17.99. So PM with BB and get select titles for under $17. Yes, I think CC's clearancing them, as there were no exclusions listed in the flyer. BD is also at the same prices.

As for the "format war", things look bleak for HD DVD. However, you are aware that your standard DL DVD burner can burn MP4/VC9 HD DVDs, right? So keep these deals rolling, especially on players and HTPC components. That LG combo drive was available last week for $229, for instance.

The Universal rumor is as of now, unsubstantiated. If you want to talk about anything but hd-dvd deals, take it to the A/V forum.

Not cheap enough to pick up a second backup unit.

BTW, you realize you can record H.264 encoded (that'd be MPEG4) movies onto regular DVD9s (known as HD DVD9) and play them back in an HD DVD player? Neat! (HD DVD also supports VC9 encoding)

Did it.

Would have liked different movie in one of the selections.
Aeon Flux is super! (Actually, it's better than that, it is incredible!)

Does anyone know if this HD DVD player can also be used as a tuner, I have a monitor and have not purchased a tuner for it as of yet. I am wondering if I could use an HD Antenna and hook it up to this particular player. I know some of the DVD players come with tuners not sure about HDDVD

no tuner that I'm aware of. I think you're thinking about DVD recorders?
