I myself am holding out for prices to drop for dual format or Blu-Ray players but I would think there should be some great deals to found out there especially at the local level. Wal-Mart, Target, etc. may have clearance sales galore now that the format war is all but over. Not to mention the HD-DVD players make great up-converting players for regular DVDs on HD sets. For $79 this seems like a great deal.

Don't forget if you've got/get your HD DVD deal, to rent all the HD DVD's you can from Netflix. They're only going to continue renting HD DVDs for a short time. (I can't recall if it's 6 or 12 months at the moment).

The 12.20 each deal is the best one at the moment. I'd love another BOGO.

I just spent ~$220 on HD-DVDs. My strategy is to buy the HD-DVD movies that are not on Blu-Ray yet. If the studios transfer the movies over to Blu-Ray great, if not, I have the only HD version. Star Trek was at a good price at ~$96 at Amazon, and so was the Matrix trilogy at ~$42. I also bought a few other ~$11 HD-DVDs.

I seriously wish I had $100 to drop right now on that player from costco and a few extra titles... I don't even have an HD TV but I can't see blu-ray players or movies getting this low for at least a year and I plan to get a tv soon. It's not like the titles will suddenly stop working now that hd dvd is pretty much done...

Anyone wanna lend me some $$?

I picked up 10 combo format disks for about $126 shipped. Even if my HD DVD player breaks, I'll still be able to watch them.

Still waiting for the real fire sale. The Matrix trilogy for $3 is tempting.

did I miss something? where do you get combos for $12.60 average?

If I could be certain that I can get an HD-DVD capable player in the future I would buy non-combos at about this price but with Toshiba closing shop, who knows?

Probably used. You can get them used for around $10-12 on Amazon, half.com, ebay, etc.

Ahh... ok. Colombia House is running a high def BOGO right now. Best part of this BOGO is it's their entire stock including pre-released I Am Legend. Good deal if you're already a member.

I'm planning on placing an order tonight which avgs me about $16 per disc, all but one is combo, hence the question.

Actually, I got most of them NEW from Amazon vendors. A couple were lightly used.

And, I stopped by my local Hollywood video. They are selling their pre-viewed HD-DVDs 2 for $20, however most of the ones I bought had been opened, but never rented. I cleaned my store out, so YMMV.

I've got a nice 50 movie collection. I too got the Star Trek item from eBay (used) for $80, and the Ultimate Matrix Collection and BBC's Planet Earth for free, so I'm pretty happy, even though HD DVD did get killed.

Blu-ray is not projected to come down in price for at least 2 years, and there's no expectation at all that it will hit current HD DVD prices any time soon.

One dvdtalker has reported the HD-D3 for $68 at Sam's Club.

The Costco in Huntsville, AL still has them for $80, with about 11 on the floor.

Player prices will drop quicker now that the 5 DVD deal is gone. IMHO that was main reason they didnt drop further in price right away.

Shouldnt be more than a month or so before new ones are gone - maybe can find some 'buyer's remorse' Open Box specials though for people looking for a backup device.

I'm watching to see when the movies get REALLY cheap.

I had managed to pick up a HD-A30 from Amazon for $129.99. It quickly went up to $149.77 and has held steady at that price. Still not seeing any great movie deals although DeepDiscountDVD has a few titles at $9.98.

I picked up a HD-D3 at our local Costco and just got in on the 5 extra movie deal. If nothing else it will be a good upconverter for standard format. I can't imagine Blu-Ray coming down enough in the next year or two, either.

Did the Free 5 movie deal expire on purchases after 2/28/2008? I downloaded the coupon (maybe the old coupon) but want to know if a new one exist. Please provide a link if you have that coupon because the store that I went to did not print out the coupon on the receipt.
