Seems to be continuing the trend of AMD not being aggressive with pricing. On the positive side, it should help retailers clear out their 6000 series stock which is looking like a better value now.

At least they aren't sub 200 USD, but if it was like 130-140 USD, then they'll sell like hot cakes.

Only thing impressive is the power usage. 80 watts only.

The pricing makes no sense to me. I would rather get a 6850.

sigh, overall, it's not THAT big of an increase over the 4870 that I bought in march of 2009 for $159. Where has the performance increase in the mid-range market gone?

Pathetic. If performance was between the 6850 and 6870, I could see a $160 price until Kepler shows up. This is insane though, lower consumption and improved compute/tess don't make up for getting thoroughly beat by the 6850 at a much higher price. Other than Civ5, it's not even like it's close and trading benches back and forth, it's just outright slower than the 6850.

If the 7750 unlocks and overclocks it might be a reasonable buy, but a reference PCB will likely be crippled in OC by not having a 6pin connector.

Boo AMD. Boo.

XFX BEDD 7770 For $185? Really?

I think I'd rather save the $15.

Its ~50W less than the 6870 (making it an excellent card for a lot of cramped brand name systems).. I bet with some vcore mods it will overclock very well and scale.

But, should be ~$140 tops. AMD is obviously milking it with no competition.

AMD is in the process of completely redefining their price points by the looks. Will be very interesting to see how this all shakes out in the next few months. As I stated in the other thread, OEMs will love these things and AMD will probably cut them a sweet deal. But who would buy one of these over a 6850? I wouldn't, unless I was trying to build a passively cooled computer or something.

Just something I've been playing with, but Nvidia has long been viewed by many as the more AIB provider/retailer friendly. Could this be AMD's bid to fight that? These cards would be awesome at 25% lower prices. could the prices be jacked up to clear the channels of 5XXX series cards, and to prevent day 1 shortages, then lowered in a month or so once the crunch eases? A 7770 at $120 would be a nice card indeed.

This card needed to be at least 6870 performance. It's not like it's O/C'ing to the stars either. I have no idea what they are doing here. :\

There is nothing wrong with this card technically, it's just the price ladder has moved. AMD getting greedy which I don't blame them for they need it, but it remains to be seen if they sell up to expectations.

The performance is pretty good in games with alot of tessellation like Batman and crysis 2. Otherwise its awful. Barely beating the 2.5 year old 5770 and thrashed by the 6850. It should only replace the 6670 at $120 IMO.

This kind of reminds me of the 5770 launch, that card went on to be the best selling DX11 card I believe. Not saying that will happen here, but the 5770 was slower than the card it was replacing (at the price point).

Actually, the 7750 is the more interesting card of the two. At $110 before any rebates kick in, it's giving us 5770 performance without an external power connector. There's a new easy answer to "what's the most powerful card that doesn't need PCIe connectors?"

Given that most 5770/6770s are still going for around $110 before rebates, this card is a fairly good value. Once rebates appear, and I assume they will in short order, it will be the go-to card in the $80-100 price class.

The card itself is very impressive. The performance they get at those power levels is nothing short of amazing.

The 7970 is defensible. It's the single fastest card, it's performance over the 580 justifies the price, and there's good OC headroom. The 7950 isn't a huge price discount over the 7970, but at it's price it cuts the knees out from the 580. If you have $500 to spend and need to buy a GPU today, the 79xx cards are a pretty clear winner.

Here, unless you fall into a specific niche, the 77xx cards are terrible values compared to cards that are readily available. If you need a single slot bus powered card, you can't beat a 7750. If you have an system where performance per watt trumps all, then they might make sense. Otherwise, the value is poorish to ok on the 7750 and terrible on the 7770. $99 and $140 would be perfect for launch.

I'm pretty sure that is where these cards are supposed to sit, but AMD is milking the cow, or trying to. Could backfire.

Prices will come down with time, and performance will go up with drivers. Still, would be nice if at least the 7770 launched 20 dollars cheaper.

Personally, I found the launch very interesting. Very unique performance characteristics.
