Been living in Fort Lauderdale for 20 years, 4 years in Gainesville; I got hit directly by 3-4 category 5 hurricanes down here.

1. Andrew
2. Wilma (couple miles from the center of the eye)
3. Charley
4. Katrina
5. Ivan? (not sure)

A tropical storm is no big deal. Ever since Andrew, we have always been prepared, even during the 15 day power outage during Wilma.

Charley was supposed to be a mild storm, but suddenly strengthened into Cat 4 and smacked southwest FLA . . .

I don't think there'll be a problem, but I put up the shutters and brought in all of the patio equipment yesterday. My parents were worried about it and with my dad being in another state this week, yesterday was the only time for me to prepare the house.

Go Eagles!

Heh, I went to CSHS... so uh, go colts

I think our football team won a handful of games in the 4 years I spent there. They were pretty bad.

I just got the rest of today off work and tomorrow as well, woohoo! It'd be even better if there was a single interesting thing to do in downtown Miami lol

i thought so too this morning but if you look at the current drought status, it's gotten a lot better. don't need it as much as i thought.

They're still in extreme drought in western NC. In the Triangle, we're barely at normal rainfall for the year and several inches behind since the middle of last year.

Just going to stock up on water and test-fire the generator.

I've lived here so long that Cat1-2 just doesn't rile me all that much any more.

It's funny how the local news keeps trying to compare this to Charley ('04) in that they had the same projected paths. That's ALL they have in common.

Oh, and to the OP, please modify your thread title to reflect the reality that Fay is a TS!

Just got 15 gallons for mine, I hope we don't loose the juice, it's gonna get expensive @ 3.72/gal to keep a generator running for too long. Yea, it's a joke how the local stations are turning it into a ratings event..

Well if you want to be technically correct in all accounts, Tropical Cyclone would have it covered.

Melbourne here. I got some non-perishable food and water today but I'm not terribly worried. No work here tomorrow.

Charley was exciting at first, as it approached from the west (i live in Daytona) we got to see the power grid go off in a series of brilliant flashes as one by one, the transformers an wires went down. Then watching trees bend over in a 95 MPH gust was cool. Then the not-so-cool part, 8 days without any juice and being mid-august, no AC or fans as well. A LOT of people (including myself) went out and bought generators, if we lose power again I can imagine the racket we will all be hearing!!.

I'm ready, wont really change much of anything for me. Have lots of gas for the generator and tons of food/water. I'll be playing Warhammer hurricane or not.

Fort Myers here.

Fairly close to where the storm is supposed to make land-fall... Took the chairs off the lanai, filled up the gas cans... bought a few gallons of water. Not too concerned, but, of course, everything is shut down tomorrow. PFFFFTTT..

My parents live in Naples, but we are away for vacation. Hopefully it won't be too bad because no one will be there to check on the house. We are supposed to fly back on Thursday. I have a feeling our flight it going to get delayed.
