Pat Robertson Casts 'Shield Of Protection' Ahead Of Hurricane Florence

“In the name of Jesus, you Hurricane Florence, we speak to you in the name of Jesus, and we command the storm to cease its forward motion and go harmlessly into the Atlantic. Go up north away from land and veer off in the name of Jesus. We declare in the name of the lord that you shall go no farther, you shall do no damage in this area.”

Naturally, since that's where your wallets are.

Oh ye of little faith...you might be in trouble...especially if it doesn't work...

He warned followers that they must have no doubts in their faith for the ritual to work but added that the “shield” has worked against previous hurricanes.

you would be known as the naysayer who prevented Pat's godly prayer from stopping the evil hurricane!

This may be a really stupid, but can airplanes fly over hurricanes? Or do they have to fly around them? And is it common for flights to go on as normal if the normal path is to go directly where the hurricane is going to be, but they instead just go around the hurricane?

I'm just wondering if there is a chance that the first leg of my trip from BWI to FLL will have a chance of happening Saturday morning at 8am. The typical flight path goes RIGHT over the coast of the carolinas where it's going to be getting hammered.
No, it's not stupid, they do fly pretty high but a Hurricane will go to around 50Kft, higher than any commercial plane can fly at. Even if it could there would probably be unexpected jet-stream events and if the plane had to descend for any reason it would wind up right in the thick of things. Latest report is eyewall didn't re-form very well and some dry air is making it's way into the circulation, good news for everyone..

My sister-in-law lives in Wilmington, NC. I believe she said there were some evacuations but it could possibly miss the coast completely? I live in western NC and we are getting lots of rain.

Yea, that's NUTS, just the thought of "30-40 of rain is insane. Now you throw that surge in and your talking hellish conditions, truly, truly, dangerous. Another thought is this entire area is already waterlogged from Gorden's remnants, this rain, surge, extreme wind WILL topple almost any tree, when they hit your house, (and your inside it) it is not something that will be a "fond" memory, ask me how I know!. Tell them to GTFO!!
People forget that their vehicles are going to be rendered inoperable too. Once the water reaches a certain height it's a goner and it might just very well float away.

And I realize airports in NC/SC are going to cancel flights, but I'm not getting on any planes at airports near there.
The plane you intend to fly out on may not be able to get in. Could be grounded at another airport. These events turn air travel into total chaos for the airlines.

I suspect the storm never actually recovered from the huge ridge in the mid Atlantic last week that sheared the top off a Cat4 beast and reduced it to a naked swirl and a piddly tropical storm. After Florence rebuilt its strength and wind maxima, the first eyewall replacement cycle (ERC) failed, and the core has been damaged and degrading ever since. The wind field spreads out, but the core of the beast is kaput. No Cat5, no major hurricane. Today it struggles to even be called a hurricane.

Great news for the people in its path. Though the great size of the wind field and it stalling out may cause damage and disruption greater than its category would suggest. People should be wary of it, and be storm / flooding prepared, but they're lucky this will be no catastrophe. Nothing like it could have been.

This thing looks like it’s losing steam. Cat 1 at landfall maybe? There’s going to be a lot of rain but not disaster scenario that it looked like before I don’t think.
