Anyone here using the GN unlocked version on T-Mobile?
Just went from Thunderbolt on Verizon to an unlocked GN from Google on T-Mobile. Am quite pleased with the phone and the service. That said, T-Mobile's customer service sucked royally when trying to get a SIM card and the WalMart/online $30/month rate for 100min, unlimited text and 5GB of data.
Here is a list of things to watch out for:
1) Do not go to any B&M T-Mobile stores if you want plans that are not offered in store (this includes online only plans on T-Mobile's website). They have SIM activation kits there, but will not sell them unless you activate it in store (after being able to only select the plans they have in the B&M store).
2) WalMart can/do not sell SIM activation kits alone, but they sell phone kits that have a SIM activation kit inside. I bought a $20 phone kit, but the SIM activation kit would not activate and the T-Mobile CSR online chat rep stated I needed to pay an extra $36 in fees to fix their issue with the activation kit. The rep also berated me for not having the WalMart rep activate the phone before leaving store even though the phone kits are packaged for IN-HOME activation. Told T-Mobile CSR rep to pound sand. Returned the phone kit to WalMart and bought the $30 phone kit (to avoid the potential risk of all the $20 kits being bad) and after telling whole story to the WalMart rep, she activated it in store for me. Was no issues after that and left store, took out SIM card in the $30 phone, put it in my GN and tossed the $30 phone.
3) For any prepaid T-Mobile plans, they enabled the "optional" Web Guard feature. Basically it is a parental controlled filter that likes to sometimes block Facebook and other sites randomly. Have to jump through hoops to get his disabled
