Could it be that ICS is optimized to make the most of the graphic processor? I understand the concern, but during the presentation I heard mention that 1280x720 was going to be the native resolution 4.0 supports.

People are still talking about the SGX540? Even though the presentation and videos were perfectly smooth and fluid? Guys, your UI is going to be fine. As several people have said before, the concern is going to be with games.

guys, don't forget possible driver advances. on the nexus one/adreno 200, we got a 30% bump in benchmark numbers (nenamark went from 15 to 20 fps) after qualcomm released some updated drivers.

hopefully something similar will be the case for sgx540 in the GN. hopefully.

edit: although I realize the sgx540 was probably more widespread than the adreno 200, and so whatever driver optimization is possible may have been done already.

Yes but the videos and hands on impressions that were positive don't make for good trolling material and those were ignored, they focused on the 1 negative article with a faulty unit.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but seriously, if you read and watch TechCrunch's hands-on piece, the stuttering and lag, or "hesitation" is there. They wrote about bugs subtly and mentioned that they would reserve judgment until they got a final preview unit.

Personally, I don't see how discussing about it is trolling. It's a problem for some Android users, and I would personally like to see it get fixed, for good. What's wrong with that?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/samsung-galaxy-nexus-hands-on/

The 1.2GHz dual-core processor was startlingly fast. It actually felt a wee bit quicker than our Galaxy S II, and given that Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus were apparently built for one another, we're assuming there's some deeply ingrained optimizations to thank. Swiping from pane to pane was faster than its ever been on Android, and the new Roboto font actually is super eye-pleasing. The touch response of the capacitive buttons -- much like those on the original Nexus One -- take a bit of getting used to, and we had to mash 'em just a touch harder than we anticipated to elicit a response. [Update: turns out our demo phone was a bit of an early build; we touched another model later in the day, and our response gripes were gone. Perfectly responsive.

so the question is if it's accelerated UI or not... fully accelerated. As much as you'd like to say gingerbread is accelerated, it's barely accelerated. If the UI is fully accelerated this time, then it should be able to handle widgets at ease. But we still cannot be completely sure with ICS until Anand gets his hands on it I suppose

The Google Nexus 720p screen is pentile. Thats too bad, looks like we'll have to wait till maybe early next year for true 720p.

SGX540 is pretty weak by today's standards. Android already has problems with the most powerful hardware, so I don't expect a 720p Android device with that GPU to be perfectly smooth. ICS is going to have to pull some miracles. When it comes down to it though, smoothness hasn't really been Android's forte anyway. So this probably won't bother most users. For myself, this is what keeps me away from Android.

That sounds just as I suspected. It sounds like android.
Stupid stuff they never fixed in Gingerbread-- like that annoying cursor that blocks your ability to select a different word if the autopredict predicted wrong.

That, and yes, the stuttering. I think it's from the garbage collection running.

So I thought I wanted an android phone, but it stutters and has bugs etc? But I don't really want an iPhone either. Have an ipod touch and kinda tired of it.. So maybe I should just stick to my dumb phone? I'm tired of hearing about all these problems; why can't they just make me a perfect product!

It's over stated.

Perfect product spread over 300 different devices doesn't exist.

I looked at the somewhat close up shots of the GN versus various other phones, including GS2 and NS. The pentile wasn't noticeable to me. I think the problem with previous versions is that they just weren't dense enough, which stretched out the display and made things sorta choppy. Given how clear text looked on that display, and how close up it looked less pixelated than a GS2, nope I'm not worried.

Pics were from engadget if you want to go search them out.

Older ones can sure, but a lot of this is blown out of proportion. Just wait for this latest batch of new phones to hit the street and go test for yourself. Just know that the instore demos typically have a ton of crap running, so your device would be faster.

There is no such thing as a perfect product. I personally am happy /w a SGSII because it doesn't have lag for anything I do. The only way to find the product that is right for you is to try them..

Ok, maybe I was overstating my frustration a bit. But it is annoying be be excited for the nexus s, galaxy s, S2, now GN, and then hear something that kills my desire to buy it. I don't even remember all the reasons, but I've been looking at these phones since the Nexus one and always found a reason to wait. Usually cost play a large role to though, not quite convinced I need a smartphone. It's mainly a toy..

Testing it out in the store always seems kinda worthless to me. I load a few pages and mess around, but don't really know what to do with it and I'm pretty sure it's not telling me how I'd feel using it daily.

You don't think you need it until you have one for a while. Believe me... it's not a toy after a while. Right now you've made due without which is great, but if you had one you'd definitely find more use in it than just games. Having email always at your fingertips is great, and if everybody you talk to has access to email you don't need a text plan. I use the built in GPS a lot when I'm with friends in a new place and we need to find things.

There's always a reason to wait and tech gets cheaper by the hour. IMO if you're not missing it then don't even bother looking.

Only the unobservant part of the press didn't know this -- it's the state of the OLED process. And in fact, 720p LCD (non-Pentile, from all we know) will be coming out *the exact same day* on the Rezound. (But did HTC sign a contract with Verizon saying they have to rehash the same design every single time?!)

Comparison between the different screen technologies. The Note uses the HD Amoled Display at a 5.3" screen size, but gasp ITS PENTILE. I think the Galaxy Nexus will be fine.
