So, some questions i have on ICS:
1) is there a t9 capable dailer now? (Yes i know i can get a 3rd party dailer, but its kinda pathetic that android doesnt have this by default.)
2) for devices with physical/capactive touch buttons, will [MENU] become the new multitask button? Will [SEARCH] become useless?
3) is the onscreen keyboard the same as gingerbread? From the demo it looked like it, and it seemed really out of place.
4) will android 2.x apps still work? Without issue, or will they all have to be updated to be ics compatiable? I assume most widgets have to be rewritten to be resizeable?

3) no, it looks similar but they mentioned they tweaked it. Hit detection as well as word prediction are suppose to be better, as is a new way to select those words.

I still have no idea what a t9 dialer is

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

Its basically just a dialer that incorporates t9 predictive text to figure out who you want to call.

For example, say I want to call amy. On a phone without T9 dialing, I either have to remember her number, or go into my contacts and find her or search for her.

On a phone with T9 dialing, I just have to hit 269 on the keypad ( [ABC] [MNO] [WXYZ] ) and call.

Pentile screen, no sd card support, no exynos...

So the only thing it has going for it is the 720p, ICS, and developer support? =\

ahh not something I'd use. hated that way of texting in the days before smartphones it never got what I wanted right. was easier to just go letter for letter

That's a lot going for it right there. Average buyer doesn't care about the specs, but does care about resolution, OS and apps.
Go ask a random person what a pen-tile screen or Exynos is.

I think the biggest annoyance would be SD card for me. I was fine with my GSI screen's pentile.

It's on the best network, has LTE, no carrier bloat, and built for ICS means no useless hardware buttons taking up would be screen space.

The screen doesn't seem to be an issue from hands-on previews. I personally never swap out micro SD cards, so that doesn't mean anything to me, and I don't care what the CPU in my phone is called, as long as it runs its OS well (which it seems to do quite well).

Of course the response you'll get back is along the lines of iPhone doesn't have one either. It's something that doesn't put Nexus at a disadvantage against its main competitor, and Samsung will gladly sell you a Galaxy S2 with an SD card reader and RGB screen if you insist.

I have a 32gb sd card that I switch every time I get a new phone. If anything happens to my phone, usually Id be able to save my music and my photos from the sd card.

And you don't have these music and photos stored on a hard drive? Seems like a very easily taken care of concern.

Edit: Oh wait, read your post wrong.

You should get into Google Music. Only a 20000 song limit.

And photos can be uploaded to numerous online back up/cloud solutions.

played with it a bit yesterday and today.

pentile is not noticeable to the naked eye. compared to incredible and nexus one, it is a night and day difference due to the higher PPI.

the ICS build i was playing with was apparently a month old. it was very, very smooth.

the hardware was light, but seemed less "plasticky" than galaxy s and nexus s

quick LTE test pulled 17 down and 6 up

didn't get a chance to run any 3d benchmarks. "building world" in minecraft completed about 2x as fast as my sensation, possibly due to 1gb ram vs 786. sunspider was <2000ms as we have seen before.

It is extremely easy and after a day or 2 you kind of find yourself using it. It is super easy just to hit 564 and it pops up a list of johns instead if opening contacts to find the person. If it is anything like dialer one it will pop up a list of both names that include the letters from 5, 6 & 4 combined + any phone numbers with 564 in it so it works all together.

It is not really that similar to using T9 for texting which IMO sucked horribly.

I find Google's Gesture Search app is the easiest and quickest method. Just draw a 'J' and it shows your contacts starting with that letter. You can also use it to find apps, and songs.

The T9 dial search is not very fast. You're talking 4-5 button presses to get want you want.

I don't have many friends, usually only takes me 1

Awesome. Didn't know it even existed and I have searched the market for google inc. products before. Thanks for sharing. I can finally delete the direct dial shortcuts from my phone.

SGS2 ~=207PPI

GN ~=315PPI

Pentile layout gives you more RGB sub pixels then an actual RGB display in this case due to the overall pixel density. I would expect if we ever more to 1080p displays for phones they will all be pentile and stay that way for many reasons.
