it was announced at CES 2011, was supposed to be a may/june launch, got pushed back till Sept, phone was made pointless by the Razr 6 weeks later

All the docs leaking for the Gnex point to This year at least so I dont think VZW will sit on it for too long.

I didn't realize this was a penta-band phone, which is neat. Means if you want it on something other than Verizon/Sprint just find a way to buy one from somewhere and will work on either t-mobile or att.

well the original bionic was actually a different phone.

motorola would have released the "bionic" the motorola targa eventaully anyway.

i figure had the original bionic released in say may, we'd have had the current "bionic" released as some other droid phone or verizon phone right now.


i mean if you think about it, the original bionic was not going to be that great anyway since the current one has a better cpu and you'd think will be easier to update (given the droid 4 / razr/ targabionic all have mostly the same internals).

i can see the current bionic being the "budget" dual core LTE phone from moto in the future. so budget slate, premium slate (razr) and like a slider for keyboard fans... seems like a good lineup.

its too bad they had announced the name bionic for that tegra 2 phone, which sits badly with most people, but this bionic and that original one were different code names anyway.

Ugh that sucks. I was hoping this was like the Razr and when I go overseas I could pop in a sim card and use it.

Yeah, that's pretty funny. It's a fantastic review though, the most in-depth one I've read today. I was quite pleased to have two concerns allayed: 1) the pentile display isn't a problem; and 2) the touch lag that was evident during the demo last month is gone.

Looks like the 21st is the expected launch date. Funny, I'll actually be in the UK during that time. Maybe I'll get a chance to play with the Nexus before coming back to buy it on Verizon.
