If the nexus is currently displaying the signal more accurately, I don't like the idea to update it to reflect a higher signal just to make people think it has a better signal that it really does.

I really don't care what other phones/providers/whatever are doing/have done.
OK fair enough.

But if only ONE phone has accurate readings doesnt it mean we will have to relearn or unlearn everything we knew before? Like the now the bars are actually meaningful?

We have to start somewhere.. but obviously what this means is that they will continue to reflect incorrect signals on their phones in the future. This one must have slipped by them I guess.

Oh well though, they'll do whatever they want. All I care about is that they try to get 4.0.3 and other updates to us fast.

From what I've seen on XDA, 4.0.3 gets rid of the slight lag when pressing the multitasking button among other things.

Looks like I won't be getting this anytime soon like I thought I would bank account is a bit slim. Not that bad off though here with my fascinate. I'll just play with roms for a few months until I can afford something. Maybe VZW will get something better I can look forward to in the first quarter of 2012. Still so jealous I probably won't be getting my hands on one of these!

Or someone could donate....

Ever notice that all women must be getting more petite? You would believe so if you looked at women's clothing sizes (I'm not a woman but my wife and I were discussing this topic yesterday). 10 years ago many women were size 8 or 10, today they'd be size 6. Either they're all getting more petite......OR.......we're getting grade inflation (or size deflation) so they'll all feel better about themselves! Ever wonder why we now have like Size 0 and I think even 00? Maybe 25 years from now every size will be some form of 0.....the real fatties will be 0, while the hot petite girls will be 00000.

Anyway sorry for the departure but this reminded me of the GNex issue. If they really wanted to market, they should change the meter so it shows a larger graph with 10 bars and adjust it so it gets between 9 and 10 at all times.

Here's an interesting interview with the design team behind the Galaxy nexus.

TaeJoong Kim defined the GALAXY Nexus as “harmony.” The harmony between nature and ergonomics, and also the harmony between Samsung’s groundbreaking technology, Google’s latest OS, and the streamlined design. Designer GiYoung Lee also emphasized the group effort that brought the Nexus into being.

Gimping the phone is free. Fixing the entire god damn network costs billions.

I don't think there's anything to 'fix' with the network. Signal and coverage will improve as they continue their rollout.

But pushing updates to all the other LTE phones to bring their signal bars in line with the Nexus and real dBm would lead to a rash of people complaining that the 'last update killed their LTE signal.' Its easier to placebo a single phone.

Figures...

Last night I finally get my g/f to agree to upgrade her phone to the Galaxy and go on one plan and the phone is no longer available for order on Amazon.

Anyone have a car charger to recommend? I have a cheapo generic and it barely offsets my use while plugged in.

I have a verizon branded microusb charger and if i'm using the phone heavily it can't keep up either. Wonder if the car chargers just cant' keep up or if only certain ones can?

What are the power ratings on the Verizon branded versons vs the generic ones?

I'll have to try to find it.. it's not printed anywhere on the charger itself. It's one of the VZ ones that also has an additional usb port to charge a 2nd device. I got it from work with my blackberry last year, though it's not a BB specific charger( I don't think?)

I think it's an issue with the Nexus phones in general with their signal bar because the Nexus S had an update that changed the way it showed the signal also.

OK, Amazon sent me my Nexus case already, but no Nexus. Ah well. Christmas comes a few days late.

Just decided to go ahead and root my phone. All I did was unlock bootloader/root, not going to do a custom recovery just yet.

I'm going to try a screen off profile in setcpu to see what that does.

Going to give Bugless Beast a shot once I can get some time away from family.

These are for the LTE version not sure if its the same for GSM. Going back to stock is a piece of cake just like rooting.

I followed these directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400832

Alternate (easier)directions with video:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400938

Back stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399210

I will say that I installed the Samsung drivers and it would not detect my phone. I installed pdanet (google it) and that installed alternate Samsung drivers that did the trick.

The only reason I'd root is for tethering (actually makes sense with a LTE connection) but it seems like such a hassle to redo all my config again just for that one thing.

You dont necessarily have to redo everything. With One Click Root you still have your normal setup unless you choose to install a custom ROM later, but its not automatic. But I dont think One Click Root has files for the Nexus just yet.

Do you mean I wouldn't have to reconfigure everything? My screens, accounts, twitter logins, etc would be preserved?
