Yay! I was just gonna post my thoughts and the lag while typing was gonna be my only negative, but turning that off completely fixed it and (like the article says) the auto-correct still works.
I loved the reliability and smoothness of my iPhone 4 that I bought when it came out for Verizon this year, but this puppy is just as smooth if you leave the UI settings basic. Battery life on 3G seems only slightly worse than my iPhone, but the screen blows it away. Colors are so much more vibrant and blacks are deeper. I couldn't care less if the colors are "over-saturated;" 99% of the time I'm not looking at real-life pictures on the thing, so if it's pleasing to the eye (which it is) then saturation accuracy means nothing to me.
Yes, I can tell it's PenTile, but only if I hold it up within a few inches of my eye, so that's a moot point. I'd much rather "deal" with PenTile at this resolution than have a lower resolution like the SGS2. I'm also definitely loving the size of it; browsing the web and reading text is much easier than on my iPhone, and much less scrolling back and forth is required.
Finally, and I know this may sound weird, the shape and design language of the device reminds me of the U.S.S. Excelsior from the Star Trek movies, which I always loved. Yes, I know I'm a nerd...and while this admittedly doesn't have quite the primo feel of the iPhone 4, it has a nice heft to it so it doesn't feel like a toy, as my friends' SGS1s do.
P.S. Bateleur, I know you're in the Phoenix area, what kind of LTE results are you getting? I ran Speedtest a couple times at work (Avondale, SW side of Phoenix) and pulled in about 6-7 MBps. Lightning-fast compared to 3G, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing compared to the others in this forum getting close to 20
