It's sleeping, it just sucks down battery like crazy. This morning I unplugged it at around 7:55am when I left for work, and by the time I got to work around 8:50am it was at 94%. That's 6% battery drain just sitting in my pocket.

Here's what CPU spy had to say

Total time 53:29

700 MHz 3:11
350 MHz 7:07
Deep Sleep: 43:07

So it spent most of it's time in deep sleep yet still sucked down 6% of the battery.

check out betterbatterystats to see what is causing the partial wakelocks while unplugged.

i am rooted w/ franco's kernel, but I lose around 1% of battery life every ~8hours or so while "idle" on 4g, and over 12 hours in airplane mode

just updated my post... but yes that is with 4g (using the 04/06 radio set). in airplane mode i get close to 12hours per 1% battery drain.

I am using his nightly 12 kernel. #13 should be released today at somepoint.

On another note, we had chatted about AXI0M 2.4... keeping to my true ADD nature, I am back to codename android 1.1.1 (1.1.4 just came out today and I will probably go to it later this evening). Don't ask me why... because I don't know, lol

Downloaded betterbatterystats. How do I use this? It gives a lot of very confusing info. I exported it to a file, and it's like HOLY WALL OF TEXT.

Did you do anything else like disable certain apps, etc?

I lose something like 1 or 2% per hour. May have to get betterbatterystats to see if there's anything I can tweak...

Fyi betterbatterystat app is free if you get it from XDA. You have to pay if you download at the Android market. That said if you use it and find it helpful, you should buy the app to support the developer.

6% drain an hour is totally unacceptable.

Choose "since unplugged" and "partial wakelocks".

this will show you what is waking your phone up from deep sleep, i.e. "wakelock"

Did you do anything else like disable certain apps, etc?

I lose something like 1 or 2% per hour. May have to get betterbatterystats to see if there's anything I can tweak...

-the only google sync's I have running are gmail, calendar and contacts.
-don't use latitude
-don't have reader, google+, twitter, and so forth, do any kind of refresh automatically (i.e. when I open it, it refreshes rather then it auto refreshing every hour).
-don't use the facebook app, instead I have a link that goes to touch.facebook.com (using desktop visualizer, it looks just like the facebook app link)
-disabled location services (in location and services, uncheck the first and last box. only have the gps checked).
-screen at 30%
-no key press sounds or haptic feedback
-no lock/unlock sounds

that's a small list of what I do... most of these were narrowed down as I (and the user/developer community on xda/rootzwiki) saw stuff in betterbatterystats looking at what was
A. causing the most wakelocks
B. causing the most time awake after a wakelocks.

right on!

Elganja, does the stock rom have the camera drain issue that some custom rom builds had? that could be the cause of some peoples drain issues.

but seeing that you dont use the facebook ap pretty much explains why you ave such better life, the ap does bad things to the battery. G+ isnt nearly as bad. FB was at times 25% of the battery usage when its not even being used (when i was on stock)

i don't know tbh, but I think it is related to the kernel though, not the ROM. I know I never do the open/close camera trick and haven't had issues (using franco #10, #11, or #12)

and yes, facebook is horribad. tbh, the touch.facebook.com is pretty similar to the app experience.. so you don't lose much by using it IMHO.

i have not noticed any ill effects using google+, but as I said, I turned off all notifications for it and it's built in "messenger" (not to be confused with sms app).

Here's my battery stats. Not 100% certain what I should be looking for. I did it "since charged" since I plugged the device in to grab the file.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/46966263/BetterBatteryStats-2012-01-18_124329641.txt

okay, see the section that says "wakelocks". those are the services that are waking up your phone from deep sleep. I'll higlight a few things you can take a look at:
NetworkLocationLocator (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 3 m 16 s (196 s) Count:125 2.7%
so this is an immediate thing to look at, it causing your phone to stay awake the most in this log

AudioOut_1 (1013): 2 m 15 s (135 s) Count:33 1.8% RILJ (Phone): 1 m 55 s (115 s) Count:95 1.6%
AlarmManager (Android System): 1 m 48 s (108 s) Count:1522 1.5%
use adb to get a dump of your alarms (this is not your alarm clock fyi)... adb command "adb shell dumpsys alarm > AlarmDump.txt"

ConnectivityService (Android System): 1 m 3 s (63 s) Count:417 0.9%
this for the most part is fine, but it can also be something like wifi consistently looking for a signal, etc...

com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.UpdateService (com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.Google Voice): 55 s (55 s) Count:11 0.8%
Genie (com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget.News & Weather): 53 s (53 s) Count:1 0.7%
so this one is interesting, it woke your phone up once, but for 53 s which to me is a little alarming. may want to dig into this more

GFE wake lock (com.good.android.gfe.Good): 52 s (52 s) Count:198 0.7% *sync*_gmail-ls_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.gm.Gmail): 43 s (43 s) Count:18 0.6% CheckinsNotificationService (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 38 s (38 s) Count:392 0.5%
WifiStateMachine (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 23 s (23 s) Count:587 0.3%
again with google maps, what is going on here?

WifiStateMachine (Android System): 17 s (17 s) Count:407 0.2% NetworkStats (Android System): 15 s (15 s) Count:207 0.2% *sync*_com.twitter.android.provider.TwitterProvider_Account {name=trmiv, type=com.twitter.android.auth.login} (com.twitter.android.Twitter): 14 s (14 s) Count:4 0.2%
LocationReportingService (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 14 s (14 s) Count:725 0.2%
again with google maps, what is going on here?

GmailProviderProviderChangedBroadcastWakeLock (com.google.android.gm.Gmail): 13 s (13 s) Count:9 0.2% GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_email@gmail.com/android_talkecb9d19c8dd7 (Google Services): 12 s (12 s) Count:10 0.2% NetworkLocationLocator (Google Services): 11 s (11 s) Count:151 0.2% GTALK_CONN (Google Services): 8 s (8 s) Count:561 0.1% ActivityManager-Launch (Android System): 8 s (8 s) Count:246 0.1% com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow.util.WakefulIntentService (com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow.Light Flow): 7 s (7 s) Count:349 0.1% GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.AndroidEndpoint (Google Services): 6 s (6 s) Count:78 0.1% BWL (com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.Beautiful Widgets): 5 s (5 s) Count:3 0.1% *sync*_com.android.calendar_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.calendar.Calendar): 5 s (5 s) Count:6 0.1% Checkin Service (Google Services): 5 s (5 s) Count:131 0.1% sleep_broadcast (Android System): 5 s (5 s) Count:324 0.1% NetworkLocationPassiveCollector (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 4 s (4 s) Count:265 0.1%
LocationReceiverService (com.google.android.apps.maps.Maps): 3 s (3 s) Count:532 0.0%
again with google maps, what is going on here?

GpsLocationProvider (Android System): 2 s (2 s) Count:295 0.0%
some app is requesting the gps location

*sync*_com.google.android.apps.wallet_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.Wallet): 2 s (2 s) Count:6 0.0% *sync*_com.google.android.gallery3d.GooglePhotoProvider_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.gallery3d.Gallery): 2 s (2 s) Count:2 0.0% *sync*_com.google.android.apps.books_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.apps.books.Books): 2 s (2 s) Count:1 0.0% *sync*_com.google.android.music.MusicContent_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (com.google.android.music.Music): 1 s (1 s) Count:4 0.0%
these are all sync's i generally disable... wallet, gallery, books, and music

GOOGLE_C2DM (Google Services): 1 s (1 s) Count:300 0.0% C2DMService (com.twitter.android.Twitter): 1 s (1 s) Count:1 0.0% MediaScannerService (Media): 1 s (1 s) Count:2 0.0% SyncLoopWakeLock (Android System): 1 s (1 s) Count:1664 0.0% com.google.android.music.MusicPlaybackService.mAsyncWakeLock (com.google.android.music.Music): 1 s (1 s) Count:2 0.0% *sync*_com.android.contacts_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (Google Services): 1 s (1 s) Count:565 0.0% *sync*_subscribedfeeds_Account {name=email@email.com, type=com.google} (Google Services): 1 s (1 s) Count:566 0.0%
so that should give you an idea how to look at this log. but you really want to look at the unplugged stats rather then the charging stats

Genie is the Google news widget.

I disabled wallet, gallery and books, but I do use Google music for all my music so I left that on. I also disabled Latitude.

No idea what's up with the maps stuff. I guess maybe because location services is on. I do use that stuff, so I guess I'll just deal with that. It has one for the Traffic Widget which I played with once and then decided I didn't like it, but it still shows up.

My phone definitely seems to use a lot less battery once I get to a place with wifi. At work we have open wifi that my phone connects to all day. It dropped from 100% to 93% on my 40 minute drive in, but has only dropped to 79% in the four hours since. Still a decent amount of use, but close to half what it did on my drive in. There is a section on my drive that gets horrible 4G coverage, so it could be that.

Got the Verizon Nexus last night. Coming from the Blackberry Storm 2, ICS and Nexus are amazing. Can't wait to root and unlock the phone's true potential.

hey folks...i have a iphone 3gs and i'm thinking about getting either a nexus or a sg s2 pretty soon here. and naturally, i have questions:

1. I have unlimited data grandfathered on my at&t plan...which is why I feel I shouldnt switch to verizon. And apparently at&t has 4g LTE where I live in San Diego. Will I be able to use that 4g LTE if I get an unlocked nexus?
2. Best place to get an unlocked nexus? I assume you can't get one without ordering it online somewhere.
3. You cant just unlock a nexus yourself right? (probably a dumb question) How does the phone get...unlocked?
4. I have heard I will need a new sim card to get 4g speeds. can I just go into an att store and request that? or will they say no because i'm using a non-att phone on their network?

if I get the s2 I guess I want the skyrocket because it does 4g LTE...but some people have said the skyrocket is not as good for some reasons (worse cpu and gpu). however when I look at at&t's page the skyrocket is listed with a higher clock speed CPU....clearly i am confused.

edit: also looking at this $30 tmobile plan...sounds tasty indeed. I will need to procure an unlocked phone somehow...

1. I don't think the GSM nexus is compatible for ATT's LTE.
2. eXpansys or handtec. Primarily because any GSM nexus is grey market and they will help you with warranty issues.
3. All nexus' come unlocked, minus specific carrier-branded ones I've read about in Canada and Japan.
4. I don't know about this. But I know with TMO you will need a newer sim card to get on the 21mb connection.

I'm using the GN on Tmo's $30 plan and it's great with grooveip on wifi so I don't use minutes at home.

thanks for responding abaez! I must have this phone! It is now my quest...

I am trying to find a place that has data on wireless download/upload speeds and pings, and you can sort it by carrier, and what area you're in...is there such a place?

edit: and yes, I have googled for it, but cant find one

Two things about ICS from my use so far...

1. A lot more stable and better at managing resources. I have yet to have an app force close on me, I'll give part of the credit to how easy it is to kill apps now.

2. I hate the new keyboard. Something about it feels clunky compared to the Gingerbread one. The voice typing feature is good though - works as advertised.

And as of right now, are there any ICS phones on the horizon sporting a physical keyboard?

Droid 4 might, but that depends on motos plans, AFAIK nothing has been anounched that is shipping with ICS and a keyboard

I don't think anything will be shipping with ICS for another month or two, unless it's stock ICS (probably 4.0.2 or 4.0.3).

You can likely count on Droid 4 receiving ICS, the question being: how long of a wait? Motorola will have to update "don't call it Blur" for ICS compatibility, and I seriously doubt the Droid 4 will be held onto until ICS.

There's nothing like swiftkey x especially on a phone with a big screen.

swiftkeyx is nice, but I think I actually prefer the stock keyboard on ICS with this huge screen. swiftkeyx was great on my Droid because it was such a bitch to type, but typing on this huge screen is pretty easy.
