explain further because i don't follow, in switch prs settings i see no options to change what the GPS toggle does

Yeah nevermind it doesn't work. But that's how you would change that.

I'm curious though, why do you need a very quick GPS toggle? It isn't used unless you launch an app that needs it (ie maps). AFAIK it's only running as long as the icon is in the status bar. I can't think of a scenario/situation where I would need to keep toggling GPS on and off throughout the day?

it may be fixed on ICS but in every previous version of android turning it off improved battery life for me. Ill just have to adjust, the only time i actually want it on is if im using maps/nav.

aps like facebook should NEVER be pinging GPS.

as for tapatalk this is what happens every time

Tapatalk works for me as well.

The phone and battery aren't doing as well today. Battery drained in 5 hrs. I wonder if it may something to do with the phone possibly looking for a 4G signal. I barely get 3G here at work. Also it is running hot all over. Started out in the back by the camera, spread to the sides and now the screen is running hot as well. what gives?

All I did different today was just talk on the phone for 5 minutes.

Man something is not right. I hit the google music icon and instead tapatalk opens up. Not good.

Settings - More - Mobile Network settings - network mode

Turn it to CDMA Only if you don't have any 4G - should stop the searching for a non existant 4G signal, should improe your bat life

figured out why Tapatalk was crashing for me

if you enable "Force GPU Rendering" in the Dev Options it wouldn't open for its initial setup. turned it off opened it up and set up anandtech. reenabled it and it works fine :/

Ok, thanks. I'm going to try CDMA only here at work. But are the radios in the Nexus have problems in general with reception? Like I mentioned earlier 3G doesn't even get a bar in here and isn't LTE supposed to penetrate buildings better?

Gotta admit I'm a bit pissed off that I pay for a 4G phone and get no 4G and on top of that poorer 3G.

I've just left "force GPU rendering" off. I haven't noticed any benefit to turning it on. Yet it has caused some compatibility issues when I turned it on.

dear god!, i think thats the fastest 4g SS ive ever seen

Yeah, something wrong with those results, especially the uplink. 10Mhz and SC-FDMA just won't do that. Unless the poster is using a 20mHz band with AT&T. Also, if you look at the graph on the bottom left which shows the instantaneous throughput over time, the test seems to end prematurely. I am not saying it's impossible as I did this just the other day with an LG revolution in Houston:

The problem with phones is that they are not necessarily optimized in the TCP/IP stack for true max throughput testing. Using a VL600 I have done upwards of 53 Mbps, but it was to an FTP server, so I don't have results of that, and it was on a commercial site (ie other users on the site at the same time)

I did do some speedtest.net afterwards, but I could never get as high as before:

The first day I got mine, we were doing speed tests against co-workers with EVo's.

I hit 48,995 at one point. The guys on Sprint's 4G were maxing out around 6,600.

I think the cruelest joke the carriers have played on us is to introduce data caps and LTE

After the ThunderBolt, I decided the speeds were awesome, but the battery life issues weren't worth it, and dropped back to a 3G phone.

Awesome speeds/phone, BTW. Color me jealous guys

Wat? My LTE topped out around ~20Mbps down.

Picked up my Nexus this morning. Thunderbolt is now a backup device . . . since everyone's dropping them like the plague. There are two phones on Swappa being dumped en mass, the Thunderbolt and Bionic.

Now, how do I get the damn 4.0.2 update?

So awhile back I posted:

abaez said:
So there is going to be Verizon bloat on the device: http://androidcommunity.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-leaks-again-bloatware-is-easily-disabled-20111201/

Disabled but not uninstallable. Did this actually come from Google or did Verizon force them to? Very disappointing. How are future updates going to be handled straight from Google? Or is Verizon doing the updates? Hmmmm.

And everyone said I was overreacting.

Obviously not, those are Verizon specific apps and are useless to anyone but Verizon customers. I don't think this will cause any issues with updates as these apps are created separately by verizon and can be updated as needed on the fly via the market. It may not be absolutely pure google device, but it's about as close as one is going to get these days.

Almost as bad as all the people on XDA complaining and raising hell about the Verizon logo on the battery cover rather than the Google one...

Really guys?

Well here you go:

https://twitter.com/#!/jbqueru/status/148096885079556096

@AndroidPIT Built by Google with input from Samsung, final approval by Verizon. Supported in AOSP.

Verizon should have nothing to do with anything regarding updates for the Nexus line. Kind of disappointing.

After having mine for about 20 minutes, it popped up and said update available. I clicked install, walhalla, 4.0.2.

Once you're rooted, should be able to just delete the .apks for them. Once I actually get a chance to sit down and root the phone, I'll get to find out.

you can delete them once rooted, i did it last night, however they still show up as disabled in the aps menu, and it shows them as being on the SD card and not the internal space, lemme test something

edit: interesting, you cant see the apks when you connect it to your comp, i put the backups in sdcard/download, i can't seem then in win explorer but they are there in root explorer

It shows in System Updates, but says download failed. Retry Download button doesn't seem to do anything, originally thought it was because my battery was low. Was only at 50% when I left the store, and I spent some time DLing apps on Wildflower's wifi. By the time I got home, it was around 20%. Still grabbing all my crap again though I'm on my wifi now.

Had to turn off my Wireless-N though and flip back to BG to get it to connect . . . there's no N support?
