I got my Nexus today. Is there a good forum to read up on all the tweaks and tips for using this thing? Its a bit different than my Iphones.

And there is also a good amount of information at xda

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1336

There is a lot of overlap between the two communities. XDA is an older Windows Mobile developer-oriented community (they both are dev-focused in much the same ways), but the Android development community is still very strong there. I think the community was strongest there for a long time, as I never discovered the place when the original Droid was new and throughout it's life (and I found just about every developer/modding info site in time, there isn't much new out there for me in that regard, besides non-US/foreign language websites yet even some there too ).

There is a little difficulty in figuring out a few differences in the required steps for problem-solving, for the LTE model and GSM models share the same boards... save the dev-specific boards.

Got mine today. Had the absolute worst salesman experience ever, just because I didn't want to sign a contract.

1st, he said it was impossible to buy the phone without contract
2nd, I asked for the 5GB (10GB double data)
3rd, asked for 1000 message plan.
4th, refused to sell me insurance because I bought the phone retail.

When I got home,
I had a 2GB plan.
No text plan, and I had sent about 30-40 texts at 25 cents each!!!
And was on a 900 minute plan!

Called Verizon to bitch, got my 5GB/10GB plan, added 1000 min text, and went down to 450.

The assured me that I wouldn't be charged for the text messages. I was told insurance was definitely available, but bought a Squaretrade warranty instead.

What an asshole - I am going to complain my ass off and write a letter tomorrow.

just wanted to say I got pretty bad reception data wise in my gym with my tbolt. it was better with my rezound . I'd say its much better than either with the nexus. I get 4g in areas I could not before. I am posting this post from a spot in my gym right now that I never could before! so in my experience the radio isn't bad at all. the resound and nexus still work in the elevator and garage a little at my apt. tbolt had 0 reception.

I get awesome reception almost anywhere in my area, but can't get anything in my house.

It's not that bad since I use wireless, but if my net ever craps out, I was hoping to tether from my phone. My net goes down very rarely though so it's probably not a problem.

4AM and I am still tinkering with my phone.

Have blown through 3GB so far with my Nexus, 18 days in to my billing cycle. Thank goodness for unlimited data.

My Bionic worked better at my house (matched my cable broadband at 10mbps), but I still get 4G service where I feel I should and don't where, well, I shouldn't.

I will miss Motorola's amazing radio-building abilities. Without fail, if a prior phone of mine was a Motorola phone, it was built better, performed better, and had better reception, than competing manufacturers.

Sadly, Motorola has been mucking up (and/or Verizon), and the SGN is the first unlocked phone on Verizon since the OG Droid, or at least the first interesting phone. I enjoyed my Bionic while it lasted, but ICS blows Gingerbread out of the water, and a locked bootloader spoils all the fun (and prevents you from squeezing every last drop of performance from the beast within).

Apparantly syncing muysic isnt that easy. I have 547 songs in Windows Media Center and I synced them to my Nexus and they arent on there. It took 15 minutes too. Its not showing any space being used either. Google music doesnt see anything either. I tried again today and its synced in three seconds but nothing is there. Windows media player sees the Nexus as a Nexus and i created a playlist of all the songs as well.

Since the GSM version of the phone is a world phone, can I buy one for my wife as well and use it with Sprint? If so, then I'm wondering if I'll get 4g speeds or not?

i just went to my computer and dragged my mp3s onto the phone. it sees it just like a flash drive but in "media devices" or something there in windows 7. that seemed to work.

i've never had a motorola phone . i 'm actually pretty new to verizon, just signed up right before they got rid of the 1 year deals in april.

for me honestly ANY verizon phone is better than t-mobile which i had before. but yeah my first verizon phone was the thunderbolt and granted it had a lot of reasons for being so awful (it was the first LTE phone, etc) that it nearly soured me on HTC on the whole (had like almost all htc on t-mobile). tried the rezound which i think is a great phone, but with the nexus coming out more or less the same time it just isn't going to get a following in the enthusiast community (still doesnt have root, and no one seems to care).

i woudl love to actaully try a moto phone someday as i hear hardware/radio wise they are great, but they are always locked and they dont make non verizon phones unless you import and i plan to stay on vzw. so much potential , but too bad about their bootloader policies.

i've read the reason they lock though is because moto phones have a lot of enterprise business type support and you can't be a legitimate enterprise phone if you can get rooted easily so it cant entirely be verizon for the bootloader locking (galaxy / charge / fascinate were all rootable / easy to root)

Are they wma files, or anything other than mp3?

Google Music might be limited to mp3. I assume it is, and that is why I haven't even bothered with my Zune media collection. I'll probably put the 10 mp3s/month I can get onto the cloud though, might as well utilize the service in case it comes in handy.

Google Music supports mp3, aac, wma, FLAC, and ogg.

I'm seeing few bugs with this phone that just should not be on a phone that's sold on the mass market.

One, if you type too fast on the google search it crashes the search and takes you to home screen.

two, on the keyboard quick symbol (holding down the period key) the touch location is way off.

browser and app scrolling is choppy unless 2d hardware acceleration is on.

volume is way too f'king low.

Where is my option to set different notification chime for email, text, and voice mail?

plus.. i've done about 10 cycles of battery charge discharge, but it still sucks. 13hours on batt and 28% left.

Agreed. Stop living in the world of the iPhone where you need an app to help you sync things. This isn't preschool. Just go into Explorer and drag the files over. I don't think Android even cares which folder you put them in.
