Hmm. I'm using the GSM version. I used the nav on my Nexus S heavily. It's a bummer not to be able to use this on this phone.

You might have defective phone. GPS on my GSM is rock solid. It's fast and accurate and doesn't lose signal or lock while driving. I know what's like having bad or flaky GPS. My Vibrant displayed the symptoms you listed.

Just back from the Verizon store to pick up a new sim for my Gnex, this phone is a total beast, I love it so far!

Didn't you just buy a different phone just a few weeks ago? Tired of it already?
Or am I thinking about someone else?

I bought the extended battery today and although I haven't tested it much, I am impressed at how much more solid the phone feels. The added weight really makes the phone feel more "expensive" and higher quality in the hand. It honestly feels like a different phone.

Didn't bulk it up much, but there definitely is some more thickness.

Also, I am using the Liquidsmoothh ROM and WOW. It's just like the ROM's developer says, my phone is watery (you have to play with the settings to get it that way.) I am VERY nitpicky with even the slightest UI choppiness, and I have ZERO complaints about this ROM. It's that frikken smooth.

I haven't had an issue yet, but I think I finally found a perfect ROM for me. ROM details here.

newbie question ... since my phone came ICS (Verizon)
is it still worthwhile to get a custom ROM?

Android 5.0 already?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/17/android-jelly-bean-release-fall-2012-rumor_n_1285539.html

lol...guess I'm used to Linux where there are a few versions like 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, etc

But this is the Google approach to version numbers. Don't forget about Chrome.

Or iOS for that matter. They are already at 5.0 and average about the same time span between major releases like that, though Android tends to subset the point releases quite faster, often due to various "classes" of devices and specific forks in the point release scheme to help lock-down various hardware configurations.
In the end, it's actually a fairly "calm" release schedule.

ICS is the first OS I could run bone stock. It's beautiful and elegant as is. I'm even still on the default wallpaper!

That said, I used TiBu and Nova launcher to make functional things like my last phone. Also the (non Market, root) Wifi Tether app. Haven't flashed a new recovery or any full ROM yet, though. Maybe I'll try the new Bugless.

Cripes, FireFox is much worse with their version numbers. In the past 3 or 4 months, we've gone from 4.0 to 10.0.2. I think each version got one or two point releases before the next full number. Realistically, FireFox 10 should be called Firefox 5.5.

Heh, someone bought my Thunderbolt this morning. Thought it'd take longer, priced it a little aggressively though.

Yeah but Chrome was their inspiration.
They took that concept and ran with it. And pretty much, I've largely ignored Firefox.
I maintain chrome, Firefox, and Opera on my PC (and to some extent, IE as well, considering some websites I have to use require IE), but Chrome is my default and preferred for most things.

Installed franco's latest (18.2) and set the max to 1.65 GHz and it was off to the races. Dont know how stable it'll be or the long term effects so went back to 1200/350 but for the 30 minutes I had it at 1650 the phone was absolutely flying. Everything I did responded instantaneously. It also drained the hell out of my battery. I hear some phones have trouble with overclocking so proceed with caution if you decide to try it

The main reason of the lock screen is security, so that someone can't steal your phone and instantly have access to your entire life

I didn't see this response till now. I didn't think people actually passworded the lock screens in addition...

Did early smartphones even allow password locks? Can't recall that on my old Treo or HTC Titan.

Personally I turn the thing on 50 times a day and unlocking w/ password would be aggravating. Face unlock is ok, I suppose, but I'm usually just at home with the thing.

My battery is still horrible no matter what kernel. I was getting 3-4 hours on an extended battery... this is from streaming music, a few youtube videos, and facebook app..

is it a good idea to close programs to save memory/battery life?

is there an app that closes all background programs or something?
