AMD should be, at the very least, valued the same as NVIDIA -- since their technologies and TAM are identical. AMD has a HUGE edge in that it makes great x86 APUs for desktops/laptops/netbook and has a lot of room to expand there. This implies >$10/share price for AMD.

I'm going to load the boat on dips, gentlemen. As you were.

So long as the games we're discussing are Farmville and flash based card games I don't see a problem with this.

Damn, it seems that my Phenom II from 2009 which was supposedly running BF3 on max was actually inducing hypnosis on me using highly advanced technology to cover the fact that it was struggling to run Minesweeper. Advanced Micromechanical Destruction strikes again!

Stop the hate.

AMD is righting the ship. Competition is good, for all, especially us, the enduser.

That is what some people were saying when Bulldozer came out, and we know how that turned out. Lets wait for independent results from an unbiased source, not AMD slides.

And I am not anti AMD. I hope you are right. I am not really interested in their desktop line, because I would not buy an APU in a desktop, and the only reason I would buy AMD is for the graphics.

But I would love for Trinity to offer a great package that would be reasonable for mid level gaming in a laptop without the heat and cost of a discrete GPU. It would also be great to see a competitor to ultrabooks at a lower price with better graphics.

Note, performance/watt.

AMD seems to be dropping any CPU competition with Intel. In short, they gave up.
AMD is also essentially dead in the serverspace.

Rory also wrote this:
A lower cost base allows us to be more competitive today and to invest back into the business to fuel our "attack" strategies in- low power, emerging markets and the cloud.
We already see this in the APU. Llano was a quadcore, Trinity is a dualcore. But GPU is beefed up to fight the only place they can.

AMD is also trying to dabble in ARM. But they are just too late to that party.

AMD is the new VIA.

Wow... i always though C2Q == PII

I double piledriver will beat nehalem. The only reason bulldozer ever looked competitive vs nehalem is the 920s lousy stock clockspeed.

And I always thought that the 8xx series Phenom IIs had 2MB less L3 cache than the full fledged 9xx CPUs

No, Kentsfield is not better than Phenom II - any time, any place (except in extremelly rare cases).

Llano was a quadcore, Trinity is a dualcore.

I think you meant to say that Trinity is a dual-module. Not dual-core. AMD marketing will likely call it a quad-core. Much like BD is an octo-core.

Of course, we can debate modules versus cores endlessly on this forum.

I'll take AM3/Phenom II systems anytime over C2D, the integrated memory controller and other features makes all the difference compared to the old FSB platform, something that is not benchable.
