Someone tried making a custom bios using intel integrator toolkit so it can support higher memory voltage..... because it seems that setting memory voltage in the bios is locked or hidden....

Hi,

The Intel website is a mess - even if they wanted to update it I don't think they could.

However, I can confirm that the Corsair XMSII PC6400 12-12-12-5 works just fine in teh DP965LT. I hav ebuild 5 machines so far with this mobo and RAM, runing either 2Gb or 4GB with zero problems.

Well - one duff RAM stick actually, but that was the RAM itself, quite clearly.

Thopugh there is no way to see it, the 1.9V thing was addes some time ago - bios 1233 maybe, and in fact I had the Corsair running stable on 1.8V before that Bios fix.

So you should be fine.

Is it okay to mix ddr2 speeds? like 667mhz with 800mhz? dual channel with this motherboard?

If you dual channel why mix? If volts and timing are right they should run but at lower speed (667) I don't think in mixed config you will get dual channel. The board itself is very unforgiving on memory make sure you check compatability on intel site. 1.8 or 1.9 volts, at the moment no bois option for increasing volts although might see it later.

I am trying to find a utility to monitor fans and temps. The Intel one does not run in Vista. Tried the latest version of Speedfan (432 beta 17) but it only finds the hd0, core0 and core1 temps, but none of the mb or fan sensors. What device monitors these? Are there any other programs that work with this setup? Does anybody know of a UK supplier for the serial header cable?

Hi,

New to this forum as I saw this post about the Intel board which I have recently purchased. Unfortunately all is not well as I am getting endless BSODS with random error codes but the main ones I have had tell me that there is an error in the pagesys, which I believe is to do with dodgy memory modules.

I am trying to use GEIL DDRII PC6400C5 800MHz Value Ram which I thought would be compatible with the board, however it does not look like it. I think I will send this back and try Corsair XMS2-6400C5, what do you guys think?

Okay little update on this one, last night I did some more reading and surfing of the net and came across something interesting about GEIL and clocks, there was a suggestion of turning the memory from 800Mhz to 633Mhz. Guess what, that works and the system runs without any BSOD's or hiccups. So I contacted overclockers this morning and RMA'd the Geil and getting some Corsair ram instead.

Hi, I'm new too
plenty of info over here, but nobody seems to have encountered my problem with the 965LT
I just set up this board with the E6600, a Matrox parhelia and the Crucial 667 ram as tested by Intel

It's working perfectly with 2 gig of ram,
BUT
as soon as i try to work with 4 gig, the machine get's slow... runs on full cpu both cores (system process) and eventually freezes while doing nothing...

tested ram with memtest > OK

any clue anybody ?

xp32

I know several pc s working fine with 4 gigs
xp can only address 3,5 gig
but this helps a lot if you handle 400 mb multilayered .psd's on a daily basis

If you are using 4gb of ram you may want to edit your boot.ini file and add the /3GB switch as this may help.

Me, well I am using 4gb but on windows x64.

a few drivers don't like the /3gb switch as they can't use memory above 3gb.

So if you realy use the 3gb switch, add /USERVA=xxxx after it.
Start with a xxxx value of 2800, it will let 200mb free for drivers.

Well just got the corsair ram today and installed it, machine is now running 'A' okay with no blue screens or instablility. So I think it was the GEIL ram not compatible with this board.

For some of you that make this board works / stable with 1.8V memory

Can you try go to BIOS and go directly Exit Saving Changes? say YES
Does the board gives you 3 beeps?

Also, during the Boot up process (bios) hit reset button, does the board gives you 3 beeps too?

I'm using Antec 550EPS12V TP2.0 (also ATX12V compatible) with kingston
KVR800D2N5K2/2G.

And having problem with 3 beeps if I do two things above.
Also, if I hit restart on windows, the computer goes to shutdown and boot up again

Thanks for anyone willing to try it.

Hi Chaps,

i was wondering if someone maybe could help regarding INTELS UTILITIES?
Desktopboard DP965LT

i cant seem to get CPU fan speed working...
i have unistalled IDU, tried reinstalling the smbus, installing IDU again and still
no joy...infact tried all combinations still no luck?

oh, while system is in posting mode, fan spins up then down again before OS loads...dont know if this might be cause of problem.
as i know the Fan/heatsink i use has its own temp fan adjusting automatically.
Fan i use is Zalman cpn9500at...

i have tried following intels site support with no joy hence im here.

if anyone perhaps has had same or simliar problems and solved it, plz would you kindly pass on the method on resolving this problem.

can anyone help regarding this nightmare...

many thanks in advance for your time and effort, would be much appreciated.
cheers...

My solution was to get a zalman with a manual fan adjustment. I had the intel stock heatsink with 4 pins. It would sping at 900 rpm idle. This kept the system quiet and the cpu stayed cool for a while. But after gaming the cpu temps would climb but the fan just stayed at 900rpm. BIOS updates never fixed it. Now I just keep the zalman set at 2400rpm which is still fairly quiet and the cpu stays cool under load.

@everyone:
"Intel DP965LTCK revision D41694-207 or newer with BIOS 1612 or newer supports quad-core CPU's."

AA# for Intel® Desktop boards that now support Intel® Core 2 Quad processor

DP965LT (Lemont) -207 or later
DQ965GF (Guardfish) -401 or later
DG965WH (Westchester) -305 or later
DG965OT (Stoughton) -204 or later

I just got a -206 DP965LT about two weeks ago.

@wotsZapple:
I got IDU working. Go into options and hit fan redetect. I rebooted a few times, but I got it to work. Dodgy software.

Hi

I'm having issues with DG965OT board and not able to narrow down what is causing it. Any help would appreciated.

Initially I had 1GB stick in Dimm 0 of Memory module B. System booted fine but was getting Intel Manageability error and was not able to update bios.

So as per previous post, (ICH8 requires memory in Dimm 0 of Memory module A) as I moved the stick to Module A.

But when I do that and start the system, fans go on for about 3 secs and it turns off and this goes on in a loop.

So I'm not sure if its the board/memory/powersupply.

I have Antec Fusion Case with 430W powe supply and Centon Memory (1.8v)

Hi All,

I tot of getin this mobo 4 mi upgrade, is it really that difficult to get a competible RAM?
I went thru Crucial's web and find that the listed Ballistix RAM @ PC6400 2.2V 4-4-4-12 DDR2 is 100% ok.
Is this true?

Check this link: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=DP965LT

After reading this thread, I kind of skeptical... strictly only 1.8 or 1.9V for this mobo??

Do not trust that Crucial page. Play it safe and get only CAS 5 1.8V RAM. If you want faster RAM buy a 975X mobo instead.
