I've got it pre-ordered and I will be running one of the top clans online. I look forward to seeing you all online, where my friend harbinger says this is the best FPS made. Lucky bastard got it early.

so many lifers are changing their names it seems. Gets so confusing when I see someone post, see their name but then see they are a lifer... and don't recognize them at all. That shit throws me off.

K2 is almost here! Can't wait! But damn Friday release.
Better actually be at Gamestop here in the East on the release date. Better not be a damn ship date like most games have on Tuesday (where only the big titles actually have Tuesday as a release date and not ship date).

No worries, it's street dated. most places have the game already, just have to wait 'til friday.

Well if any of you guys are serious players and want to get in on this, I have created a site that will lead to the creation of a top flight KZ2 clan. I have already been recruiting and have several of the top CoD4 players on the roster. We will not tolerate childish behavior from anyone and we expect you to be a team player. Send me a PM if you are interested in playing KZ2 at a very highly competitive level with my squad. If you just play a lot and want someone to add to your friends list then hit me up as well.

I got my copy of the final retail yesterday. Unfortunately I was working on some other things and didnt get to spend hours with the game, but I didnt manage to check out some of it. It's worth mentioning that I did not download the demo and play it--I just have the beta disk (SP and MP) I received in December.

I fully expected to see some kind of installation with the final retail and unless it's doing something in the background that I didnt noitce--its not there. I'll check the gamedata file size and see how big it is but nothing was apparent and I didnt see anything pertaining to an install when I inspected the options menu.

In the actual SP game I didnt notice any changes in the graphical fidelity between the two, but really does there need to be? The game has been ploished, technically speaking, for months. It looks great and runs well.

I did notice that there are a few more additions to the environments like a new person standing here, groups of people repositioned for better presentation, some new dialog from NPCs and there are now new visual prompts during the introduction. For instance there are now RPGs streaking through the sky just pounding the ground--this might have been in the demo, but it wasnt in the beta. There is no denying that the game looks really good graphically speaking. I'm still not a huge fan of the art direction in the overall game--I personally would like some more variety throughout the entire experience.

Oh and during the dropship sequence in the very beginning of the game there is still a guy sitting next to you wearing a baseball hat that never moves along with everyone elses hair. This is despite the fact that you're traveling at a very high velocity in what is basically an open-topped space jeep dropping from hundreds (thousands?) of feet up in the air. Its definitely not a huge deal and means nothing in the overall game, but I still find it amusing to see that in a game that is as detailed as this one.

They appeared to have tweaked the controls a bit since the beta. There now appears to be a little more of a deadzone in the middle. What I mean is that if I slightly press the look-stick (lets say 2mm), the retical barely moves. when I say barely, I mean that it's a lot less than any other shooter that's out there. I did boost up the sensitivity on both th eY and X axis and this helped, bot only to a certain degree. I dont know how to explain it but it just felt a little sluggish. But this is also similar in my experience in the SP beta where it took me about 30 mins - 1 hour to get acclimated to the controls. I expect this to be no different.

I attempted to connect to the MP authentication servers and it errored out--MP is not up yet.

*Minor spoiler begins*

About 1/4 of the way through the game the environments changes pretty dramatically to a desert. I found this particular section of the game breathtaking. The dust being kicked up and swirling about, tattered fragments of cloth flapping in the wind, the whistling of the dry winds blowing into your face. Everything in Killzone, every underlying system in place, comes together to create this amazing moment for you. The subtle beauty slowly builds into this "wow" moment. All this in a rock solid frame rate.

*Minor spoiler ends*

So how are people finding it compared to the cgi video Sony ran a few years back? A lot worse or nearly as good or about the same? Just wondering what you guys thought.

So did Sony make the game as good visually as that demo? Or are they full of BS?!!!!

It's extremely close, and hell in some ways a little more polished that just present a better visual experience.
Graphical fidelity wise, it's about the same. A TAD worse, but this is real-time graphics compared to a CGI rendering. But when I say a tad worse, I mean just a tad. It was a tough rendering to live up to, and Sony put their money where their mouth was, quite literally. They pumped so much money into Guerrilla Games for development I think it was a record for production development of ANYTHING by the Dutch. That might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was close to $25 million. And Sony and Guerrilla worked together to make some new development tools for future developers in the process.

Basically, the visuals are amazing, and in no way truly inferior to that infamous target rendering. Sure a little less but nothing that really is obvious, and quite honestly even a little better in some areas.

The lighting in this game is brilliant. Sheer brilliance, so much dynamic lighting - even the lights from the eyes of the Helghast masks are dynamic lighting.

In my humble opinion, the final product very much lives up to that target rendering. It might look a little different by looking at screenshots and videos of gameplay, but when playing it, that experience is all captured wonderfully. The animations of most actions almost cause a stoppage of breathing at first sight. Rifle butting someone is awesome, if only to watch the first-person camera and animation of the act.

I might have it tomorrow and play a little in the afternoon. Though my night will be busy with a formal event and then drinking. Depending on whether I need to do certain things tomorrow afternoon, I might not even pick it up till Saturday afternoon. I'll make the call tomorrow morning.

Already received shipping notification from Amazon--my copy should be waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow. Not sure if I'll want to dive right into MP tomorrow, but I'll definitely be up for playing with some ATCG folks at some point.

I'm guessing the permanent solution will be any game with bots will not be a ranked match. But if that's the case then do they currently have it so all online matches provide experience, aka ranked servers?

So can anybody comment on the input lag? I looked at the playstation forums, but it's just a bunch of idiots complaing about the heavy controls (of which I don't give a shit about).

Haven't tried the demo yet but my gut is telling me to pick this up used. Maybe it's time to start up my Gamefly account again.

KZ2 Devs list of things to do in the game.

Guerrilla Games Developers? Must-Do List For Players of
?Killzone 2?
(PlayStation Fantasy Garden Simulator, February 2009)

1. On the mine-train in Tharsis Refinery, find the hidden Boltgun and nail Helghast soldiers to the tunnel walls. Its rewarding in more ways than one.

2. After playing online, go to www.killzone.com to view the Battle Replay of your game to see how you can improve your performance. Or you can use it to spy on the tactics deployed by a rival clan.

3. Rank up to Sergeant and create a Clan in-game or on www.killzone.com to take part in massive tournaments of up to 256 clans, or challenge rival clans for ?valor?, the online currency of the game.

4. Keep an eye out for the [GG] Clan when you are online and see if you can take out a developer or two.

5. In the slums of Salamun District wait till the Helghast rappel from the dropship before exploding the yellow barrels. It will take them out in one fiery blast and often enough their burning corpses will swing from the rafters above. Killzone 2 is all about the burning corpses.

6. Upload your single player stats to www.killzone.com to compare them with your friends for bragging rights as well as catch up on the latest news, content and gossip on the forums.

7. In Killzone 2 multiplayer for search-and-destroy and capture-and-hold missions: select the tactician badge with the speed boost secondary ability to take one for the team. Rush the objective and pop a spawn point making it much easier for your team to gain the upper hand.

8. When playing online search-and-retrieve missions: Let your enemies do your work for you! As the saboteur, Ambush the delivery location with C4, don a disguise, and wait for your enemy propaganda carrier to come by. Once he blows up, you only need to carry the propaganda speaker a few short steps to victory!

9. In multiplayer: Look at what weapons your fallen adversaries are carrying! By picking up their weapons you can end up with some deadly combinations of abilities and weapons, such as the heavy armor of an assault trooper with the LMG of a rifleman; or a cloaked scout wielding a shotgun (Devastating at close quarters!)

10. When playing multiplayer, press the PS button and bring up the XMB. You can then listen to custom music from your PS3 to go with your killing sprees. Nothing says ?Kill the ISA scum? like the super swinging sounds of Burt Bacharach.

11. In Maelstra barrens, rather than wasting valuable ammunition on the traitorous Helghast, step on them with your Exo-skeleton instead. Much more satisfying and you might even get a trophy for it.

12. In multiplayer try to place your gun turrets and sentry bots near spawn markers to offer defense for spawning re-enforcements. Also try to place sentry bots or turrets near your own ammo crates. In short, think carefully about where you place support items and try to place them next to other support items.

13. Use the shotgun close range on enemy heads to blow them apart like ripe fruit. Also makes a very satisfying squishy noise.

14. To see what the AI is capable of, why not add some bots to your multiplayer games. They will perform most of the abilities human players can and not complain if you team-kill or tea-bag them.

Heh at #14 after they just announced they were turning off bots in multiplayer games.

Hmmm, didn't know they had killzone.com with stats and stuff. That might tip the scales for me, even though I don't play online all too much.

OK, just started playing (literally have only been in for about 10 minutes):
- The opening cutscene is jaw-droppingly awesome.
- People that nitpicked about the input lag will still have that issue as far as I can tell. I haven't done extensive testing because, again, I've only played for literally ten minutes, but when I push X to jump, it doesn't immediately jump (<~.25 second response). It's the same "lag" I saw in the demo (which didn't really prevent me from enjoying it). Other players can feel free to disagree, but when I bring up the XMB, it responds instantly to my button presses, when I am in the game, it responds slightly less than instantly. I still have the Euro demo installed so I don't know if that matters (I doubt it) but so far this is what I'm seeing. I'm not convinced this is necessarily exclusive the Killzone 2, because I don't really pay that much attention to these things, but I'll provide more feedback once I play more (I haven't even started shooting anything yet, just walking around in the ISA base).
