Why would a company waste money developing a kick-ass game that only 50% (and I'm being very generous there) of the console owners could even play? They won't. You won't see any Call of Duty's, no GTA's, nothing of that caliber. Not even close. They might have Kinect "support", but it will be terrible and no one will use it.
Let me give you a quick impression of Kinect that I was going to write but never got around. It's going to suck and it will be fun. When it will suck and when it will be fun will depend completely on the developers and the games they generate just like *gasp* any other system.
Think back to when the Wii launched and how much crap was put out there as developers tried to make heads or tails of how to use the Wii-mote and nunchuck. We're going to see the same thing with Kinect as there will probably be a lot crappy games intermixed with some good games.
So yeah, Child of Eden apparently sucked according to one Destructoid previewer but another Destructoid previewer found Sonic Free Riders to be enjoyable. There will likely be a slow progression of games getting better and new game types getting introduced as developers get more familiar with Kinect and experiment more with it.
MS knows how bad it is, that they're giving out in oprah. I can't wait to see 40 year old woman looking pathetic swinging invisible balls.

If that's the criteria, then I guess Nintendo knew how bad things were with the Wii.
I'm not saying Kinect will sell like the Wii but MS is essentially copying Nintendo's marketing strategy here by targeting the casual audience via Moms.
i predict kinect will be flying off the shelves.
1. larger use base. more people having xbox's (over ps3) means more sales potential
2. more money spent on advertising. $500M, plus the channels they're using (oprah namely)
3. it's "new". motion control with a wand has been done already. this is new and different
whether it can sustain high levels of sales will depend on reviews and future games.
gotta say, i've never once seen a kinect commercial yet.

1. The user base isn't that much larger. 41 million vs 38 million, which isn't too bad considering PS3 came out a year later. So if you take market growth into consideration...
3. "New" isn't necessarily better. A lot of people picked up Move since it was like a Wii, only in HD and more "mature" (heh).

how many people are using their ps3's as a blu-ray player only?
that's exactly my point. it's been done on the Wii, and that newness has worn off.
i'm willing to bet most Wii's aren't used reguarly, if at all. i know mine and my friends aren't.
it's seen as gimmicky and has given motion controlling a bad name.
and this could be detrimental to Move sales if most people think of it as just Wii HD.
Derp
herp
Move sales are doing just fine.
If anything, Kinect is seen as WAY more gimmicky than either the Wii or Move, both of which are way more reliable forms of motion control technology.
Also, you missed my point. I agreed that Move is less "new" than Kinect, but that point was that "new" isn't necessarily a good thing.
The biggest factor in helping Kinect win over Move, besides marketing, will be the fact that most moms who buy their kids games most likely got their kid an Xbox. If someone has a PS3, they most likely know a bit more about gaming, so I don't predict as many Mom's picking up Move thinking about their large midsection.
And Sony realizes this, which is why they are marketing move in a totally different way than Kinect. You know, actually towards gamers, instead of just..moms.
I think he just worded that poorly. More often than not, a non-game savvy parent will by a 360 hands down because of price and family appeal, whereas most PS3 owners are gamers. Most.

so release date is this week.
why haven't there been any reviews on the system? this can't be a good sign if MS has an embargo on reviews.
MS specifically said they don't need good reviews to sell the system.
