If they don't succeed this year I think blame should go to the gm (mitch kupchak or something??) for not bringing in any 3pt specialists. Phil Jacksons teams have always had that, and it was obvious that relying on fischer, fox, shaw, george, and horry for consistent points from there for another year is risky at best, but is critical to have someone to spread the floor. That said, i haven't seen any lakers games this year.

If they have the heart of a Champion they will. It's one thing to win when everything is going your way but a true Champions finds a way to win when their backs are up against the wall. Jordans Bulls did it, Magics Lakers did it, Birds Celtics did it and Isiahs Pistons did it. To earn a spot with those teams as one of the truly great teams the Lakers must do it.

says who? right now the 8th seed has only 14 wins. the lakers are a mere 4.5 games in back of the #8 seed. historicaly the #8 seed will have no more than 41 or 42 wins so if they can go 32-22 they would finish with a 42-40 record. and we all know that the lakers, once they hit their stride, can win basically whenever they want to. they almost got 70 wins 3 yrs ago and just last year they started 20-6.

I think you have your conferences mixed up. the #8th seed in the western conference last year was at least 6 games over .500. in the east they could get in with a 42-40 record. but then again if they were in the east we wouldnt even be having this discussion.

barring a huge injury to #8 or #34, they'll make the playoffs. Hopefully they'll come back in 2003 and see it as a challenge, break off a 20 game win streak and finish strong. Shaq needs to step up and motivate (not criticize) his worn out teammates and Phil needs to present this as a challenge to them. If they do that, they'll be ok.
