$16M over 4 years is $4M a year. Is that really going to make a big difference on who else they could sign?

Didn't Duncan do the same thing?

4m and Dallas has some tradable contracts. Including Dampier's contract for 10m next season which isn't guaranteed. A team could trade for Dampier and cut him and he is off the books.

Lebron needs an hour to throw a tribute to his beloved city before announcing that he will join Bosh in Chicago

I believe 20m is max but if you resign with the same team they can offer more. Dirk could of signed for 24m with Dallas

Yep, that's the Bird rule. You can do it with a sign and trade as well.

Glad to see Dirk stay where he is. Classy dude like Duncan, who is probably the most underrated hall of famer of all time.

I thought $16M was the max contract?
How does Amare get $100M over 5 for $20M per year? Is that back loaded or does he get more for being in the league longer?

i think it also depends on what the players were making the previous year. i think amare was making 17something M. its pretty complicated...i still don't know how most of this stuff works.

Bosh and Wade reportedly will sign with Miami:

Ah damn. I'm going to wager that Lebron stays in Cleveland. That means Chicago missed out on the run of tier 1 free agents. David Lee would be a good fit if they can get him. Great rebounder and a big guy that can shoot. He'd be a good bailout guy for Rose to dump to. Ray Allen would also be a nice grab if they can afford him to at least spread the floor a little more and give them an actual outside threat.

not looking good for us bulls fans. they have a great core, but they do need to add someone. i don't think I really want boozer, and I don't want to overpay lee. Not sure what the best option would be now. I still have a slight hope that Lebron will come, but the hell with him, I think hes just going to stay in cleveland

Chicago deperately needs a post player who isn't a liability on offense. Noah is an opportunity scorer, but not a guy you want trying to post up or lining up for a 15 footer. They also need a 3 point threat. They lost Gordon and Salmons both who could step up and knock down a three. Rose isn't a very good range shooter, Deng is worse, and Hienrick is just too damn streaky.

They need a big guy to hustle for boards and give a post game, and a shooter to spread the floor more. Pickins are getting slim for the big guys. Hopefully they don't get desperate and overpay...

So no big 3 in Miami? I thought they had cap space to sign all 3?

If not, I think there's actually going to be a good chance he's going to NY. Why else would he be setting up this big conference to reveal his pick, telling the world "Oh by the way, I'm just staying in Cleveland."
That's pretty lame. And to further agonize the Cavs fans by making them wait this long with such suspense.

I think it's down to the Bulls and Knicks.

There's no doubt in my mind he's going to the Knicks. He fits much better with their players than the Bulls. Rose needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and they have no shooters.

He's not having a 1 hour conference to announce he's staying in Cleveland.

If it's just Bosh and Wade, I really don't see these 2 being a dynamic duo.
Bosh is/was never a dominating player and is only a slight upgrade over O'Neal.

Depending on who else they acquire, they'll increase their win total by 5-7 games over last year.
And depending on what happens to other teams over this summer, could be another quick playoff exit. I see the Magic and Celts (if they get their big 3 back) as better than Wade/Bosh + Co.

Why does a player need a prime time press conference to announce this? I'm so glad I don't watch any pro basketball. At this point, I just want him to stay in Cleveland to stick it to the smug NYers that think it's their right that he play there.

Or at least, that's what SportsCenter has been telling me to believe for the past week. I honestly don't give a shit. Just make a decision and move on.

I do hope Ilya Kovalchuk ends up rotting in Russia for 10M a year, though.

2/3 for Miami so far. 3 for 3 tomorrow night! (wishful thinking I know, but hey it can happen now!)

Do you think Wade, Lebron and Bosh are all going to take less than a max contract, because that's what would need to happen for all of them to go to Miami. I also think

Lebron's ego is so big that, no matter how much chips they may win in Miami, Wade would always have one more than him.... just can't see it happening...
